  • We've been hitting the dirt a little more the last few years in our various trucks around the shop in mostly Toyota stuff but we've never had a Jeep! Time to try to understand what this Jeep thing is all about! We picked up this 2005 Jeep Wrangler "LJ" to turn into a hopeful do everything off roader; check out what's already been done by previous owners and what our plans are for the Jeep!

    I have little interest in off-roading myself, but this will be a nice change of pace from the regular MotoIQ content and this place needs more content! Keep them coming, Jeff.

    I can take those bfgs off you're hands if you want - I'm looking to downsize to 31s and have been looking for 4 tires lightly used. I am in OC

    Rear main isnt too bad to do on these, especially if you have a lift and can droop the front axle enough to get the pan outta the way. On your back lying in a pool of oil, maybe a 2.5 hour job. Might be 1 hour or less with a lift.

    I own a 2004 Jeep (LJ) Unlimited (188k) -Runs pretty for the most part. However, it needs work and going down Lakeshore drive (now Jean-Baptiste DuSable Drive) hitting those bumps, makes me feel at time like I'm going to die. Once I get some of the repair done, I will work on upgrade - Good information, also has some humor as I can relate to my current Jeep. I welcome any advice - Thanks

    Shame that locker failed. I wonder if that hood vent is some attempt to cool the manifold(s) and fuel rail? I have seen a few of the 4.0s experience vaporization of fuel in the rail which causes stalling or a no start condition.

      That's probably the case actually, that scoop isn't part of the ram air intake now that i look at the product (why it's named ram air i have no clue) but the underhood heat is definitely real! makes for a nice oven to cook chimichangas for lunch on the trail though!

      @@motoiq people put heat shield on intake and fuel rail but there is one guy on youtube who installed aux electric fan under hood. Imho its better than heatshield since you do mountain steep uphill it will also help engine heat to cool down

    Rear main seal leaks are very common on that engine.

    • @jackcarpenter8995
      @jackcarpenter8995 2 года назад +1

      It's actually a pretty easy job. That 4.0 has a two piece rear main seal. So if you drop the oil pan, you can remove the rear main bearing cap and tap the upper seal out. Install is just tapping the new seal back in and torquing things back together correctly.

    12k seems kinda high considering the issues but used car prices…

    • @motoiq
      @motoiq  2 года назад +3

      there's definitely a Jeep + LJ + Southern California + Used Car tax baked in, but most of the issues are things we plan to replace anyway :)

      LJs command a premium because not many of them where made and they are a good size for offroad not to short of a wb to be tippy and not as long and ungainly as a 4 door

    • @errhka
      @errhka 2 года назад +5

      12k is a STEAL for an LJ in Southern calfiornia where there's light rust. Most of them are high teens low 20s now
