I don't understand why people thumbs down. If you don't like just skip it. I love this video, in my opinion your very helpful I appreciate it! So, do many thousands more.
I recently started using a bullet journal (and now planner!) and I was a bit discouraged because my handwriting and doodles are not great at all lol I never thought about setting a topic and doodling based on it. I feel much better now and will try again using the tips you provided. Your video was so helpful! Thank you! =)
chronicfish I hold my pen like this also. I have a very tight grip and the knuckle serves as a way to steady the pen. It brings me joy to see someone else with the same unusual pen holding style.
I really appreciate this video... I did start trying to "draw" using your suggestions. What helped me the most was putting into practice what you called your own "style" of illustration. It took the pressure off and I realized that not only do I have my own style, but I can actually draw some pretty decent little "pictures." ;) So thank you so much. :D
I am an occupational therapist and i can't stop staring at your grasp. Still loved your video, i am thinking of starting a bullet journal and it was helpful! Have a nice day!
I've always had a hard time trying to find an illustrative style, and I always go to photorealistic because styles are so hard, and this actually makes sense rather than the "just draw everyday and it'll come to you"
Thank you for sharing your techniques. I enjoy illustrating. I would image over time my lines will look more confident, not so wiggly. Do you find holding your pen, marker, etc...a certain way helps steady your hand? Thanks.
Hi Shayda, so I think i started about 2 hours ago with one video through a search. Well i ended up watching a lot of videos! I'm in love with them! you explain everything so well! Thank you sooo much for the videos! I'll definitively be following more and more!
I follow you on Instagram and I was watching watercolor videos and your name popped up.. I said, "hey! I know her!" lol I'm so glad I found your RUclips!
So fun watching you. And your ring. I couldn't tell if your diamond set is the exact same as mine or not. I wish I could post a picture so you can see the similarities. That's when I knew we had to be friends. 😂
thanks so much for responding to my question--today everything is working!of course, I watched your video first and it was worth waiting for! I really like your illustration style.
Even tho I've never specifically focused on illiterative art you have given me some intresting alternatives to not staying in the lines and be more sporadic 💕
I really like your videos and drawings, and your style of drawing, really pretty! Everytime after I see one of your videos I get my pen and paper to do some drawing myself! X Christy.
I like drawing, I was thinking about ilustrating my boyfriends novel, but I didn´t tried it yet and your video pushed me to try it ;-) And about the plant in your "instagram must have" picture, it is "monstera". We have it at home in a pot. Despite its name it is nice big plant.
Oh my GOD I've finally found someone that hold their pens like I do!!! Do you have a big callus there on your ring finger??? I'm SO EXCITED (can you tell how much of a nerd that makes me?)!
You guysssss! I hold my pens and pencils like this and yes - I have that damn callus! Holding my pen like this really steadies my hand and makes my writing so night. Resting the pen on my middle fingers cranks my hand in a such a weird way
This is the first video I have watched from you and already through the first minutes I am subscribed! You are an amazing artist and for me I am so inspired by your illustrations and really want to watch more! I think that I watch so other youtubers who are obviously very good but I think you have helped me a lot! Btw my favourite breakfast is avocado, egg and toast!! 😋😋😋
I am so glad I found your channel! I have been absolutely obsessed with hand lettering and illustrating lately! I feel like your style is dead on to what I try to go for, you are just way better at it 😂 But I'll get there 😊 and Iceland?!?!?!??! How awesome. I just read "The Merman" it is set in Iceland. It is a bit darker than I thought it was going to be, but still a good book if you like to read! 😊😊😊
Shayda! I've just discovered your work and am having a blast following along with your tutorials. I would love to see some kid-friendly illustration tips. I write for kids and would love to make some bookplates. Any chance you could cover dinosaurs, fantasy animals (dragons, unicorns, etc.) and maybe dogs, cats, farm animals some time in the future? Thanks for sharing your work. Cheers, Amy
I love your style and the way you educate! Super patient, I was wondering how did you come up with different styles, what inspires you and how long did it take you to discover your style?
Thank you for this great video, it really helped me to pluck up courage to go on with my own creative work. :) I think the leaf you draw is one of a "monstera deliciosa", also called "windowleaf" ;) I have one in my living room. :)
Thank you for a fun and encouraging video! I've never thought I could draw, but this video makes me think its worth a try :-) I love the groupings/topic idea of similar items on one page. I am curious though.... You mention "Instagram must-haves" ... can you explain what you mean by that? Thanks :-)
I love your way of holding pen. I thought I would try, and for me I can draw way easier that way. My mom always stressed on this proper way of holding pencil, and I mean it works for her, but for some reason it just never worked for me other than writing, probably cause I have a bump on my middle finger.

Yes, I have already
i love how simple and casual you can make your drawings and it's perfectly imperfect! when i do it, it looks like a five year old did it!
dreamxpaili I draw the same way I have a really strong grip so the pencil does not move I have really shaky hands so that's why I do it
dreamxpa
It all seem so simple.....until you actually tried it out

that is the most unique way of holding a pen to draw, that I've ever seen ... just fascinating!
chronicfish i hold my pens the same exact way .... not sure why
chronicfish I hold my pen like this also. I have a very tight grip and the knuckle serves as a way to steady the pen. It brings me joy to see someone else with the same unusual pen holding style.
Ι find it cute.. I could never hold a pencil like that.. my hand would cramp up for sure.. but I find it cute :P
chronicfish I hold my pen that way too haha, except I think it's caused a callus
I also hold my pens this way and I have since I started writing and I have a gnarly writers callus!

Have a nice day!
We write/draw in the same way!! You're the first person I've ever seen who does the same!
...the best tip is to have fun. simple but sooo important. Thank you!!!
I've always had a hard time trying to find an illustrative style, and I always go to photorealistic because styles are so hard, and this actually makes sense rather than the "just draw everyday and it'll come to you"
I love how you say "House"
also "out"
ninana97 Canadian, eh

everytime she said a word with "ou" in it I would smile hahahaha sounds so cool
Thank you for sharing your techniques. I enjoy illustrating. I would image over time my lines will look more confident, not so wiggly. Do you find holding your pen, marker, etc...a certain way helps steady your hand? Thanks.

Thank you for a fun and encouraging video! I've never thought I could draw, but this video makes me think its worth a try :-) I love the groupings/topic idea of similar items on one page.

+Deborah Rose Thanks! I hope you will give it a try; the groupings are super fun to work on!

That leaf you were looking for a name of is called "Monstera" in the floral trade. I love your videos. Thanks for doing them :D
This is perfect!
I love your way of holding pen. I thought I would try, and for me I can draw way easier that way. My mom always stressed on this proper way of holding pencil, and I mean it works for her, but for some reason it just never worked for me other than writing, probably cause I have a bump on my middle finger.
Catherine OAO it's a callus, everyone who writes has one on the finger that receives the friction
Renee is awesome
Yeah I used to hold my pencils quite firm.
Catherine OAO i hold my pencils and pens like she does
