Coast Guard Station Maui crew recall response to 2023 Lahaina wildfire

- On August 8, 2023, a wildfire destroyed approximately 80% of Lahaina.
This is the story of the Coast Guard Station Maui members who heroically responded to help their community that evening, rescuing 17 people from the water and working with partner agencies to assist many more.
Station crew members launched to Lahaina harbor where 100 people were reported having entered the water to escape the fires.
Through the blinding smoke and burning debris, these Coast Guard men and women put their lives at risk to save others.
