I chose Note 8, and the reason is simple: Note 8 is the most complete phone, plus the almighty S-Pen. This makes Note 8 the phone with the most overall, all-round value. One phone may be better than the other in certain aspects, but taken as a whole, and with every feature considered, you can't deny Note 8 wins. It has everything you ever wanted in one single phone. (I'm not going to talk about the price because most users of expensive phones that I know are on some kind of payment plan, so things become much more affordable.)
Now "value" is subjective, but there is some degree of objectivity in this subjectivity. For example, you can't deny 6GB RAM is better than 4GB RAM. And just because *YOU* don't use the S-Pen doesn't mean it's "useless". Or, some people may find more value in Huawei's claim about the Mate 10 (or Pro) being able to maintain its pristine performance years later due to its AI chip, but this claim can't yet be proven because it's not time-tested at this point, and even if one says Note 8 would just slow down later the fact is this isn't time-tested either, and not every Samsung phone user experienced this slow-down. Just ask yourself, "What can this phone do for me better than the other phone can, and how much is it worth?" List them down and score them. You'll need to have sufficient understanding of each feature of each phone to do this fairly. If all the subjective value of both phones is objectively judged, Note 8 just wins.
I also like to look at what unique features a brand's phones can give me. Unique features aren't easy to have or develop since this involves getting "out of the box" and into something unique, and most smartphone makers just copy each other anyway.
The Note 8 has 3 unique things about it:
1) S-Pen. Nothing else comes close.
2) Knox. Best data security system on a smartphone your money can buy.
3) Best screen. This is more subjective but most people agree with it. I'm not only talking about technical details of Note 8's screen, but also the look. (Meaning, I think the "top notch" looks incredibly ugly. But that's me.)
What about Huawei? Mate 10 (or Pro) only has 1 as far as I can see:
1) AI. I understand this AI thingy may have much deeper and further applications and thus benefits, but for now it's still too new and the value currently provided by it is still less impressive than expected.
In short, Note 8 is expensive, but the sheer amount of features could make you feel it's all worth it, provided you make use of them. Mate 10 (or Pro) is good too, especially in areas it excels in. But for me, if I were to use every single feature of both phones but could only choose one, I'd go with the Note 8 hands down.

I'm a sammy user for 5yrs. And the fact is all sammy phone slows down soon..as i observed it will always lasts for 2-3yrs even though ur very careful abt it .Each system updates will make your phone worst maybe its their marketing strategy for u to buy or upgrade to a new one. That's d only problem i guess..no more no less. Expensive but worth it right? But its not a good investment though. Literally talking about d future.
true , the faith of samsung still the same . While empty run smooth , after get in some of the stuff , the slower we got. Samsung just work hard on style , huawei work hard on tech.
Dont forget about shadow on samsung screen, that mostly happen after 1 year usage.
If you're looking a balance and long lasting phone take Huawei, if you looking an impressive phone, take samsung
This guy always fails to mention the stereo speakers, IR blaster, and ability to hide and use the fingerprint scanner to navigate the UI on the Mate 10.
Mate 10 a lot cheaper
I got both these devices in my family and mate 10 screen is just a washout for some reason.....and once you put it besides the note, it's just no competition. Unless I got a bad unit, my Mate 9 seemed a lot better.
BUT, the mate cost me 300$ less and that is way too much of a margin.
Cameras, well, it's not as consistent on every shot, but details are more preserved in Mate 10, and it's bokeh mode is absolutely the best as you can shoot it in every situation and preserve details unlike all other options where plenty light is needed.
For a point and shoot, Note 8 is more reliable.
The AI feature is ok, not that big a deal as they claim while taking pics.
The Auto focus is absolutely fantastic if compared to the mate 9 and it's most times faster than the Note, so most of my kids pics were never missed....Note 8 is just as good though in all situations.
Battery i'm disappointed in mate 10 as my Mate 9 was phenomenal but hopefully it can be fixed over OTA. That dash charge though is as good as OP5.
Both are blazing fast (huawei was always ahead but Note 8 with 6gb easily competes now)
Fingerprint sensor is Huawei all the way.
EMUI and Touchwiz are both not for me as I install Nova the moment my phone boots up.
I hope my small insight helps anyone who was planning to make this purchase based on these points.
Great stuff man, yea I do agree that the Mate 10's screen looks washout if you put side by side with another device.
Well i have tested these two and note8 was really quicker opening apps and games. Waiting for oreo update to test again. I think many of p10 photos was overexposed and backrounds wasn't as detailed. Note had way better dynamic range overall and with pro mode i had even better pictures.

I'm using mate 10 now, and vivid mode option solved the screen washed out problem, now it's saturated and looking good

But so far there are 2 issues I don't care for.
1. Volume buttons on the right side of phone, too close to power button. Which I press my mistake.
2. No option to increase/decrease vibration intensity.
best phone ever and amazing battery life for me..it ticks off everything I need..good battery, good camera, good display, micro SD expanison and IR blaster..plain and simple..you can't go wrong with this phone

The microphones that puts sound on the videos is of great importance. You should always compare those.
Dude, note has iris scanner if you feel fingerprint scanner oddly placed... note 8 has way better and more features. 👍👌

Since I got the P9 Lite I'd choose Huawei over any other phone, I love their UI, and the fingerprint sensor is so fast.
I love the S Pen and have been a user for Note 3, then 5 and now on the C9 Pro. Tried Mate 7 and sold it after 7 months. Did not like the EMUI. I use the Garmin Fenix 3 HR and was told by Garmin that their products cannot sync with the Huawei EMUI. Can you validate this claim? Thanks Warren!
I go for Mate 10. I still very much prefer 16:9 ratio screen and the design is far better then samsung note 8

Mate 10 pro is:
- IP67 certified - dust and water resistant
- Water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes
S8 and note8 beat huawei p10 in battery test by far even huawei has bigger battery... don't know why. Optimation maybe better on note.
p10 uses 2016 flagship SOC while S8 and note 8 uses 2017 flagship SOC. There is no contest here, no point comparing S8 Note 8 vs p10. It is just a ignorant way to prove Samsung is better...
Also note 8 with 3.3k battery beat mate 10 with 4k battery... optimization on note 8 better than mate 10..
yes, sure it loses but for an IPS screen it does perform good. Since note 8 is using a different display technology AMOLED vs a IPS display phone, the test is not really relevant. You need to compare the phones with the same display, same brightness, same size, same screen resolution, same background process to really test the superiority of the chip. Battery life is not solely dependent on optimization only.
mate 10 pro batterry is 4000 mah but note8 3300 mah battery note 8 runs longer than mate 10

As a Samsung loyal customer I've been tired of Samsung lagging problem after 6months or 1 year of usage. I own S4, S6, S6Edge+, Note3, Note4 and S7Edge. This problem can't be denied, and this year I'm going to another brand. Huawei Kirin 970 with AI and whatever algorithm stuff seems promising, btw my Huawei MediaPad M3 works smoother than my S7Edge soooo this year I'm going to get Huawei. If you're a fanboy or Samsung please don't bother to reply this.
2 questions about the Mate 10... Did they add double tap to wake like Mate 8 had? ... And what's up with the extra digit on charging, did they add a persistent charging animation so you can look at the third digit pumping up?
Yes, it has double tap to wake. Oh well, the extra digit is probably to show you how fast it charges, LOL.
KLGadgetTV I've ordered the Mate 10 (not pro) it's a beast, love what it offers for less thanthe Note 8 😀... I've checked out more videos but it seems that the Mate 10 regular doesnt have double tap to wake, only pro has this feature 😯

I think you're wrong about the battery life. I've seen many comparisons between the top phones and when everyone (including the Note 8) dies, the mate 10 still has about 15% left.

My honest opinion is.. Sammy is more powerful than mate.. start from geekbench score till everything.. but both still under apple bionic scores. Just wait for snapdragon 845 or latest exynos to be the best
When technology goes ahead these reviewers call it a problem, but is inevitable and even RUclips is optimizing for the 18:5:9 aspect ratio cause they know it is the future.

Keep it up. Good to see Malaysian channel doing tech review especially on smartphones. No doubt Note 8 is the beast, however I am excited to check out the Mate 10 and Pro, it looks convincing.

AI is a camera gimmick at this point, but there's no denying the Mate 10 is a bargain at its price.
Of course Note 8 because it's double the price of the Mate 10.
I am missing some features from the note 8 you havent mentioned. For example the use with one hand, that isnvery easy if you turn on one hand use in the advaced feature setings. A more in depth comparison betwen the desktop computer version between both. A more in depth presentation of bixby especialy bixby vision and bixby voice. Note just isnt only about the s pen.

I did like curve design in samsung galaxy series. In other hand, I want that leica camera with bokeh application. Samsung has to add this feature.

The functions AI provides way more useful than feature s pen can bring. S pen bring more entertainment to the user no doubt but in the end it is ENTERTAINMENT. S pen cant beat the Mate 10 powering a screen with just a dongle while phone display itself act as a touchpad, and translating text off a image is just insane. Generally Mate 10 wins as a high tech productivity buisness device while Note 8 wins as a life style device.

Lololol this review is bias as hell. During the spec sheet overview, the Note 8 Destroys the Mate 10 in every category, having 50% more ram and a faster SOC and a significantly higher Resolution and instead of commenting on those 3 very important facts, you skip right over them to battery life, like wtf? The Note 8 has the specific intention of having a 18:9 or 2:1 aspect ratio for ease of use and handling. In fact, Samsung is leading the industry in this very direction. Most companies are following suit.
I didn’t specifically mention that the Mate 10 is better over the Note 8, same goes the other way round. Both phones are really great devices, and in fact you see I commended the Note 8’s battery life over the Mate 10 despite having a much smaller battery size. So, throw me some light on which part I was biased?
KLGadgetTV Your bias is painfully obvious in your lack of mentioning all these advantages the Note 8 has over the Mate. In fact, the Mate pales in comparison on every front. It's Kirin cpu is significantly slower than both the Snapdragon variant and the Exynos variant. It's "ai" chip is a gimmick. The S Pen is actually useful to business professionals like myself who this phone was built for. The specs on the Note 8 outclass the Mate 10 on every level, and you choose to skip over everything in favor of the far poorer device. Then you say the design of the Mate, which is old fashioned and dated, all new phones are 18:9 FOLLOWING Samsungs lead, the Mate 10 continues with it's dated, Boxy design. Your bias is clear in the video. Then your "verdict" is not existent when it's clear the Note 8 is the FAAAAAAAAR SUPERIOR device by HUGE margin. Your doing your viewers a HUGE disservice by lying through admission in your videos. Very bias and for you to not admit that is a shame.
The Note 8 does have many advantages over the Mate 10, and I believe the S-Pen alone is already the greatest advantage. If you are talking about performance per se, in real life I am almost not seeing any huge differences in terms of usability, they both work well in general stuffs like browsing, texting etc. Not unless you want to see benchmarks, and benchmarks are really just for reference. Phones aren’t meant to be compared like computers as you suggested in referring to their specs, but rather what the user experience is able to offer. Finally, I have never mentioned either one is better than each other.
Don’t forget, there’s still the Mate 10 Pro, which matches a lot of hardware specs as the Note 8. The Kirin 970 does have potential when it comes to its AI feature, and it is to ensure that performance doesn’t get affected in the long run.
KLGadgetTV listen, I agree with not putting to much emphasis on benchmarks, but that doesn't mean they aren't significant. If your going to do a fair review, then these things are staples to go by, of course user experience is the main priority, but that is 100% relative to the person using it. You need to have some point of reference thats both tangible and concrete for users to go by and that is usually hardware. Baked in capabilities will have varying degrees of importance to different people. For me, the S-Pen is leaps and bounds more important than a secondary AI chip for example when the main cpu has more than enough processing power to handle that and more...
The note 8 is the best phone this year hands down
Note of samsung can do a lot than every other android device but the durability and battery plus the fast charging is weak compare to mate 10 pro of huawei and FYi Samsung is a lot expensive than Huawei so i'm wondering why is samsung can't do that while there price is higher than other Phone,,,,,plus their Camera is beaten by mate 10 pro,,,,,,,even the iphone now is beaten by huawei,,,,,,
