There have actually been stories where crows have figured out monetary transactions. They will watch people walking to a food truck, handing over coins and receiving food. So they start bringing coins to the food truck to receive food as well. You can train corvids to bring you money, but I find it even more impressive that they can figure it out by themselves. Which is honestly much more analytical thinking than Hasan Nuggies-magically-appear-when-I-yell-at-mom Abi is capable of.

It's probably about the same. I see them fairly equally at my job and in life in general. It's diet related with both generally but with cats especially, there's a really frustrating mentality that it's just cute if they're fat.
If someone hasn't explained the merits of Pokemon as a potential Strategy game, allow me to shed a little light on why someone might think that. Because roughly half of Pokemon is a combat/battle game, strategies go into it, naturally. The addition of the turn-based element then means that, depending on how deep the systems go, more thought and care need to go into every turn to maximize advantages. In the case of Pokemon's systems, they run incredibly deep. Pokemon, for many people, is less about collecting and finishing the story, and more about the endgame, which can include collecting, but also includes making the strongest and most optimally constructed team to pit against other teams and players. Damage Pokemon have 2 types of offensive and defensive stats: Physical and Special. This means that you want to attempt to play towards your Pokemon's attacking strengths while also accounting for the enemy's defensive strengths. If you have a Pokemon that has middling physical attack against an enemy with very poor physical but high special defense, then that may be a better option than pitting your Pokemon with enormous special attack against their equally enormous special defense. Special Attributes Damage can be also increased or decreased based on elemental affinity, either pokemon's ability, that move's parameters, or an elemental matchup. STAB is a Same Type Attack Bonus granted to Pokemon using an attack that matches their element. This can further be levied against a Pokemon with a weakness to that element. Some times, a Fire Pokemon can get more damage out of using an electric move against an opponent weak to it than using a Fire move with neutral resistance. You don't want a team of all fire Pokemon, much of the time, because then they will be swept by anything with Ground, Rock, or Water moves, while having difficulty killing any of those same types. That said, balancing the elements of each pokemon, and the elements of each of their moves is incredibly important. Some pokemon come with abilities that increase the damage of their movies when conditions are met, or a move will deal either true damage or scaling damage based on parameters other than the user's Attack stats. Support Some moves do no damage whatsoever, and are purely meant to apply a non-damage advantage or disadvantage. A burned pokemon deals less damage and takes damage over time. A paralyzed pokemon has a random chance to be unable to attack for a turn, and these statuses have a wide range of uses. Some moves as well can modify a pokemon's stats, making them stronger or weaker, and some moves can place hazards on the stage for advantages later in the fight. A pokemon's ability to reduce all damage if their HP is full can be entirely negated by switching into Spikes, which hurts them upon entry. Switching out also requires a turn to do and provides statistical utility to your fight. It does no damage, doesn't buff anything, and doesn't debuff anything, but is sometimes necessary in order to protect a more important party member. Statistics Often times, stats other than beating an opponent's face in can go a long way. Speed plays a huge role in being able to inhibit an opponent or set up. Some support pokemon have weak attack or defense, and need speed to set up quicker. Additionally, if multiple set-ups are required, being able to face-tank a hit or two becomes more important than being able to hit hard. Accuracy for statuses needs to be taken into account as well, and choosing the right move based on accuracy or effect is very important. Speed Form Deoxys is total trash in most parameters, but its ability to almost always move first makes it very dangerous. Moves cannot be spammed into oblivion because their usage is limited, and it's obviously important to pick moves with an optimal power, element, statuses, accuracy, and usage amount. Thunderbolt (80 pow) is often picked over Thunder (100 pow) because it has 10 uses and full accuracy, while Thunder has 5 uses and 75% accuracy. Items Pokemon can use or hold items. Using an item requires a turn and takes some thought in order to minimize the disadvantage of using an entire turn not attacking, defending, or applying a status/buff. Holding items does not take a turn, but has an opportunity cost associated with it. Do you want to give your support an item that allows it to move first roughly 30% of the time, or do you want to give it an item that will prevent it from getting one-shot? Additionally, if a pokemon is holding a passive item such as an all-around damage boost, then they can't hold another item that will cure an ailment you expect them to get in the fight. Breeding Breeding plays a pretty big role in raising a pokemon, as it allows you to further buff them. Parents with good base statistics for their species will pass on those statistics, and finding the right ones is important. Additionally, Pokemon can learn moves not normally in their move pool based on their parents, and this also determines the variety and utility of their moveset. These parents also can pass on their abilities and natures (more stats). Lastly, breeding also encompasses raising that pokemon, and choices need to be made on how you will raise them. EVs stand for Effort Value training, and are determined by what they fight. I can see why you or anyone else wouldn't call Pokemon a strategy game, but I wanted to highlight some of the reasons people would come to that conclusion. Calling Pokemon a Strategy Game is like calling Smash a Fighting Game. Neither are conventional or adhere to the same rules in that genre, but a LOT of strategy goes into Pokemon, and Smash Bros is literally a game only about fighting. Many people are surprised to learn that brute strength will not get very far in Pokemon, and channels like temp6t show what happens when thought and strategy to into a team.
Pokemon atleast has strategy elements, but the developers made the normal game not use the mechanics to the full extent, to appeal to more people (especially children). In any of the games with a post story battle tower, simply using the most damaging moves will very quickly fail. You need to consider what non attack moves you want (status moves and the like), what items you want your Pokemon to hold, and you will need to swap out mid battle more often depending on what you end up fighting. That's just the NPCs, when you go to competitive PVP, then it will get even more complex as other people will be thinking about their own team, and how to counter what they think you might use.
I would describe it that the main single player story is an RPG with strategy elements, the post game pvp is a strategy game with RPG elements (breeding mechanic for better stats mainly).
About Pokemon, they're correct and also wrong, depending on what you do with it. It's either super easy, rock-paper-scissors level gameplay where you breeze through the story and collect some cute critters. Or you do tournaments. Which are insanely competitive and there are very complicated ways to optimize your results, it actually requires a lot of planning, patience and semi-complex calculations.
The rock paper scissors argument only even applies to early game too. There's far more than 3 types and a lot of Pokemon that have more than 1. I don't know how working a 6 mon team for elite 4 and champion is anything short of strategy. And all of this is before taking into account specific movesets or self imposed challenges like nuzlockes.
@@stillsameguy2836 it works on a similar principle as RPS, but more complex. And the way I used to play these games had very little strategy. If you just use your starter for every fight in the game, he'll be close to Lv100 by the time you reach Elite 4 and can one-shot pretty much everything. The rest of the team was HM slaves and cannon fodder while I was healing my main guy.
Regarding Mentos and Coke thing at 1:25:40 , I remember Mythbusters testing it out with using animal stomach and and it only ruptured after they completly closed off paths which leads to oesophagus and intestines. Additionally from a quick google search the reason that Coke reacts so intensilvely with Mentos is because of rough coating on surface on Mentos, and the coating is quickly dissolved inside your stomach so there would be not too much of a chance for enourmous accumulation of gases, and it would mostly result in you making a big burp at best.
1:25:51 Mythbusters did an episode on this. You’d have to clasp shut your stomach to force it to burst. In reality you’d probably just vomit a bunch of foamy soda and have a lot of gassy indigestion. Not a good idea. Honestly, the EFAP crew should go watch mythbusters. Lots of scenarios superchats ask are tested at some point or in some similar way that can be extrapolated. Great show.
10:20 idk what kind of statement that is lol. Cats are well known for eating literally any amount of food put in front of them. Fat cats are extremely common in society, I swear at least half the cats I’ve seen are significantly overweight
Can’t say I’ve had that experience. The other thing is, cats are smaller and can get plenty of exercise within your house. Unlike dogs, they don’t need the owner to take them out to exercise, they do it themselves. If you don’t take your dog out for enough/long walks or let it run in the backyard, they won’t be able to do much about it inside. There just isn’t enough room unless you have a really tiny breed.
I think that comment only speaks to the quality of cat owners that Rags hangs with, because he's clearly ignorant of a very common problem. When I got my first cat, I free-fed her and she got so fat that she couldn't clean herself. After I followed the instructions of my previous vet, she dropped the weight, and now my current vet compliments me on keeping her at a healthy weight every time we take her in. Both vets told me it is depressing how many severely overweight cats they see. PSA: Do not free-feed your cats, people! Feed your cats a vet-approved amount on a schedule, especially if they primarily live indoors! Also, it is ridiculously hard to listen to these guys speculate on something and draw conclusions that are very off when I actually know about that something. 😅 Ah well, I suppose it mattered to them in a significant way, they'd do the research.
On Rags comments on checks and cash: It is a GREAT way for people with financial trouble to get a grip on useless expenses and to understand where money goes. Using a credit/debit card makes you feel like you have infinite money.
Except it requires you to take an additional step of writing down what you spent your money on to actually keep track of it. If valuing your money requires holding it in your hand as a physical thing, you’re going to struggle with a lot of the modern world most likely.
I have a friend who doesn’t feel like using cash is as impactful, since he keeps track of his money through checking his bank account. If the number in the bank account doesn’t go down, it’s money he never had to begin with
I remember visiting my local animal conservation and they had a Raven there you could meet and pet. He was such a sweet boy. Ravens and Crows are so cool.
Rags, get your oil changed. Even if you haven't driven 5000 miles since the last one, the oil isn't good forever. Also, if you have a slow leak or your car burns oil, you could be running it without oil and not realize.
1:03:06 oddly, since moving into a small house with 5 acres last year, my RUclips channel has transitioned to upkeep and updates of it and I have seen the most growth compared to any thing else I had done before!
24:02 Something that's probably worth clarifying here - while the story mode in the mainline pokemon games usually only requires rudimentary strategy, competitive pokemon has A LOT of moving parts, and victory often hinges on a player's ability to prepare a synergistic team, anticipate possible threats, and read his opponents moves. Even as early as Generation I, the sheer variety of interactions between different monsters and moves has made PvP highly strategic. It's actually pretty entertaining to watch once you start to understand some of the complexities behind it. I haven't even played the games since Generating III, but I still have fun watching people compete.
Yeah based on how little they know about anime culture, they're strictly thinking about it as a single-player videogame, not the card game it's adapting.
@@Soridan If they don't get anime culture, they _definitely_ won't get a Japanese card game and the fan clubs around. Their exposure to Pokémon is exclusively in the gaming context and only the beginner levels at that
@@Soridan bruh it's not that complicated; all they know about Pokémon is what little they've played of the games, which are way less in-depth than Pokémon can be in more advanced gameplay or on tabletop; that's all I'm saying. You're just being an asshole for no reason. These guys are on record as taking one look at the hardcore Pokémon fans and dismissing it as "anime stuff I don't know about", whether that's comprehensive or not, if they don't get the wider anime enthusiast / Japanese nerd / weaboo culture (or any subcultures that are generally put under that umbrella statement), they're not going to immediately think of competitive strategy when Pokémon gets mentioned; they're gonna think about the way simpler video games and a couple memes from the cartoons they saw in passing
That whole smoking and yellowing is ABSOLUTELY why i love Ebay and the descriptions emphasizing "smoke free environment." Cus ya damn sure you dont want any yellowed or god forbid brown products
1:25:44 - if you do that then you won't get the same reaction you see in those videos. It's the mentos' coating that causes that to happen and the moment you eat it/get it in your acid filled stomach it basically dissolves right away. But, even if you somehow do it fast enough to combine the two inside you, your stomach will do what it's really good at in such cases and violently expel all of that shit before you have time to even think about dying from an inability to breathe. What you'll get at worst is feeling bloated and gassy for a while.
Speaking of Pokémon, I would love to see you guys do an arc of the original 3 1/2 Pokémon films. Which includes Mewtwo Strikes Back (along with the club cut origin of Mewtwo’s origin), The Power Of One, Spell Of The Unknown, and last but not least, Mewtwo Returns. The latter of which I think is inseparable from the original 3 films (hence the original 3 1/2 films comment) which is long overdue for a proper Blu-Ray release, and is the official sequel to Mewtwo Strikes Back.
I think they kind of missed the spirit of the Stonefish question. Stonefish sting pain has been described as similar to giving birth without any painkillers, sometimes lasting as much as weeks to fully go away.
Pokemon is a much more interesting and fulfilling strategy game when you play against other people and not the campaign that is designed for literal babies to mash through without reading anything.
The game is a arena shooter. You shoot 1 bullet per minute. This is a BFG level bullet. The rest of the time you are dodging enemies charging your shot. It's a shooter.

Take up landscaping; you'll literally work your ass off, but it's an external thing you can visually see progress on. If your goal is to clear out 20 feet of overgrowth today, it doesn't matter how tired or sweaty you are, you're getting it done.
Pokémon would be a strategy game if it involved, say, managing a bunch of Pokémon trainers and teams that went around a larger world map gathering/training/competing. Maybe one team will collect Pokémon while another competes and makes money, and then the ones you gather turn into better options for the competing teams. Ngl that would be a pretty cool strategy game but it's not what the regular one does.
1:45:51 the illnesses from smoking were already mentioned, but the medical bills should be added to the monetary costs of smoking as well. They get you coming and going.
For anyone in this chat and especially to Rags, if anyone of you ever decides to visit Northern Texas, I highly recommend trying this restaurant in both Frisco & Plano called Scotty P’s. They have what I consider to be The King of chicken tenders.
The EFAP crew could easily avoid annoying the pokemon crowd by specifying that it's the game campaigns that have no strategy. The competitive scene is what most people are thinking of when they call pokemon 'strategic'.
They probably didn't think about that, if they're even aware of this side of Pokemon. Most people have no idea, so I don't really hold it against them that much.
@chaser It's pretty apparent from their conversations about "Leaf Pokemon beats water Pokemon and that's all the strategy there is". They only talk about the casual main story of a game that's over 25 years old at this point.
01:34:40 a lot of the standing is for optics, "looking busy" is important in those sorts of jobs, even if you aren't. "sitting" can be seen as lazyness, but also that whatever venue you are in isn't as busy, and thus not that popular. People in service jobs sometimes have to do some serious circus bullshit to keep up apperances. Like if you wanna walk from point A to point B, you need to be carrying something, like clean dishes etc just to look like you are actually busy. Its a pantomime.
"If you had a shooter where you shot one bullet per hour..." Alright, make a realistic/semi-realistic sniping game; researching the target, fieldcraft, traveling to a location and then waiting for the shot. You could absolutely make a shooter where the entire aim is to fire only one shot over a long period of time with the focus of that shot being one singular kill.
24:00 My immediate thought was multiplayer battling. I'd safely say there is quite a bit of strategy that goes into that (and a ton of RNG)... But I think the extend of their engagement with it was categorization of the core games in a superficial manner.
It would be pretty niche. And we’re in an era of far more casual and addictive game loops being subsumed by FTP and bullshit mobile game mechanics in the Quest for More Money.
@207Indie game are a great place to explore niche game, though I think it would need a big online personality to propel it through streaming or something, and few people are willing to exercise their attention span anymore lol. I'm fairly certain that a game like this would get a cult following.
Pet health PSA: The obesity epidemic in pets (this goes for everything from hamsters to horses or reptiles and birds) is partly due to people willfully overfeeding their pets to be "nice," but it is actually largely caused by the way we treat our pet's meals and the way they are marketed. The directions on the back of the packaging are not generally accurate to what YOUR pet needs, and most foods have tons of filler your pet shouldn't be eating. Every individual needs a tailored diet to some degree, and most bags or cans of food do not even provide all of the nutrients the animal needs to thrive. They'll live, but so will you if you just eat McDonald's. There are free nutritional calculators you can find online as well as paid ones. I recommend everyone does some research if you can afford to be picky, or even to just better portion out how much food your pets get each day. And last note: "free feeding," or leaving the bowl of food out for cats and dogs to eat at their leisure, is terrible for their health. Put the bowl down for 30 minutes and then put it away. I also recommend feeding breakfast and dinner if you can (split that day's food in two portions) rather than just once a day.
If we are talking single player pokemon I'd say it's fair to say it's not very strategic. But if we are talking pvp there is a ton of strategy that goes into that.
Still praying for that Fincher EFAP movies arc. All his films are so distinct from each other and so good it’d be a really interesting arc. Director specific arcs in general really
Actually housecats are social too. Ideally if you adopt, you should have at least 2 cats. Theyll be much happier that way. If two female cats are around and one is pregnant and gives birth. Theyll take turns looking after the kittens so that the mother can get some rest and go eat and clean etc etc If two pregnant cats are near each other. Instead of being competitive. They'll take turns looking after both litters of kittens, again so that the mother cat can take turns looking after themselves. I think it's only somewhat recently that people are realising that cats arent really as aloof and solitary as previously thought. Of course the odd few are still total arses.
Popeyes still tastes great, but here are others that I think are really good: Roy Rogers, Culver’s, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Golden Chick, and Portillo’s. Those are currently the best fast food chains I’ve been to.
Vaping is alright in my book; you can fill those cartridges with basically anything and it just comes out as a steam. I know they can be super accessible and addicting, but by the same token you can taper off the nicotine dosage but still feel like your vaping the same amount. That's how my sister and brother-in-law quit smoking. She'd deadass just vape flavored air, no nicotine in it, until the habit was unlearned entirely.
2:51:25 I had to laugh when my apartment neighbors (the ones with a Tesla and a BMW) got a shutoff notice on their door for not paying their electric bill.
If you had a 10s rewind time superpower, broken controllers/monitors would be the least of your concerns. You'd dread the day you find yourself with a smoking gun in hand, yelling: come on, I laughed for barely 8 seconds, 9 seconds tops!
02:11:40 common misconception with weight loss, it needs exactly 0 exercise. its all diet. in fact, exercise can make it worse as it will increase cravings and if you aren't used to it will end up over eating, it also creates too high activation energy to do 2 huge life changes at once, which will demotivate them and increase failure rate, and importantly the persons cardiovascular system might not be able to cope with it resulting in damage to it. Proper protocol for weight loss especially if way over the line is to fix diet first, only after significant weight loss you introduce exercise, this can be something like half a year after starting it, to a year.
01:50:00 texas instruments are babies compared to Samsung. 2:51:30 I would assume a car person would buy a used car and restore it. Similar to how hardcore PC gamers don't buy prebuilt PCs - they build their own. Why would you pay someone else to do something you know how to do?
This is a bit of a long winded PSA but on the dog obesity thing, this is suchhhh a massive problem in the US. If you want to know a good rule of thumb for most dogs is you should be able to see the second to last rib. That's a healthy tuck for most dogs between 35 and 100 pounds. If they don't have a tuck, they are overweight. There are only a handful of exceptions, like English mastiffs, which you judge at a show by the thickness of their bones and the shape of their back, and you win shows by having a dog that can sustain carrying as much body weight as possible. I know one show winning English mastiff that weighed in at 308 pounds, and believe it or not that was a healthy weight at his length and with his bones. But 90% of the time, if you can see a second rib when you look at your doggo from the top down, congratulations, your little homie is probably a good weight to have a long life. If you have a shepherd, you really really need to watch their weight because it's critical their backs stay straight to prevent hip dysplasia, which is highly genetically predisposed from goofballs breeding them for the sloped backs instead of just stacking their dogs properly at shows. Take care of your pets! You'll have many pets but they only get one you, Keep them healthy! Tired dogs are happy dogs
10:20 You guys cleary dont own cats lol. All they do is whine for food. I have honestly seen as many fat cats as ive seen fat dogs As for cats knowing what not to eat it really depends, lotta cats die (including my neighbors cat) die by drinking ant freeze cause its sweet

I totally disagree with you about genre, mostly because I think most people are misusing the term. Terms like thriller, horror, romance, or mystery are what I would consider to be true genres because they're telling you something about the type of entertainment you're likely to get from that film, whereas other terms like science fiction, fantasy, or western are what I would consider settings in that they tell you something about the world that the story is taking place in, but nothing necessarily about the type of entertainment.

Items
Pokemon can use or hold items.
Breeding
Breeding plays a pretty big role in raising a pokemon, as it allows you to further buff them.
Thank you for the informative comment. I doubt they will read it, but i think you have proven your point.

That's a lot of effort for a rock paper scissors game
@@j-starchaser Fair enough, but that comes with the caveat of hours of grinding.
@@stillsameguy2836 true, it took a whole afternoon.

My worry is it would damage my intestines trying to go down
1:25:51
Mythbusters did an episode on this.
Great show.
Telling people to stop smoking so they can be alive for Rings of Power season 5 has to be the biggest argument in favor of smoking I have ever heard.
10:20 idk what kind of statement that is lol. Cats are well known for eating literally any amount of food put in front of them. Fat cats are extremely common in society, I swear at least half the cats I’ve seen are significantly overweight
They're also known for being extremely picky with food as well. They aren't quite dogs
Cats have the agility, claws, and the will to find and rip to shreds any bag of food that isn't locked down
Can’t say I’ve had that experience.
@@kyanitekat my family has cats, and from what I’ve gathered that’s basically the number 1 rule of cat ownership

On Rags comments on checks and cash:
It is a GREAT way for people with financial trouble to get a grip on useless expenses and to understand where money goes.
If the number in the bank account doesn’t go down, it’s money he never had to begin with
On the Dsp doc, it has been canceled since the recording.

24:02
Something that's probably worth clarifying here - while the story mode in the mainline pokemon games usually only requires rudimentary strategy, competitive pokemon has A LOT of moving parts, and victory often hinges on a player's ability to prepare a synergistic team, anticipate possible threats, and read his opponents moves.
@@samwallaceart288 "anime culture" video games aren't cartoons.
@@Soridan If they don't get anime culture, they _definitely_ won't get a Japanese card game and the fan clubs around. Their exposure to Pokémon is exclusively in the gaming context and only the beginner levels at that
@@samwallaceart288Riiight, now define "anime culture" please, I am eager to see what other nonsense you have in mind.

EFAP mini catchups are the only thing that bring me joy in life
What about efap videos?
1:25:44 - if you do that then you won't get the same reaction you see in those videos. It's the mentos' coating that causes that to happen and the moment you eat it/get it in your acid filled stomach it basically dissolves right away. But, even if you somehow do it fast enough to combine the two inside you, your stomach will do what it's really good at in such cases and violently expel all of that shit before you have time to even think about dying from an inability to breathe.
What you'll get at worst is feeling bloated and gassy for a while.

Also yes, thinking about Pokémon games that are clearly more interesting than Pokémon is the only thing that brings joy into my life

"If you had a shooter where you shot one bullet per hour..."
Alright, make a realistic/semi-realistic sniping game; researching the target, fieldcraft, traveling to a location and then waiting for the shot.

2:40:00 not the Osmosis Jones sequel we asked for, but the one we need
Pet health PSA:
The obesity epidemic in pets (this goes for everything from hamsters to horses or reptiles and birds) is partly due to people willfully overfeeding their pets to be "nice," but it is actually largely caused by the way we treat our pet's meals and the way they are marketed.

Actually housecats are social too.
Ideally if you adopt, you should have at least 2 cats. Theyll be much happier that way.
If two female cats are around and one is pregnant and gives birth. Theyll take turns looking after the kittens so that the mother can get some rest and go eat and clean etc etc
If two pregnant cats are near each other. Instead of being competitive. They'll take turns looking after both litters of kittens, again so that the mother cat can take turns looking after themselves.
I think it's only somewhat recently that people are realising that cats arent really as aloof and solitary as previously thought. Of course the odd few are still total arses.

Vaping is alright in my book; you can fill those cartridges with basically anything and it just comes out as a steam. I know they can be super accessible and addicting, but by the same token you can taper off the nicotine dosage but still feel like your vaping the same amount.
A puzzle game where you get a limited number of bullets and have to use the environment to kill all the enemies on the map might actually be very fun.
