"you will own nothing and be happy" only works on the basis of "you will learn nothing and be stupid"

Used to work as a faculty member in a university in West Virginia, 55,000 annual salary with no dental insurance. It was a joke. Location of the university is in the middle of nowhere. The closest city is two hours away. No airport. No theatre. No museum. No sports stadium. It is like a Black Mirror stage town. Unreal.

Dawg your 70 miles from Pittsburgh, and 150 miles from Baltimore, DC, and Cleveland. Your sense of geography and scale of cultural institutions is ridiculous.
There is a theatre, and airport. And even if they are small, I would tell you to go to Pittsburgh, but apparently you can't bear an 1 hour and 30 minute drive.
Also do you think Morgantown is more or less Isolated than Blacksburg or State college or Charlottesville?
Also the university does provide dental coverage to employees.

@@NA.NA.. Dawg, you are talking about somewhere like Morgantown which is a "developed" place in WV. That university is in the middle of WV, 150 miles down south from Pitt, and 240 miles to DC. Who is ridiculous?

@@andrewbrand200 i understand now, forgive me i thought you were lying when you said you worked for the university. You weren't lying, you're missing a chromosome and have no sense of direction and never looked at a map.
You say morgantown is in the middle of WV. It is exactly 8 miles south of the mason dixon line bro. what towns are between Morgantown and PA?
You sat its 150 miles form pittsburgh, its 76 taking i79, and 205 miles take i68 to Washington DC.
Why lie when Google maps is free? Also the question still stands from my original comment, is Morgantown less Isolated then Blacksburg or Charlottesville or state college

Happened two days ago in Virginia.
Virginia Betrayed Gold Star & Disabled Veteran Families!
Happy Memorial Day! Unless you are a Gold Star widow, spouse, or child of a disabled veteran in Virginia!
It is military appreciation month, just before Memorial day, and what better way to thank the families of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice than stripping educational benefits to their families, with NO NOTICE that have been in place for more than 25 years!
Background: there has been a back and forth with the house/senate and the governor about the budget for 2024-2026. The first iteration contained language cutting the VMSDEP program. We pushed back with a petition containing 4000 signatures in 10 days and the governor offered amendments to strike the changes and push them to a study. House/senate then scrapped the version of the budget bill the governor bounced back to them so they "rewrote it". The "rewrite" which came out Saturday May 11, and was vote on Monday May 13, is worse than the language in the previous budget bill, and long story short, since the governor signed it, the program is going to be shredded to pieces.
    Some of the changes include:
-Control of VMSDEP (Virginia Military Survivor Dependent and Education Program) moves almost entirely to the State Council for Higher Education. In effect, the fox is allowed to guard the hen house. SCHEV has been crying poor as the program is a waiver program and "just too many people are using it", well, that's what happens when you spend 20 years at war. This also, with the exception of "eligibility verification" strips the program from the Department of Veterans Services. This is UNPRECEDENTED and would be the same as moving the GI bill to the Department of Education.
-VMSDEP will become a "last payer"- so you fill out FAFSA and get an SAI/EFC- typically its way higher than you can actually afford but its what the government says you can afford and you are required to pay that first before this program applies. Additionally, Pell grants, state grants, scholarships, etc will be applied in full first.
-It will no longer cover Grad school. It will no longer cover second degrees (effectively eliminating the usage for spouses)
-FAFSA must be on file (this is an entitlement, NOT a needs based program).
-Unless you have committed to a school for the summer or fall of 2024 BY MAY 15, 2024 (AGAIN ZERO NOTICE PERIOD) there is NO grandfathering option for families who have made the decision to move to or stay in Virginia due to qualifying for this program.

It's good for colleges to teach what is truly important - how to get jobs. So many other things are taught nowadays that have no real benefit.

I’m a bit confused as to why this professor is applauding the Biden student loan forgiveness that hasn’t happened and the admin is going about it in the most opaque convoluted way possible.
Love BTnews but man, this guest missed the mark on a lot of details. Agree with the overall points though
