    Thank you for taking your time to review our stones with such care. We really appreciate it. One thing I could mention is that the Stage is hard coated like a frying pan. You can get it super dirty and it will rinse clean like new. The hard coat adds a lot cost the product. It’s also not something that jumps out but the new posts on the Stage highly engineered. I spent more time on them than any other aspect of the system. You probably won’t notice unless you compare them to my older designs. We are giving free upgrades to anyone who has the older design posts. Thanks again
    Hap

      Wow! I appreciate you checking in on the video and I'll definitely go through my social media and pass on that information. Thank you for checking us out. I look forward to using some of your other products. I'm really interested in your diamond bonded products. I want to compare them to some other people who are trying to make a move in that particular category. I don't know if it anytime you would be interested in sponsoring the video with gifting the product. These videos, as you know, can become quite expensive. One of your distributors was kind enough to let me have the stones for review. I'm excited about working with your products in the future. I'm especially excited about using the strop that you created at some point. God bless and keep doing great work.

    Looks like a very well thought out system, high quality too. I'm definitely going to keep these stones in mind going forward. Thanks for the demonstration, I hadn't heard of them before.

      Yes you do! There are other systems that work great. We can all make a sharp knife with good technique if we have some pretty decent stones. Happy new year!

    Some people say "Nano Hone is expensive." I don't think so. Because not only is it an high quality whetstone, but the aluminum backing plate is reusable.

      You’re correct! They are not expensive. They’re in line. The backing is amazing. I don’t know about the wear and tear but it’s a good product. I do not think that they’re expensive

    It is difficult to evaluate the load up on the stone with all the mud on it. To be fair, before you clean the stone with the cleaner you should wash it and show how the stone is clogged (or clean) right after the sharpening. In this way, we can assess the real load up on the stone.

    • @nadm
      @nadm  3 года назад +1

      I appreciate your input. I always love constructive comments. When I comment on the load up, I was commenting on how I could tell that it didn't feel like it was cutting anymore. I don't mind the mud but if I feel like nothing is happening then I make a comment. I might have to make a video just on that one topic. Thank you for your support. I'm sorry it took a moment to get back to you.

    I've been sharpening for many years and decided to give the hand switch a try. I've been trying the left handed sharpening and I just struggle to maintain the same angle. Going to keep trying on some cheaper knives.

    • @nadm
      @nadm  2 года назад

      Good luck. I know you’ll get it. It just takes a minute. It took me a minute to figure out a really steady way to hold it. I ended up putting my finger down the spine. Take your time. You’re already a great Carpenter and so you have a way of getting your knife sharp. Good luck and God bless!

    • @JeffSmith-eq3kc
      @JeffSmith-eq3kc 2 года назад +1

      @@nadm thanks. Exactly what I'm struggling with is the grip with the left hand. Trying to find the right feel where I'm just guiding like it is right handed. I've got an assortment (obsession) of more artisan Japanese knives but have been practicing with a Shun Classic 6" chef's knife. My wife's favorite knife of course. Easy short knife and simple profile just feels very awkward.

    • @nadm
      @nadm  2 года назад

      @@JeffSmith-eq3kc I just find that getting the same angle can be difficult at first. You're going to be able to do it but you end up either too flat or too high on the other side. All things in time!

    Hello, I would like to know your general opinion on what is the difference between shapton glass stone and nano hone stone besides design? I have glass stone 500HR/2000HR/6000HC I really liked the 500 stone, now I want to buy 400, 1000 and maybe 3000 nano hone. I have a masakage shimo, Murray Carter perfect kitchen knife, and Aritsugu gyuto semi stainless steel. nano hone will handle these good knives without problems, but how will they sharpen 55-57 Rockwell stainless steel knives?

    • @nadm
      @nadm  9 месяцев назад

      So the same man created both lines. Hap Stanley left Shapton to go over and create Nano Hone. Is Cole with Nano Hone was to be precise with all the particle sizes being uniform. He was upset that Shopton was a bit more aggressive than the size of the great that they were telling you. A 1000 stone seems like a 800 grit or maybe even a 600 hundred. The shapton feels amazing because they give you a lot of feedback, but at the same time they're more aggressive

  • @georgeyoung4292
    @georgeyoung4292 2 года назад +1

    It is Alox just like the vast majority of stones.. SiC stone exist but they are not universal (if you use them on softer steel ,ironically they will wear down 3times faster).. They seem great but everything from Nanohone is 20-25% expansive than competitors but for me price is subjective value cause i consider only PRICE/PERFORMANCE value and since i didnt use these i cant say and considering the stones were send to you from manufacturer/vendor its not unbias.. Thank you for video sir🙏

      I appreciate your comment. I'll tell you that it truly is unbiased. I get what you're saying. I have too many stones to not tell you the truth. I think you can hear that they're up there. They're very nice in several ways. One, I very much like the packaging. A lot of companies do a good job. I don't like how playing the boxes are but they're packaged to not be damaged. Two, you can just tell there's a certain level of quality and care. The metal backing is something that is quite luxurious and does not feel cheap. It has a lot of weight to it and it fits the stone stage precisely. I don't necessarily think that they performed better than some of the other stones that are a little cheaper. I think there was a lot of thought in the overall idea. The Stone stage Waze a lot. It's quite significant. It's an entire system and that's what I was mostly commenting on. I think the Shapton stones are amazing. These stones are going to get their chance in my whetstone wars series. We have a new whetstone wars coming out this weekend. I let the product speak for itself. I always at least try to tell you where everything comes from so you understand. Also they did not come from the manufacturer, they came from the distributor who carries other items. If you had the stones that I know you would've agreed with the assessment. I'm not really concerned about whether or not people think that they're great because they actually are. I've used bad stones and these were pleasantly surprising. I do wish they were may be color-coded on top or had some difference because it became boring to look at overtime. The color-coded back really added something to it. It will also be interesting to see how they were down. I do try to let you guys be a part of the entire process. I'll tell you what's going on and I open them in front of year. You get to see my face and what I think as it's happening. I don't stage anything. Sometimes my wife thinks I like enthusiasm on certain items. Sometimes I do like enthusiasm on certain items because that's just how they make me feel. I try to make you a part of the process.

      @@nadm I believe you🙏 And the quality is absolutely obvious... I would definitely invest in these if i could get them in the country where i am located curently.. I also said that slight increase in price doesnt mean anything cause in the end of the day that stone will last me many many years.. The aluminium backing is beautifully machined and anodized so i know where the increase cost went🙏 PS: In the end when you was cutting the paper towel, i think you still had a microburr🙏😉 Thank you sir👍🙏

    How's the nano hone 6000 compare to Arashiyama 6000 or Suehiro shiramine 6000 or 8000 that you tried?? I'm looking for a new 6000-8000 grit polishing whetstone for my Aogami 2 Yanagiba.

    • @nadm
      @nadm  2 года назад

      We are slowly doing all of those comparisons. That herhero that you named is not one that I own. I do I do on the other ones. Those are coming up in the different whetstone wars. I will say that the Arashiyama brand tends to be muddier and a little softer. That’s great for polishing and you have a little bit more time to sharpen. It’s a little bit less aggressive but turns out amazing

    Any thoughts on how the stones differ from Shapton? Harder, softer?

    • @nadm
      @nadm  2 года назад +1

      It would depend on the line you’re referring to for Shapton. I think the Shapton glass can be pretty hard. They’re just so quiet. They’re all colored the same in the stones powder so you can’t differentiate one from the other. They don’t even really sound different. Only the plates makes you feel like they’re different. The kuromaku Line is probably the same hardness is this one. I think the glass is a little harder

      You'll see some whetstone wars that we just did and they won. I think the 10,000 grit is impressive but the 200 grit performed really well. I think 1000 did what I normally think 1000 would do

    You contaminated Every stone with the previous stones by using the diamond plate without washing it off clean every time. Do you think the knife could have been sharper if you would have cleaned your flattening slurry off of the stone first???

    • @nadm
      @nadm  2 года назад +1

      I understand your point but I can honestly say that that did not happen. The amount of material that I removed did not leave any of the material from the previous stone. It was a significant slurry buildup on the stone when I removed the lines. You and I are like-minded people. And I like what you’re thinking. I definitely do not believe that that happened. The slurry was abundant from the material that I took off. If you’ve seen any of my videos you know that I get the knives extremely sharp. I actually challenge most people to get them a sharp as I get them. You even see me wiping the night falls and between stones to make sure I do not carry the slurry over onto the next stone. I think you have a good eye. I just truly believe it that did not do anything to contribute to lessening the performance of what we did.
