Karate girl "Mahiro Takano" 11 years old. incredible awesome performance.

- Mahiro TAKANO was born in Japan on July 15, 2006. She learning karate since she was four years old.
On the opening ceremony of a new martial arts festival held in Tsubame, Niigata Prefecture on January 28, 2018, she performed KATA "Kanku-dai" and "Gankaku". Then she was 11 years old.
She appeared in Sia's music video. She is appointed KARATE 2020 Ambassador of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
We also uploaded the performance when she was 7 years old at RUclips. The link is as follows.

She has grown up so much! I still remember watching her performance when she was 4. Still amazing!
The power, speed and precision...is amazing
Speed and Precision yes, power no. Too quick for proper hip, arm, and shoulder rotation for power. Her strikes would be only slaps and not powerful kinetic strikes. New Karate especially that of the WKF is like something between XMA and Traditional Karate. Kiais are not yelling matches like seen in XMA and WKF, they are natural and don't seemed forced like Mahiro's or the rest of the Karateka seen in WKF.

I felt how powerful the movements are just from watching
Very impressive, especially for that age! The only two real improvements I could see would be steadying her hips more and some of the hand movements where she might not have enough muscle yet to create the right amount of tension. But her breathing and especially her balance and her footwork are incredible!

I so love her. I do karate too, my favorite kata is Enpi, but I didn't do that kata because I'm orange 1 belt😂, but I love Enpi. This girl is my favourite karate kid. Thanks to her, I do lot better, because I have seen her a lot, and because I do like her, I always win medals at competitions. Mahiro, you are my favourite karate kid 😉❤💪

4 years ago she was above average now she is really quite good. You have to remember she's 11, some leg and body exercises she shouldn't be doing too much of until she's older, that'd improve her kata even more.

I think she is better. She is showing more control rather than rushing. Sotokan is supposed to be hard and strong it is the style. And the kata she is doing is very practical. Only trained martial arts people would understand the application for the kata.

Nobody is perfect. That’s what makes practicing karate so fun! Constant improvement without any end in sight.
My kata has steadily gotten better over the years, but it still feels pretty sloppy sometimes 😕 This girl has some stuff to work on sure, but I wouldn’t want to go up against her in a kata completion! She is very good.
She may look innocent on the outside, but on the inside, she's a fearsome and powerful fighter with a ferocious kiai.
kiai is NEVER ferocious. kiai is the spirit of the BUDO becoming movement and energy in this world

I voted down, and though you consider me a moron I'm 2dan shotokan karate and 3dan sankukai karate.
Consider this. you can teach almost everything to a child. and this irl is learning very greedly the movements. But Gankaku is not a kata for children. breath control is a must. contraction and ki control is all in this kata. and a child cannot have any of these.

@@yorth8154 consider this. you can teach children almost EVERY movement. there are children who are better than adults, at gymnastics, at horseriding, etc
but children do not have consciousness of what they are doing.
they cannot transmit, they can just repeat and repeat
so there are kata who are made to be repeated over and over
but other kata are made to be learned. and to learn the kata you must understand... something.
enpi is just one of those kata. you cannot just execute the movement. you must understand and become an "enpi"

Oh. My. God.
What a remarkable young lady! However, try watching, say, just the opening few moves at 0.25 speed and you'll see that in her desire for speed, she doesn't complete her movements in the correct form. Her arms seems to 'flail' around rather than running along tram lines of precise movement! There's a lack of 'kime' in her movements She's only young and I'm doubtless being too critical. I look forward to seeing her Karate in 10 years time when she's improved even further, which I'm sure she will!
I don't think you are being too critical at all. You simply speak the truth on what it is that you see. IMHO it could be that what we're seeing [of an 11 year old athlete], is the need for the brain to adjust to the body growth and development that is occurring.
Personally I'm not a fan of kata done this way, but there's no questioning the fact that she has done good things to help promote interest in JKA karate. For example, I prefer kata announcements that can actually be understood. My preference is for kata that actually completes each and every movement, and avoids 'clipping' for the sake of speed. And finally I don't like too much posing. To me this is what's wrong with WKF. If the kata is good, then people will appreciate it's qualities.
Having said all of that, I think she's a wonderful ambassador for karate, and wish her all the best in her karate future.

Black Belt in this age...
Clear the girl is very talented, however, in the very beginning she needs to control her kiai from her diaphragm rather than from her throat. Her punch then formarm block, was poorly executed, because she did not extend her punch to have the power it needs to have. I have seen this kind of Kata demonstration often, it's more for show rather than practice of karate.
If she get a boyfriend... I don't think they would want to cheat on her... Unless they want to die😂😂

For a child she does well, but I would suggest to her that she slows down. As for the "black belt", that's not something for a child.

Careful now Cinamon, people [especially fans] don't like to hear the truth. But in all seriousness, I hope that you are wrong but fear that you're probably right. I say this because I have seen it all my life, where young people enjoy some success, enjoy the recognition and stray from the real karate into the sports karate mentality.
Hopefully her coaches and Sensei bring balance to her karate training, and ensure that championships and demonstrates are completely seperate to real karate. But to be honest sports karate 'mentality' is now so prolific among karate-ka and karate Sensei, that they honestly don't believe they are even doing Sports Karate.
Bill Blinky Very investing comments. I do understand your concerns. I have heard it said that it is not necessary that any one outside of your dojo should ever know that you are karate practitioner. It bothers me to see children still in their gi on the street after dojo. The world is of two ways.

Kata is an aesthetic demonstration of an imaginary combat. People add pauses and slow deliberate moves for dramatic effect. I will never understand why people get their panties in a bunch over that

Five Dee ...LOLOL! .it’s called “Kiai”. Pronounced
“Kee-eye”. There are two reasons a martial artist uses his/her kiai. One....they use it to scare, distract, or otherwise throw their opponent off focus. Don’t laugh! It works! And two.....when you kiai, you tighten up all the muscles in your body, and that helps to protect your body, and makes it more difficult for your opponent to throw you off your stance (fighting position. ie: ready stance, horstance...etc. ). I hope this helps.

She is good, very good, but if she screams like that in a fight she would get her butt kicked. Well over the top, standing there screaming with her eyes closed does not belong in a martial art.
