- This heat wave has me stuck inside editing videos… This was one from my first party boat bonito trip of the summer, hopped on the jamaica and was not disappointed with plenty of bonito, chub macks and small blues hitting the epoxy jig, even had a mahi on but lost it.. All these fish were put to good use as they were all eaten or given to friends for shark bait, generally only keep what you plan on eating/using.

@@dylanvanbuskirk926 The Big Jamaica is out of Brielle, and a bonito trip costs 30 for kids, and 65 for adults. A rod rental is 7 dollars for conventional, and 10 for a spinning rod.

Just went fishing on the Jamaica this morning and put over 50 chub Macks in the boat. Skinned/deboned them and grilled them. Went from a blue/grey meat to a flaky white with cooking and is amazing in fish tacos! #nofishistrashfish

Folks questioning whether these fish are good to eat. YES. Delicious. One of my favorites. The problem is that depending where you are on the East coast, different locales call different fish "bonito" which may cause confusion. And, some folks confuse these bonito with albies (false albacore, little tunny, etc.) as they often will school together in the early fall run. Albies are awful, although I have encountered certain recipes which claim to make them better.
Clean and fillet these fish ASAP (bleed if you can beforehand). The flesh is pink but cooks into beautiful white meat. They freeze well. Cook em blackened in a pan or with a little teriyaki on the BBQ. You will not be disappointed.
As of the chubs, never tried so I defer.

i dont underztand. everytime i fish the ocean people take every fish they catch. let them get bigger at least.
That's because we catch them for dinner as I'm writing this I'm preparing to go on one of the party boats to catch my dinner.
Some people depend on this for income and food and some type of fish taste better smaller also there is millions of them I. The ocean they reproduce very fast
Don't you think its a little crazy how the supreme court's say there is no constitutional duty to protect people but they can protect the fish ? Not trying to spoil your fishing at all, just trying to bring awareness . I'm have been fighting for our inherent rights to catch a fish without paying people who call themselves a state !

@@thremachine8120 Not in Maryland, here we are forced to buy a fishing license/state permission slip to catch a fish, saltwater and fresh! What they do is use things like The Public Trust Doctrine which if anyone would do the research they would see that it is a fiction nothing more.

Couple of suggestions;
-Replace the treble hook with an inline hook.
-To vastly improve the quality of the bonito meat, bleed the fish by pulling the gills out.
-Chill your catch in your cooler with a slurry-ice & sea water

Most people use the name bonito when they're actually catching false albacore, which are ass to eat. But these are Atlantic bonito which are totally different
