A lot of people discriminate against this show because of the inaccurate representation of certain mental illnesses/disorders, but speaking as someone who has Tourette’s they did a pretty decent job at representing the disorder
Edit: I don’t agree with the discrimination and I think the entire reason why people dislike it so much is because Shaun doesn’t mask his autism

I teach in Bible school for toddlers and small children, my class is highly unwanted by other teachers because we have many neuroatypical kids and, considering their ages, they find very hard to express or control their feelings, and many of them act as this show. Also, I'm in med school (TWO LAST YEARS YAAAAAS!!!!) and plan to become a psychiatrist and, again, many of the patients I see act just like this show. The problem is not a bad representation, it's because people want to see themselves or what they believe to be representated, and anything else is considered misinformation and disrespectful

I’m autistic and maybe this is a weird comparison but people always hate it when others let their cats out. Yes they could die but so could people at school. It’s a risk to take. I think it’s just cruel for previous strays to be fully indoor or need a leash to go out when they want to be roam freely outside. I tried to take care of a stray and it wouldn’t stop meowing because she wanted to go outside and be free but get the free food and drinks so I released her and she was more happy. Cats have free will just like humans. Some strays actually prefer indoor life and don’t care about going outside again and that’s fine but for the ones that want to go outside, let them go outside.
I think it would be hard for any parents to see their child go through bullying but if the kid is willing to try again at the same school or school then I think they should let them

As someone with tourettes this is so accurate, I developed mine at 15, the bullying was fun but my tics had faster come backs than my slow processing and social anxiety ever could and since I have coprolalia (the swearing etc) it would be very colourful. After I made a few students cry and obviously felt bad and would apologise post tic and was obviously trying to stop the tic which you can visually see hurts like hell, they stopped
Edit: hey guys, thanks for the support when it comes to the comment telling me to "stop using tourettes as an excuse to make other people cater to my needs and do better" but I want to add something. Some comments, while well meaning, could come off as on the verge of bullying this person back. While I appreciate the support your providing instead of targeting someone that is obviously misinformed on the matter try and use your comment to either share your experience with having tics or educate on what having tics is like. Just because someone starts of misinformed doesn't mean they are stupid and unable to learn. All it means is they are nieve to the subject and need to be taught.
Again thank you for the support, many of you have already done this and I appreciate it but this is for those directly criticising someone who didn't realise they were saying something wrong.

As a special education teacher, I was testing a student (who wasn't in my regular class) and I asked him quietly if he could stop making a repetitive noise in the class as it was disturbing other students. I WAS SO HONORED when he told me: "Actually, I can't because I have Tourette's." Again, I was touched and honored that he chose to confide in me that I thanked him a bazillion times and promised to stay right by him until he finished. This was a brave little boy!!

We taught my DD to say “I have Tourette and I can’t help my tics. You can help me by ignoring them.” She was formally diagnosed at 7, but had been tic-ing since she was 4-it started with eye blinking, then stomach pushing, then vocal tics started. She is 13 now and has a 504 plan because she does not want to take tests where her tics can disturb others. She advocates for her accommodations. I’m a special educator as well, so I taught her to make sure she knows exactly what is on the 504 and what she is supposed to have. Her tics are diminishing so we are hoping that after puberty her tics will resolve (rule of thirds).

It's not cancerous, but it's growing? That doesn't make sense. It should have been "non-malignant."

I got muscel spasms from brain damage. I ran such a high fever that the protein in my brain started cooking itself. Now the muscle spasms are mostly on my left side and I was bullied because of it. I was fidgeting with something my dad made me out of stainless Steel. My bullies were laughing at me calling me ticki Georgie and I threw the bit at them hitting the leader in the mouth and just picked it back up. Sorry for the tick hope your OK in my best im sorry voice. They couldn't say I didn't twitch because I felt a jerk in my neck muscles causing my head to go side ways. They then never bullied me again. Mom even bought me my favorite ice-cream for standing up for myself
