A seller could use a mystery box to sell ~$250+ worth of non-selling goods for $250 rather than a small loss on each. It also helps avoid individual shipping costs in selling each item separately. If you can buy the items in a $250 mystery box brand new, still in stock for $150, that's just a scam.
Really I think they buy stuff at retail or even on sales and then put the box at retail price. So like idk an off white tee for 150 and the box at 300.

There are 3 type of mystery box sellers. First is the one where the seller loses money which means the buyer makes money. Second is the seller who makes money and buyer loses money (just like this video) and third, sellers who price the box exactly as the price of the items so both sides don’t lose or make money.

Mystery Boxes aren't even allowed on eBay. If I'm selling a mystery box for $$$ you have to factor in eBays 10% final value fee, pay pals 3.5% fee, plus $10-15 for shipping. The rest is my profit. So a $250 mystery box with $150 worth of product, minus fees and shipping would leave me with about $50-60 in profit.
