Look up pinch harmonic on youtube thats what they are but rocksmith doesn't provide an in game lesson. Give it time, they are difficult to get well.

David Jenkins There already has been a Rock Band with "real" instruments (MIDI controllers, guitar was limited of course by using buttons as "strings", but the drums and piano were actual electronic ones). I'm not talking about the "guitar" with the five coloured buttons either.
David Jenkins um... you do realize this is more of a learning tool than an actual game right? you know, for the real musicians who actually want to learn the real instruments instead of just pushing colored buttons?
ThatDuck There was also a Fender Squier Strat that was specifically made for the Pro Guitar and Pro Bass for “Rock Band 3”, which was also a real guitar and used real strings and had what appeared to be switch-like bits by the frets for the game to read where strings were being fretted by the player’s fingers (or something along those lines). It was also possible to use the guitar with an amp outside of the game. Here in the UK when that first came out in March 2011 it sold out within a fortnight and stores were soon reporting that this guitar was no longer available.
Unlike Rocksmith and its 2014 follow-up, even the Pro Mode of Rock Band 3 does not support bends; and harmonics (be they pinch, natural or otherwise) are just fretted and played normally, whereas doing those for real would not be so straightforward.
Also, in the Pro Guitar and Pro Bass modes of RB3 you absolutely must play notes exactly as shown on-screen without fail in order to avoid losing your note streak, whereas both Rocksmith games read by the pitch of your notes, meaning that if you fret and play notes that equate in pitch to what is on the screen then it will usually let you off and count them as hit correctly.
