The band director in my home town school system got me hooked on Basie. Once I got my drivers license I'd be over at his house on Saturday getting schooled on big band jazz bands. He always said Basie had the best saxes in the business. He had me playing bongos with the stage band my Jr year and bass fiddle my Sr year. I told him I couldn't even read the bass part and he simply said, "fake it..." BASIE RULES!!
I remember Glasgow 75 seeing Bobby Deans big band playing Satin Doll and it blew my mind, I followed jazz from that day on, shame there's so few big bands anymore. Great upload, thanks
I kep on coming back to this performance. Theres something uncanny about it. Its like not of this planet. Cant describe wht it is. The word spiritual is so mis understood and mal used it wont do. The audio quality here is beyond dreams. Am in tears agin. How stupid am I.
Clarification: I do not see Frank Szabo or Pete Minger in the trumpet section. I see Willie Cook sitting in the first chair and Bob Summers in the 4th chair. Left to right: Carley, Cook, Cohn, Summers.
Behold the genius of The Count and the evergreen princes of melody.I gasp my young breath in awe as my soul is travelling through the enchanted miles of thoughts Behold the unity in melody Behold the enthusiasm of the masses.....sundowns
How can 15 people give this group a thumbs down? They must be one those modern types!! Basie forever!! Jazz at its best!!
