I'm a recent convert and so glad i did.English folk at its finest.speaking of which, most music derived from folk songs from England,Ireland and Scotland.we have a rich and deep musical heritage that i for one am very proud of.Seth has picked up the baton and made it cool to love folk again.
I just read an article about Ian Anderson's (famed flautist and front man for Jethro Tull) favorite 5 albums and "Poor Man's Heaven" was one of them. What a joyous surprise!
You know, I'm not one who usually gravitates towards this kind of music, (hello, gothic metal) but this song is amazing! I may be looking into more of your music.
Congrats to the Sound Techs because you can actually hear the Bass and Drums on these tracks !!!! So often on BBC Transatlantic Sessions the Bass and Drums are not heard. Ditto with Amy Winehouse Concert London NO BASS OR DRUMS Heard. Well Done You Techies !!!!!!.
Hello, I just want to say that I really love your music, I live in Buckland Monachorum, and my father is friends with yours, of course it doesn't matter, but both I and my father really love your music, Keep it up! it's awesome! :)
@Jazperanza I already corrected myself about this song. He is using a violin in this song. However the song "Hearts & Minds" goes lower than a violin can go, so it must be a viola in that song (not this one). Before I found this song I read that he now mainly plays viola. Which might be true about new songs??? Hearts and Minds is definitely on viola... Race to Be King is definitely on violin... :P
@TheLibraryofBooks You're right, only just tried playing it on my violin. Hearts & Minds is on a Viola, I just assumed that the majority of his songs were. :P
@boothea Just for the record, it's freaking impossible. I'm a violinist and a singer, and I've been doing both since I was 4. I just started trying to do both at the same time... verdict: IT'S DIFFICULT! I Can't do it yet! KUDOS to Seth Lakeman, the multi-talented multi-tasker! :D
@Jazperanza In reply to your message to boothea, keep at it! You'll get there, took me ages to get it. My mate plays the cello in my band and can harmonise really well, but not simultaneously yet. He's getting a lot better. It just takes time.
@paintedpilgrim Given that the venue is Minack and the event is most definitely a concert, I'd venture to guess "yes" this is the concert he did at Minack. LOL
@jwheeler91 Yeah, it's getting easier! The trick is to not compose tricky melodies and sing at the same time. Seth usually sticks with chords when he sings - I should try that! :P
I saw a comment recently that giving a thumbs-down is the only way of training RUclips to not show a particular type of video in the suggestions bar, if it's not really your kind of thing. Seems to make a lot of sense - so they might not all be active dislikes.
@boothea That's so funny...I was thinking how hard it must be to play the violin and sing like that at the same time. Then I scroll down and see your comment! Ha.
@boothea One day I will play like this :P.I've lost my ability to play violin (although I think Seth is playing the Viola here?). But i will get better. The singing bit ain't that hard tho... Everyone sings better when they are stationary and boring behind a recording microphone. Nobody wants to see that in a live performance. They want to Seth's amazing energy :D. Look at Chris Martin. His singing ability reduces so much when he jumps around the stage. But he's amazing to watch... :P
Wow, he's singing while playing the fiddle. I can't even talk when I play mine, it closes my airway too much. You can hear him kind of slurring while he sings with this chin on the chinrest.
This guy is amazing; must get to see him live. For a very different kind of fiddling/singing combination, with some delightful clog dancing thrown in, check out Hillary Klug: ruclips.net/video/XsHQQ2BYaCQ/видео.html

He's not that young, ironically.
Absolutely extraordinary
You know, I'm not one who usually gravitates towards this kind of music, (hello, gothic metal) but this song is amazing! I may be looking into more of your music.

It's English actually ;). This guy's from Devon and uses a lot of the old local myths and legends.
OMG thats awsome sing and play violine wow
Yes lad
Sweet
You know, I'm a straight man, but....
Stop this disgraceful talk immediately. (But I see what you mean).
I hear you brother.
I feel u. Not like that tho
I'm a not so straight man and, phew - I'm not surprised
@Jazperanza In reply to your message to boothea, keep at it! You'll get there, took me ages to get it. My mate plays the cello in my band and can harmonise really well, but not simultaneously yet. He's getting a lot better. It just takes time.
is this at the minack theatre in Cornwall??
Is that the concert he did at the Minack?
Great
I'm sitting here dancing and grinning at my laptop like a goon...
Can’t see why this has got 31 thumbs down......funny people out there!
I saw a comment recently that giving a thumbs-down is the only way of training RUclips to not show a particular type of video in the suggestions bar, if it's not really your kind of thing. Seems to make a lot of sense - so they might not all be active dislikes.
to anyone that didn't know its the minack theatre in Cornwall :)
@Jazperanza Yeah, I'm struggling with that too... But for this one particular song that I wrote, i've become too attached to my violin part :P...
A true Devon lad :)
LIfe ambition. Play there.
@boothea That's so funny...I was thinking how hard it must be to play the violin and sing like that at the same time. Then I scroll down and see your comment! Ha.
i dont know, man, i just love folk
When i was little I always thought the sweethearts were their children lmao
that venue is carved out of the cliff
@Primedavies I used to think Kate Rusby was the be all and end all of modern folk. Then i discovered Seth ;)
English folk rocks !!
@jwheeler91 no, definitely violin :-)
@boothea One day I will play like this :P.I've lost my ability to play violin (although I think Seth is playing the Viola here?). But i will get better. The singing bit ain't that hard tho... You're the English Dirk Powell!
MINACK THEATER!!!
Wow, he's singing while playing the fiddle. I can't even talk when I play mine, it closes my airway too much. You can hear him kind of slurring while he sings with this chin on the chinrest.
Where is this filmed?
Its the Minack in Cornwall - easily one of the greatest spots the UK has to offer.
As Ben said. 'twas five years ago, a HUGE performance.
POV: you had to listen to this for a school homework
yes
This guy is amazing; must get to see him live. For a very different kind of fiddling/singing combination, with some delightful clog dancing thrown in, check out Hillary Klug: ruclips.net/video/XsHQQ2BYaCQ/видео.html
@jwheeler91 sorry! Wasn't trying to pick a fight. :-)
I've got to go but......music! :S
The Jew's Harp is a fantastic idea. But Allan MacDonald of Glenuig is the true origin of this Jew's Harp style! Beautiful, anyway! I appreciate this!
that must've been a cool show...
Ramsey Bolton?
I'd tap that.
Hell on wheels brought me here
miss devon :(
That's probably because the drums aren't the main part of the song.
seth :'( i'm the girl with the green hair from göttingen .. my english isn't perfect but .. i don't know.. i wish that you where here :'( so manypeople say taht every day . but.. i don't know. bye.
Not as skinny as i thought he was!
Brilliant saw somebody play like this 50 years ago he was awesome brought the house down cant beat a good fiddler!!! x x x
