@@victorlolo2008 which one do you use? I’m pretty sure by dtap should give up to 150watts so it should he enough. It did work for 10 minutes and didn’t feel hot. I think it’s more so the adapter.
I'd look into good charger brands such as Anker for a true 100w power solution both wired and battery usage. They do have some brick sized powerbanks that can provide 100w PD output. I've been looking into how to power this light too as I just order it.
@6:23 THANK YOU for answering and confirming the D-Tip question. I was hoping I can go 100% if I can go to D-tip with the VB155.. But since you confirm it... thank you for saving time for me researching the d-tip answer.
Crazy I was thinking lately about a b roll I saw long time ago about the airport and solo challenge. But I couldn’t think about who made those video’s lucky i found you again in my subscription list. Hope you are doing well
Oh wow! That’s one of my OG videos! Which makes you one of my OG subscribers! Thanks so much for that! Been a journey on this platform. Looking forward to what I can create for you in the future! 🙏🤜
What would be really good for these batteries instead of giving us percentages is remaining time (at the current power level). That's all we really care about, an LED light is useful, a percentage is useful, but in our minds we're all just trying to estimate how much time we have left. It doesn't sound like the hardest thing for a battery to calculate, its fine being an estimate and not spot on accurate. I note Smallrig to a smaller battery, I have the Golus 60W, would this be enough?
Have you thought about maybe using a 3 prong to D Tap adapter? That way you can use the Power adapter the light comes with to the battery instead of trying to find a unique DC cable
@6:55 About sales. I got my VB155 battery for $227.40 over at Adorama. When it was the sale of the day back in late June... I totally grab it as soon I saw the price for it.
Solid info here haha. Can’t say I am pure USB-C but even after your own advice with the 60 W light, man, turned out so helpful. Maybe one day, a battery like this will be justified in my kit hah
Haha you know my entire life revolves around batteries now. 😁 V-Mount batteries are so versatile. Makes you want to also rig out your camera, so careful! 😂😂😂
Good review. When you use the smallrig battery, is it directly connect to the Molus x100, and not the battery of Molus X100, right? Do you still connect the battery of Molus X100 when using this Smallrig battery?
Hi @SePark , in case of those wedding examples, have you used any type of diffusion accessory (softbox / dome) or just the reflective cone that comes in the kit? Thank you!
I'm back again to this video. To ever who see this in time. As I'm typing this. B&H is having a one day sale on this SmallRig VB155 V-Mount Battery for $229.
I have this light and the best solution I've found is a 100W PD power bank. The one i have is 20000 mah and the best part is that I can power the light at full brightness. I buy the power banks here in South Africa for about 55 USD.
@@SePark Haven't really done tests but the power pack that comes with the X100 is 26000 mAh so theoretically, a 20000 mAh powerbank will do 76% of whatever time the power pack can do. Haven't really thought about mounting. I just have a really long USB-C cable and put my powerbank on the ground.
@@bsv_za thanks for sharing that info. When I did the official test, the included X100 battery lasted 30 min at full power and 1 hr and 46 min at 30% power. For the shoots I am doing that was nowhere near enough. Don’t get me wrong that’s super useful for run and gun short shoots. I had to go above 100 wH for my needs.
@@SePark Sure. I suppose there are pros and cons to both solutions. For the price of your V-Mount battery, I can buy almost 7 of my powerbanks. That's a combined 518 wH. Pros: I can run at full brightness for a reasonable amount of time. Cons: the inconvenience of managing that many powerbanks whereas you'd need fewer of the V-Mounts to achieve the same wH's.
I really like this light but supplied batteries stop work after 2 shoots, it did not charge or on , now I have changed 3 battries but all end up dead within few shoots. And their customer service is not very helpful in my experience.
@4:46 I also own a Molus x100 for my wedding stuff. And I got a question in that time marker. What mod were you using when you had it at 27% power. And how far was that back light from the subject?? Also, if you used the Molus x100 as your key light in that time marker. What power percentage were you at and what mod did you have on?
Hi Ronald, I used the small reflector without any soft dome for that back light. Subject is probably about 25 ft from the light. The key lights are actually Godox LC30 but the DJ light is also serving as the key light. Hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching!
I watched your video, and you've made me reconsider my decision to purchase an additional Molus x100 battery. So I purchased the SmallRig VB99 battery and connected it to the Molus x100 light using a USB-C cable. The newly purchased battery was charged at 51%, and the Molus was delivering a maximum power of 18W, which is 19% of its potential. Why is this the case? Do I need to buy a D-TAP to USB cable to get 100% power? Please let me know. Thank you!
Check the USB-C cable. some are rated differently. I want to assume your cable is maxed out / only made for to go at 20watts, therefore. You're only going at 20% of what the Molus x100 can do. The SmallRig batteries when connected to a USB-C cable that is rated at 100w. Can only go at 65%. Because of how it's designed. I'm about to make another comment on this page about what I learned. I recenlty bought the Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K), 24,000mAh 3-Port Portable Charger with 140W Output when it was on sale for $100. I do have to say.. DAMN!!! this probably puts the SmallRig v-mount battery into shame. I just did two test runs with that battery with my x100 at 100% / 100watts. That battery can go on for 45minutes. Yet on my first run, the battery glitched on me at the 16 minute mark, saying low voltage??? wtf. But I still got it to run 45minutes straight at 100% power with the Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K), 24,000mAh 3-Port Portable Charger with 140W Output.
Thanks for the security tip.. almost bought a random cheap 100w thing.. what other batteries did you consider? Apart from the low battery life my main issue with the X100 is the poor Bowens adapter. It feels cheap, and non-sturdy and the knobs are all poorly designed. and lastly not all of my standard Bowens modifiers will actually fit, its like they designed it too tight.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I considered Anker 737 but I really wanted the secure mounting mechanism. Like you described, you don’t want any fuss when setting up lights fast. I haven’t had any bowens mount not fitting on my X100 adapter but I know what you mean by the knobs. Compared to the weight that gets distributed and torque required, it’s too small. Hoping Zhiyun expands on more light accessories for the X100. I’ll provide some feedback to them. Thanks!
Se: Another useful video, thank you. Have you had any problems with the 100 watt power brick you bought for this light and you showed in a previous video? I ask because I bought that setup and have only used it once (with no problems) but I know you use the stuff more than I do. Also, do you know of a more compact AC setup for the Zhiyun 100 watt Fiveray wand light? I wish they made that with detachable batteries, but that AC adapter they include is huge and unwieldy. Wondering if you have an alternative for that light? Thanks!
Hi Bob, thanks for the comment. I have been using the 100 Watt version of the Tecknet USB-C AC power supply for awhile now. When I record these RUclips videos, that’s what’s powering my lights. Believe it or not I do multiple takes and takes hours 😅 Power brick is still working and going. Although I rarely use it at 100% power, I did test it for 2 hr straight. One thing to note now that it’s summer, I’m noticing that the power supply does run very warm at 100% power. It’s expected but I would not leave it unattended at full power. This power supply can also charge the Fiveray stick lights. I despise large power supplies with equipment that’s supposed to be portable 😁
