The Richard Prior reference is a call back to RP lighting himself on fire accidentally/ tragically/ & in the end inspiring some brilliant personal comedy.
Yeah, set himself on fire while freebasing cocaine. One of several near death experiences that he would turn into hilarious parts of his standup routine
I always appreciated that his instinct was to help the burning waiter - it demonstrated that deep down, there was still a decent person who could yet turn it all around.
The guy that played Frank's brother is Bill Murraay's real life brother John Murray. The man that played Frank's father is his eldest brother Brian Doyle Murray, and the heavy set guy at the party at Frank's brother's house is his brother Joel Murray.
@@stephsoohall6841 9 all together, if you count Bill. He has 8 siblings: Brian Doyal Murray, Joel Murray, John Murray, Nancy Murray, Edward Murray III, Peggy Murray, Laura Murray, and Andy Murray.
Scrooged was nominated for an Oscar for best makeup because of those awesome costumes (the boss in the beginning, the ghost of Christmas future, etc). 👍
I'm pretty sure the guy that got fired and had the shotgun is Bobcat Goldthwait. A famous comedian who is known for his crazy voice, and his super strange comedy, his odd point of view, and his outbursts. He was really funny, and he looked super cleaned up and normal in the movie, which is not normal for him at all.
LMAO ok so Lee Majors was the original Six Million Dollar Man, as well as starring in a few other shows including "The Fall Guy" fun show from the 80's in the vein of The A-Team, Dukes of Hazard and Rockford Files. As always great reaction!
Thanks for doing this guys. And, yes, the Danny Elfman music is stellar. When Christmastime comes around, I still find myself humming the creepy "fa-la la-la la-la la-la ... " and its 30 years later.
3:54 "It reminds me (of the guy who wrote the music for Scrooged)." Danny Elfman is, in fact, the composer for both this movie and Nightmare Before Christmas!
I remember seeing this when I was a kid with my family and watching that final monolog and being amazed by how emotional a performance Bill Murray gave. At that time of my life this was the 1st time I saw him do a more dramatic performance if even for a just one scene. It really makes me appreciate his more emotional performances in the work he did after this point.
The street carolers that Frank chastises ("Great, rip off the hicks, why don'tcha. What, did you learn this song yesterday?") were led by Late Show band leader Paul Schaffer and consisted of jazz greats Miles Davis, Larry Carlton, and David Sanborn. I love this movie so much, so many quotable lines. I hope you guys and the orange shirt have a very Merry Christmas 🎄
21:36 was actually just Bill Murray slipping and falling by accident; he wanted it left in the scene to emphasize his character losing it Also his father is played by his brother Brian Doyle Murray, which is brilliant

You shouldn’t be surprised by the creepy opening music as it was composed by Danny Elfman who composed pretty much all of Tim Burton’s movies, including The Nightmare Before Christmas. 😂👍
This film was a family project for Bill Murray. One brother, Brian-Doyle, played his father. Another brother, John, played his brother (the role he was born to play), and yet another brother, Joel, played a guest at his brother's party.
Visiting the parents, eating great food and drinking wine watching OctoKrool react to Scrooged is a great way to start the holiday! Merry Christmas guys!! I hope it's a very happy one!🎄💙💙
My favorite joke in this movie is the banner hanging up in Bill Murray’s office which is a definition of the word cross:noun/ something they nail people to.😂😂😂
Always been one of my favorite Christmas movies. The realness in this movie showing different walks of life and how choices mold what outcomes are for not just yourself but those around us. The ending speech, no matter how many times I’ve seen this movies brings a tear to my eyes.
The Pichard pryor reference in the movie when he dowsed the waiter in water was about this incident. On June 9, in 1980, comedian Richard Pryor set himself on fire while free-basing cocaine and drinking 151-proof rum. Pryor ran down his street in Northridge, Calif., until subdued by police. His daughter said her father was in a drug-induced psychosis and poured rum over his body and set himself on fire.
Richard Pryor later talked about the incident. "I believe the angel Gabriel went up to God and said, "God, Richard's on fire." And God said, "Well put him out." And Gabriel said, "We can't catch him.""
The opening is epic you guys rock I'm so entertained by you and I love both of you I hope you have a great Christmas and your mom makes you some really good cookies.
The guy with the crazy voice is Bobcat Goldthwait; you should check out his standup specials and the film "One Crazy Summer". He was also the voice of Pain in Disney's Hercules.
Great movie and great reaction. Looks like everyone has answered any questions u had about the movie. Like bobcat being Elliot and Elfmans score. One Fact u may not know is the director and Murray didn't see eye to eye about the tone. Donor wanted more over the top and Bill didn't so thats why he acts kinda normal and then just get all crazy in other parts. But still one of my favorites for the holiday cause I love the darkness!! This, nightmare before Christmas and Christmas vacation are my holiday go toos!
To answer your question because Richard Pryor accidentally set himself on fire and went running down the street screaming if you watch his stand-up when he later recovered he did a joke About It by lighting a match
"Why would you think he was Richard Pryor?" Richard Pryor was doing drugs and lighted himself ablaze, suffered serious burns, then he got sober, got his life together and died. (fixed spelling Richard Pryor's name, thanks shercahn)
he told the greatest joke about it, he would light a match and move it around frantically and say "what is this ?, richard pryor running down the street.."
When Bill slipped after throwing the bucket of water on the waiter, that wasn't planned, he really slipped. When Carol Kane (Ghost of Christmas Present) grabbed Bill Murray's lip she accidentally tore it bad and it needed stitches. When Bill hit Alfre Woodard (Grace) when he saw the "Ghost of Christmas Future" in the elevator, that also was an accident, Bill really hit her. Richard Donner is the director of this movie. He's also directed The Omen, The Goonies, Superman (1978) and all the Lethal Weapon movies. At the age of 90, he was planning on directing Lethal Weapon 5, but sadly he passed away this year.

There were three Murray brothers in this movie. His real older brother portrayed his father and real life younger brother portraying his younger brother. Remember that at the time of this movie Bill Murray was super popular. This was a retelling of “A Christmas Carol”. Which is dark anyway.
Richard Pryor set himself on fire in a drug-induced accident, which formed his personal 'rock bottom' and inspired his hard road to addiction recovery. He was quite public about the incident, and of course suffered many jokes at his expense over it, but it was a major turning point in his life and career -- to the positive. He even made a movie about his struggle, called "Jojo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling."
