I've pulled out all three of my Dorns and they dominate. Just putting them on the field more often than not disrupts your enemy's plans because if they've experienced going up against a Dorn before, 3 is just more than they can handle. Even without orders, they pack enough punch and can absorb enough fire that they take the pressure off of other units. I was able to sneak up a Cyclops right up to a Primarch because my opponent completely disregarded a tiny tank as being a problem, right up until it went off.
You were able to "sneak" a cyclops up to a Primarch because it's a combat ineffective unit. It's main purpose is to score secondary objectives, not fight the enemy, as counter-intuitive as that seems. The best way to handle some cyclops being used offensively is to literally just move a screening unit next to it... you don't even have to shoot the thing. It gets rid of itself lol.
Sah, the Dorn is a treasure and we all know it. But Leman Russes have Squadron for a reason. I'd propose a team of Demolisher Tank Commander, a Vanquisher/Battle Tank and an Exterminator team. By size alone our boys Russes have been made into "light" tanks. Their name comes from THE WOLF himself, and wolves hunt in packs. The Rogal Dorn is supposed to be this fort that can take punches and give them back. Never forget the Russ.
@@cadeplaisance3169 There is nothing special about, in this context. Both Dorns and Russes have the Squadron keyword. The keyword is mostly relevant to where they can receive orders from.
I picked up the Christmas Box and a Baneblade to go with my 30 built Krieg. Tanks have been magnetized for all variants, assembled, and given GSC upgrades. I have about 50 more Infantry, 3 Techpriests, Leontus, and Ursula left to assemble before I can start playing with'em. Definitely looking forward to it.
Dorns are kinda what the Repulsor Executioner ought to have been: a solid firing platform that's tough to remove. That base 2+ save is very nice and ought to be the baseline for any heavy tank.
The executioner sacrifices transport capacity for more guns, but is still a 3+ save. Compare the various land raiders with their 2+'s without giving up their transport capabilities. Realistically, if I want to field transports with big guns on them, I'll use 2 Razorbacks/Impulsors over a Repulsor.
@@Rexir2 well that’s my point, the repulsor sacrifices transport capacity for a bigger gun, but its not like they changed the armor or anything. So a 3+ save makes sense, whereas the landraider is, essentially, a giant heavy tank that is just big enough to hold troops, so it gets a 2+ save
Problem there is that the bradley isn't a tank, but a variation of the ampv, which is basically what the razorback is to the rhino on top of all the other rhino-pattern vehicles. But I digress. I'm not a fan of the repulsor and executioner due to the poor armor for its cost. In comparison, the dorn tank does exactly what a heavy tank should do
Always remember the Leman Russ Squared principle. Two Leman Russ are not twice as good as one but rather 4 times as good. You double both your damage and how long they last for 4 times the damage output. I suppose the same thing could apply to Rogal Dorns.
Double Dorn plus Tank Commander with Grand Strategist. 740pts for all the tank you're likely to need in any list; just plug and play these three and build the rest of your list however you want. Just remember that the TC can order out to 12", and that giving 2 Dorns +33% damage plus it's own damage makes the TC the clear best target to remove given the chance. Thus, keep the TC a little further back and out of LoS, and just let it handle the stragglers or act as a counterpunch unit. Biggest mistake I regularly make is trying to push it forward so it can use its Demolisher Canon, and then lose it.
I have been running two, even if the enemy focused one on a turn. Pop smoke and Armored might typically let's it survive another turn and just be a nuisance at worst.
I brought 2 Dorns to a 2v2, 1k points for each player. It took 3 Doomsday Arks three turns to kill them and only with help the from Saint Celestine's grenades and the Nightbringer. This was without Enginseers. We lost eventually, but the Dorns were worth their points.
I've been running double Dorn in my lists for a while with a Russ exterminator as a tank Commander with grand strategist. It's able to punch and get punched as MG says. My flgs is necron dominated, so playing with 2 makes sure they go down and stay down

Suppose you're a Guard player, and you know you'll be playing another Guard player, and you know they'll be bring double Dorn - what do you do? Is it time to roll out the Vanquisher squadron?
You would probably want to roll out demolishers to fight dorns as the vanquisher is very swingy and when it does hit the Dorn can just blank the damage. The demolisher while being more expensive has a lot more shots and is more likely to get through the defenses of a Dorn.
My current list uses 3 Dorns, works quite well tbh. I use 3 with 2 russ commanders (1 classic and 1 demolisher with flamers), a basilisk, a manticore, 3 scout sentinels and round out with 2 catachan 10 man squads and 1 10 man squad of krieg attached to a platoon command squad. @irieform5442 I also have too many characters. I liked the looks of Creed's datasheet so she was my first purchase. Then the combat patrol, then the Christmas box, then solar and a Chimera followed by more Sentinels, a heavy weapon team, and 2 russes. I have 2k points now but my indirect fire is severely lacking.
@@lungugrungus I managed to snag a basilisk n I got my field ordinance batteries set up as bombasts so I have got some, I need creed tbh n some more infantry haha I'd like a squad or two if krieg with marshalls at least
i have 4 Dorns i need to paint.......
Mordian ur a fucken beast m8
Great stats, hate the model, hate the other model it obliges me to support it with.
speed wagon
3 rogal dorns....
I’m sorry sir, but the shadowsword is ride or die for the rest of time.
Oh I love the shadowsword, but it just gets screwed by terrain at most tournaments :(
The first game I han my dorn my opponent also had a dorn and el classico russ. My dorn took them both on and won because I used armoured might every turn. I’ve also had a dorn live through a baneblade shooting phase and then take out said baneblade with infantry lascannon support. Its a beast and I can’t wait to print my second
Edit: name corrections
Ablative playing should be used Once PER GAME not every turn, that’s unless it was a typo, but in fact Rogal Dorns are in fact really strong right now :)
@@DeathKorpsOfWrath I meant armoured might sorry mate.
I still don't own a dorn 😢
They aren't mandatory but you should consider it. The different loadouts make them like a Swiss army knife for different opponents that you will expect to go up against.
Guard pays 190 pts for d3 reanimation + 5+FNP where Necrons pay 260 pts for the same thing. All guard battleline units should be 100 pts base, then it would be more fair.

Quality has a quantity all it's own.
Yes. It's so good. Until nerf ofc.
