      Simple the GOAT.

    • @FallaciousRamblings
      @FallaciousRamblings Год назад +5

      He still is and maybe Alcaraz will surpass him. But in terms of pure raw talent, beauty of the game, attacking tennis, he will always be the GOAT. Djokovic and Nadal might win more titles, they will be considered better than him for the common crowd that know little about tennis (or maybe because they have good reasons to prefer Djoko or Nadal, like bein Spanish or from the Balkans), but although they were arguably more dominant in their prime, they were younger when Roger set new standards. They had to uphold them, they had a target to reach. Somehow, Federer needed those 2 arch rivals to get to the number of titles he reached, but I believe Djoko and Rafa needed Roger to get to the fantastic level of tennis they were able to achieve. They achieved it true dedication and hard work. Roger too, obviously, but less so imho. Before Rafa and Djoko rose to prominence, he already had an incredible level of play. Agassi and Sampras were among the greatest back then, but still at the level of the old ones: Connor, Enroe, Borg, Lendl: tremendous level but not godlike, like this fabulous triumvirat managed to reach. And I won't even speak of the global slowing down of surfaces (for marketing/ads reasons mainly) that greatly favored Djoko and Nadal style of play.

      @@FallaciousRamblings This isn't even really a theory. Djokovic and Nadal have both talked at length in interviews about the huge impact that Roger had on their game. Murray too (let's be honest, the big 4 were the big 4 for a reason. Murray fell off much quicker, but the level of tennis he played was well above the rest of the crowd, even if he was more demi-god level, like Connor, McEnroe, Borg etc.). Federer elevated the sport to GOAT level through sheer mastery of tennis. I really wish we could see 04-08 Federer play 11-15 Djokovic or Nadal from 08-13 play each other all day.
      Who knows, maybe the big 3 just occupy 'GOAT Level" as a separate category, and there will be other GOAT Level players in the future (Alcaraz is really showing it). The best among them will come down to the videos and I feel like the future will be kinder to Federer if he's seen among a wide array of players at the same level. Hopefully someone trains a video AI model to restore old tennis matches. More HD footage would be awesome

      It doesn’t matter. The word “better” simply doesn’t matter when you’re talking about 104 vs. 103 career titles. Both players deserve praise for entering tournaments and refusing to lose a match for 5-7 outings against other pros.
      It’s just hot air otherwise.
