This is my favorite movie of all time. I saw it for the first time when I was 16. Since then I have seen it over 100 times. I never get tired of watching it. I've even got the soundtrack in an album. RIP Jill Kinmont Boothe. 🎿🎿👋🦋🙏🌹

The soundtrack is available at Walmart, o just looked it up. You can probably order it online. I was a studio singer in Los Angeles for 60 years sand had the pleasure of knowing the film’s composer, Charles Fix, and working with him.

I saw this movie when I was 8 yrs old and have watched it every time it's been on television since then. I fell in love with Jill and wrote her when I got in jr. High school. I went to the library and researched all about her the real Jill. Wrote her and became a pen pal to her for quite some time. Then when fb came out I had her on my friends list. She was an awesome women. And I am very proud to have known her. And I miss her ( my friend) so very much. RIP JILL!

1981 , I did what I never wanted to do! I was in bed unable to walk ( with excruciating pain and hopelessness) and I watched TV! This is what I saw and haven’t seen since then but I’ve always remembered this account which I somewhat related to ! The presentation was very moving!
    Thanks !!!

I saw this movie when I was teenager. A skiing teenager. I loved it then. I just skipped to a few memorable places in the story and cried just as hard now. This was not a terrible movie and not a terrible story as described earlier. I will watch part I and II again (40 years later) and I know I'll love it just as much.

I had a blesseed and busy studio singing career for 6 decades. One day while waiting outside a recording studio to go in, i came across and recognized William Bryant who portrayed Jill Kinmont s father in the movie. We talked about it and he said it was an enjoyable shoot for him and very moving. The scene near the end when he’s on the phone learning of Mad Dog’s death is such a heartbreaker!

I saw this in the theater when it was released, and cried with her in every heartbreaking moment ! I know she did marry and she had a loving, devoted husband. But I always wondered if she was really that close to Dick Buik, or was that how the movie portrayed them ? She was an amazing skier,, but I think she actually accomplished and achieved much more, as a result from the accident.

The actor who played Dr. Pittman, if I'm not mistaken, I think he played Henry Chamberlyn on Guiding Light back in the mid-80's .
I watched the movie again, and I noticed something..... she didn't listen. When her coach (Dabney Coleman) told her about what became Jill's fateful ski run, he talked about how one skier slowed down but kept control. Jill thought she'd beat her competitor on speed and it cost her, big time. *"Act in haste, repent at leisure"* . (or, in the emergency room. )

My dad took me to see The Other when it came out. I remember the theater in out community was pretty full when we were there. I was 11 at the time and got to see it because it was a PG movie. As a kid sitting in a big movie theater, I was scared to death! But that was what I loved about the movie, it scared me. I remember not being able to sleep very well the next several nights. LoL. Mom and dad kept saying, you shouldn’t have gone to see it.
I found a copy of The Other online and ordered it, it was only $2.50 + shipping. Now that I am 60, I can understand much better why I was so scared all those years ago. I still think The Other is a great piece of work and even though I have gotten much older, the movie still haunts me the way it did the first time I saw it. I understood the story when I was 11 the same way that I understand it now. The story is about the evil brother, Niles.
I have always felt that directors, producers and critics tend to be to picky about there films. To bad, because The Other is a true classic horror film without getting gross or becoming a slasher film. Slasher films leave very little to the imagination making much less truly believable. We all know it’s buckets of red corn syrup and not real blood. The Other leaves you with a lot to think about afterwords. The story is good, the music is perfect, I thought the cast was very good. I am not sure that any back story on Ada would have actually helped the movie any. I pretty much had that figured out from the beginning.
Besides, when I was 11, I learned a new word, “ Yowsah!” I remember overhearing my parents talking about the movie and my dad saying, “Well, at least he’s now running around say swear words, I can live with ‘yowsah,’ “

I have a huge sports magazine collection and Jill is on the cover of the 1/31/55 cover of Sports Illustrated. I have a coffee table book showing all the SI covers for the first 50+ years with some detail about many covers. In the book Jill's cover, which came out within 6 months of the magazine's start and was still on the news stands when she had her accident, is credited with starting the famous SI jinx. The cover explanation talks about the movie which is how I knew to come here. I actually have her cover/issue in perfect condition. They grade magazines now and I know mine will be the highest graded copy after I send it in. I used to ski years ago and have been to Bishop and skied Mammoth. I'd love to make sure my magazines, many getting pricey like baseball cards believe it or not, get into the right hands someday. If somebody from Bishop or someone that has a special connection and place in their heart for Jill is interested in the magazine, drop a reply to this comment, maybe we can make it happen. Just explain to me your connection to Jill. Or if you just have an interesting reply in general, I'd love to hear it. God bless!

A lot depends on circumstances, money, health insurance, therapy, assisted living programs, nursing homes, etc. Jill's family luckily had the money and means to take care of her. I wish more families had the means to take care of their loved ones. I know it's been a year and I hope that you and your family have had a chance to cope, perhaps talk to a therapist, etc support group. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Great movie, but I thought I was tuning in to see The Other Side of Midnight. I remember now that that is what it is called because this movie certainly is not it. I have seen this movie 3 times over the years - Not watching it again - it will make me tear up and feel emotions I don't want to feel right now.
On the other hand, The Other Side of Midnight is intrigue, and sinister things involving a love triangle. It is from a book written by Sidney Sheldon that I struggled through when I was much younger, his writing style is cumbersome to me, so I really enjoyed the movie even though it is different, of course & as always, from the book.
I've got to look it up now, and see if I can find it on RUclips. Try to find it yourself it's a good book and movie. It is something at which & about which I can safely rail right now without killing someone and going to prison...lol

I was hit by a car and had a fracture C5-7. I was not paralyzed. My recovery was difficult and took a year. I still have some effects but in seeing this it could have been much worse. My spinal cord was not affected.

@@amydrigun4948 Well..I wasn't sure who she meant. I know that Buddy left her. But, Dick also left her. Dick had all intentions of returning..but he did leave Jill for a time. So..I wasn't sure if she meant Buddy..who left her forever..or Dick who left her for a time..even though he died & never did come back anyway.

Before my third surgery on my spine they turned me over like Jill they didn’t know I was awake. And I couldn’t move at all. It’s a frightening situation to go through. They finally put me to sleep and fused me cervical spine again.

The jack at UCLA needs to get a life. Jill was amazing in this movie.and became a qualified teacher. She showed the jerk that she could find a school to accept her as a teacher.

I thought it was sooooo selfish of Mad Dog to leave that day when she begged him not to...because she had a strange feeling he would die.

@@denisequinn9015 Mad Dog was good to her, making sure she was the best she could be all along. The other guy... Not so much. Loser.
That's the thing, you see it ALL THE TIME, MOST MEN, though they say they Love a woman.... won't stick around for her or anyone else in his family and DO the caregiving duties..... No, that's what happens most of the time, it's the women who do ALL of the hands on caregiving duties... of the babies to the elders. So when that guy split, no big surprise. It's a rare MAN who can look death and sickness in the eye and say I'm going to step up to the plate here and help my family, because it's THE RIGHT THING TO DO (not to run off and abandon his family obligations).
Do I sound bitter? Sorry. I've seen to much of that.

@@denisequinn9015 Buddy was a jerk for leaving her, yes. But I believe that Mad Dog's intent was to push Jill to reach further, to attempt things. If everyone waited on her, hand and foot, she wouldn't have to try. Did you ever learn how to ride a bike, or is Daddy still hanging onto your seat?
