      The 2015 disc is missing a commentary from the Skynet Edition, but according to the blu-ray.com forums it is on the Canadian steelbook edition from Mondo. This guy gets a few things wrong. Aladdin was hand drawn, but it was NOT hand coloured. Aladdin is a 100% digital colour job, always has been. It’s called CAPS. Also, the blu ray for the “Sky Net” edition of T2 is just terrible. The 4K isn’t anything to write home about either but the blu ray is awful. It’s a compression nightmare, with 3 cuts of the same movie on a single disc. Honestly for me T2 has yet to get a good release on high def or 4K. The Last Jedi was filmed with both digital and, well, “film”. It looks great on 4K.

      If 4K Blu-ray was all about "corporate greed", then 4K discs would no longer be available. 4K Blu-ray doesn't generate much revenue, for the studios. I'm very thankful physical media is still an option. Besides, the studios have already been paid for ALL their discs ordered by retailers (from their distributors). Even if a disc doesn't sell, the studio has already been paid. It's the retailer that takes the loss.

    Totally disagree with a couple on here! Gremlins was a great upgrade visually. You can see the pores on faces in some scenes, not that you want to, but definitely better clarity and the HDR makes quite a substantial difference. It’s night and day, I’m sure someone even with a budget set up could see that there is an improvement. So anyone out there wondering if it’s worth the upgrade... yes it’s definitely an upgrade visually! You won’t be using the mediocre Blu-ray transfer again! Disagree with Aladdin too, the corrected ratio means we finally get the full picture as intended and the HDR doesn’t make much of a difference from the regular Blu-ray, which is no bad thing, but eliminates banding altogether and other picture issues etc, it’s definitely more of a solid picture. The one major downside is the horrendous Atmos track, which is flat and non existent! The original 5.1 track beats it hands down!

    • @timramich
      @timramich 3 года назад

      Disney Plus HDR is not what the industry calls "HDR10." It's still bt.2020 and 10 bits, so that's why they're calling it HDR, and rightly so. 10 bits offers better dynamic range and the wider color space does too. "HDR10" adds metadata that tells the minimum darkness and maximum brightness of the picture. That's all it is.

    • @timramich
      @timramich 3 года назад

      And when it comes to discs, you won't find bt.2020 without the HDR10 flags. It's either real HDR10 or SDR bt.709 (Bad Santa 2). I don't know why, as there is no spec saying they can't be bt.2020 without HDR10. That's what makes the Disney Plus content kind of bastardized.

    I have almost every title you discuss here. At the end of the day the only person they need to please is me. I don't labor so much over the decision. If there is title I want that is out on Blu Ray and 4K I will buy the 4K without even thinking too much about it. If it is a title I already have on Blu Ray then the only consideration I give is how many times I think I will watch it in the next year...or the next 3 or 5 years. A movie I watch a lot will get a buy. I can appreciate your position about not supporting bad releases. But I'm not with you on that one. For starters, one man's pleasure is another man's pain. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean others won't. Second, I'm 62 years old and have no interest in letting people I don't know decide for me what is worthy of my money. I'm too old to deny myself one of life's few simple pleasures, and if I make a poor choice on a 4K UHD title then it isn't the end of the world. But so far I don't have any regrets.

      I absolutely agree. Gremlins is very good. No way it's a Blu-Ray transfer put on UHD. Also, the grading is very good, with nice, nuanced and saturated colors, with very good luminance (typical of HDR). For the resolution, just look at these comparison: caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=13418&d2=13417&s1=134480&s2=134466&i=0&l=0
      The video master they used for UHD is a new one for sure.
