I put a pvc pipe on my lifetime for my transducer. I cut a slit in the pipe because it was just a little too big to fit the scupper. That made it easy to run the cable and it could bend to squeeze into the scupper. I measured the length properly and drilled a hole to put a bolt to hold the transducer on. I cut a groove in an elbow and used the blue pvc glue to glue it on. The transducer doesn't budge, and is out of the way, so if I row over a log it won't get damaged. It's a lowrance hook4x that I had leftover from another project. I also removed one of the flushmount rod holders and drilled a hole on the edge. I ran the transducer cable down through the hull and put the rod holder back on and sealed it with goop. The unit is mounted on the access hatch between my legs, which works because it's a paddle kayak.
My kayak can only have the transducer “backwards” due to the hole in the hull being a certain shape. called garmin about it they said they cannot find a way for orientation flip so my graph is not reading backwards. I have a 94sv. Any help??? Also a 2018 predator PDL.
Shoot me an email if needed. nick@navarrekayakfishing.com It’s in the side scan menu. You can flip the display. Should be easy to find. But you have to open the side scan page by itself (no combo screen) then go to the menu and look around.
God bless duct tape and God bless you... worked like a charm. And just for grin and giggles I did watch past the the transducer install... How are duct tape and The Force alike? They both have a dark side and light side and they hold the universe together!
I see you’re using a Garmin fish finder in this video. Will this method work with a Lowrance fish reveal 7 fish finder? If I mount the transducer backwards will I be able to go into my fish finder settings and change the orientation of the transducer?
I was wondering which FF you would recommend for a 2018 OT Predator? I was thinking in terms of something mid range or a bit above for a robust all round FF for off shore sea use only? I would like to get the mounting solution from you once I finally figure out which FF to spring for. great vid and very useful gear, thanks for putting it up.
Mounting a large transducer on the 2018 can be a challenge. I would more then likely keep it simple and go with just down scan. A 7CV would do the job but a 73CV would have a better mapping system.
@@NavarreKayakFishing Understood. Have you ever made a pervious video of a 2018 FF install? I am assuming my hull is 2018 as it's pre 2020 design, I have the main hatch with slider lock. I dont know how to tell YOM, but there is a serial number printed on the side. Appreciate the reply, I am following your channel closely as its brilliant. thanks.
If you have the metal rudder and locking front hatch it’s the old style scupper location. I may have done bad install but it would have been on a different channel that was deleted.
Can you please tell me how to change the settings for the direction of the transducer that you mention in the video. I have a Garmin striker plus 7sv. I am installing it in an old town autopilot 136.
Randy, once you’re on the side screen page go to the menu then you will see the chart settings. I believe it’s under “orientation.” If you can’t find it let me know and I will make a video about it.
Bill R it would be nice if it came with a battery bag in the front like that Predator series. Honestly, I don’t use the battery bag anyways. I just toss the Nocqua battery on top of my life jacket. It doesn’t slide anywhere.
Was the position you had it in as close to the hull as you could mount it without loosing your side imaging? I was hoping I'd be able to put the transducer recessed against the hull.
You can mount it completely flush with the bottom of the kayak and the side scan will still work. Here’s a video flush mounting a side scan transducer - ruclips.net/video/m3Df9tHdolY/видео.html
@@NavarreKayakFishing awesome thank you! That's what I was planning on. I mounted it today but was stressed about the side imaging. I put it on the forum and hadn't got a response yet, I was stressing it a bit because I loved the setup on my topwater that I sold and I really didn't want to be out on the water all day without imaging. Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.
Hey nick. I'm rigging up a predator and I'm thinking about relocating the battery bag in the foward hatch to the undersea hatch. Then just drill thru the hatch and route wires under the seat. I figure if I don't like it I can always replace the hatch. What do you think?
Frank, I like the quick and easy access the front hatch provides. If you forget to plug the battery in and launch you can quickly lean forward and fix the issue. If it’s under the seat it won’t be so easy. It’s also easier to charge the battery when you arrive home. Flipping the seat over usually results in random items falling out of the seat storage. Those are just random thoughts.
Hey Nick! How did you get the wires from the front hatch down through the side wall where they came out the hole that you drilled to be connected to the fish finder?
Art, I used a skinny PVC pipe and a piece of tape to run the wires down the right side of the kayak. Any small pipe you can fit into the front hatch will work.
Hi Nick. Thanks for posting this video. It’s brilliant and now that I’ve seen the invention as this is 12 months after you created / uploaded this video, I would like to get it so do you post to Australia? Also and more importantly, will that transducer fit in the limited size housing on the bottom of the 2019 Predator PDL please mate?
I’m not positive if that transducer will fit in the opening on a 2019. It depends on whether the kayak was a click and seal lid or a bungee lid on the front. (They changed the style mid 2019) We do ship to Australia regularly.
Hey man, thanks for sharing. I have a Hobie Adventure Island. What would be a good way to mount a transducer on that? Also thinking about putting the finder behind the pedals to stay out of the way on my sides. Curious if you have tried this type of setup? I can see the advantage to having it at your side if you want to change settings a lot, but I figured I would just leave it on auto depth and pedal anyway. I hope the mirage drive doesnt cause interference with the transducer either.
Navarre Kayak Fishing | Florida Kayak Fishing So the universal mount that old town provides on the kayak from the factory will allow the side scan imaging to function? Curious why you wouldn’t just use the universal mounting bracket vs the pvc pipe method you are using here. I have a Lowrance totalscan transducer and that was one of my concerns b4 I purchase the predator.
Joe Shipley I apologize, Joe. I misunderstood your question. I wasn’t a fan of how the transducer mounted to the universal plate. It sat to low (wasn’t flush with the bottom of the kayak) and I was worried about it hitting the ground when moving the kayak around. The PVC method is way less work and provides the easiest install. I have been installing it this way since November of 2016 on the PDL’s and haven’t had a single issue.
This came into my "suggested" just in time! I am getting a garmin this week and the only reason I haven't bought one already is because I dread having to install it... but this is a good explanation. I appreciate that. Solid video. Will be watching more. Gave you a follow.

My kayak doesn’t have the Lowrance ready plate so I was looking into getting a transducer arm to just drop in the water. My concern is the pedal drive interfering with the side scan imagining. Do you have any advice?
Isaac, You may be forced to use the arm. On the majority of fish finder you can turn of a feature called surface noise. Which reduces the information the machine collects and should help you get a solid reading. I would try to install the transducer in front of the fins if possible.
You’ve got me sold on the graph however was wondering why you didn’t use the universal mount for the transducer? Is it because it wouldn’t be recessed enough?
I had used the PVC style mount on the Predator for several years prior to the universal mount and didn’t see the need to experiment. Depending on the transducer the universal mount isn’t the best option. Recently we have designed several alternatives to the pvc option - ruclips.net/video/m3Df9tHdolY/видео.html

Several options - the easiest involves a small stick or dowel rod and tape. Just tape the wires to the stick and throw it down the side of the kayak.
