The evening of January 18, 2025, marked the onset of a brutal deep freeze across Ontario, with temperatures plunging well below -20°C, accompanied by biting winds. As the polar vortex descended, Ontario was gripped by a chilling Arctic air mass, making it one of the coldest nights of the winter season. The deep freeze brought dangerous conditions, with wind chills creating an icy feel of -30°C in some areas. Extreme cold warnings were in effect as life-threatening lows settled across the province. Residents braved the bitter cold, as the polar vortex locked the region into a frozen stillness.
