Report: California tourism numbers top pre-pandemic levels, Bay Area lags behind

- Gov. Gavin Newsom posted a video of himself standing atop the Golden Gate Bridge to highlight a new tourism report. While California sees tourism recovery, the Bay Area still continues to lag behind. Alyssa Goard reports.

San Francisco will never be the same again as far as tourism goes! What once was a beautiful city is now a ghetto with tons of crooks, and very little police officers. It is gonna take YEARS for San Francisco to rebound from the current mess they are in.

Too much traffic, steep hills are scary to drive on, confusing roads, no parking, cant leave valuables in car, you get harassed by homeless people, might get robbed, nothing special there and stores suck
Actually the traffic has gotten better because folks are not coming and businesses are shutting left and right
Walked around Union Square yesterday (Sunday 5/5), majority of retail spaces are empty with for lease signs up

Pier 39 looks empty in the report.
The cost of everything in SF is sky high. The city is full of homeless and drug addicts, which makes it unappealing. Also, the amount of empty store fronts and demolished vacant lots doesn't help either. The city needs to make it more reasonable to do business.
Cool, cool. So... adjust those numbers for inflation, 'eh? Oh... oh that's not good.
Everything is 20% more expensive than before, why don’t they tell the number of tourists but use the spending?
Yes travel spending has increased because of the 40% inflation on gas travel and hotels you iodits

That’s the Bay Area for you! All news organizations is sugar coat the problems in the Bay Area. It’s been going on forever! As far as a Bay Area news organization telling the truth about sf’s problems that will never happen. People would boycott that station, and they would go out of business. Really it’s all about the people in the Bay Area. They are too prideful about their precious area!

True but this rate of inflation hasn't been seen in decades.
Addressing inflation is hard, and politicians like to go for low hanging fruits with band-aid solutions.

San francisco needs to Amp up pier 39 , make an amusement park ! Gett Disney to open a park out out here , make it more tourist friendly, gotta think ...why is los angeles doing so much better ? Because there isn't much to do, we need more to be more unique as well as taking a few plays out of southern California's book . More amustment.more interaction themed activity we just need to tweak the character of the city, and add some attractions that people can actually enjoy ,think kid friendly as well as fun for all ages

If possible I avoid even driving through San Francisco. Newsom went up on the bridge to get above the homeless, the crime, and poop on the sidewalk.
From an urbanism perspective, which is more exciting to visit? Excessively wide stroads and strip malls or quaint streets with lots of shops? Also cities should rely entirely on tourism for their economy; tourists make places far less attractive for locals in the area. The whole reason Gion banned tourists was because tourists don't know better. Making places attractive to locals is far better financially, and replacing these parking lot strip malls is a good first step.
No one is going near San Fran or Oakland!!!! My favorite is Santa Cruz.

Ain't no one from Asia coming to CA or anywhere for that matter. That ship has sailed. Japan's population and economy is shrinking, the yen is at an all time low. China economy is shrinking, manufacturing is moving out, they ain't got no jobs. Korea has the worst birth rate in the world and population is shrinking worst than Japan. Taiwan is on the same path as the others. Countries that are starting to grow are the ones where manufacturing has moved to, but it will take time about a decade for them to accumulated wealth where they will start traveling internationally.

Living here in San Francisco daily driving in and out and through, and around all the tourist destinations, I can tell you for a fact, there is barely a quarter of the amount of tourist that have returned to San Francisco .
And with good reason, same with the rest of the state .
Go to the amusement parks there’s barely any lines anymore. You don’t have to wait like you used to. .
