Hi I have this bike and I ride in rough and I have no problems with it, But you can actually run 29" wheels on this bike, I think for you and what your describing a good thing you could have done was get a 120mm fork for a 29" wheel and put a 29" wheel up front and this would have combated two things you disliked about the bike, It would roll over the rocky stuff much more easy and it will raise the pedals up a bit for less pedal strikes... another words make it a mullet and then later on if you wanted you could have put a 29" wheel out back also but I don't think you would need to with a mullet set up. Hope this helps.
100% spot on! If I were to do it again I would have stuck with 120mm fork and did the 29 wheel swap. I’ve seen people swap it over to 29er, I learned about that AFTER I installed the 140mm fork. I know that the rough stuff I struggle with mostly comes down to my riding ability🤣 I think with a 29er I would have had a better chance rolling over the rough stuff, especially with my size since I am a bigger guy!
@@GregsGarage21 Hi you know with most forks you can take them apart and move a spacer inside to change the travel of them? my Xfusion fork I can change from 80 to 140mm travel by moving the spacer and spacer clip holder... check into it for your fork. also what rear shock did you use on it? I tried upgrading to a rockshox monarch RL and it felt worse than my stock one but I have other bikes with coil rear shocks and I think i am getting one of those for my D5 I think coils work much better than air ones especially on bumpy surfaces there's no comparison to the slow non responsive air shocks.
@@PHFishingBiking interesting, I didn’t realize that I’ll have check into that forsure!! Even with these dislikes, I still think this is a really good bike for someone like myself and my riding a bailout. Just need some little adjustments and more seat time too
I'm riding a D7, also 27.5, but I'm on a size small so I didn't have a choice...the best advice I can offer for skinnies...is don't look at them, look into the distance. If you watch the front wheel, you'll never make it across! As far as rock gardens and well most features, speed helps, just watch your body position, too far forward and not enough speed is sure fire way to go OTB!
"29 wheels are fast, but they can a bit unwieldy on tight corners. At least I feel more confident with 26-27.5. That said, I always try to enjoy whatever I'm riding.
Hey dude thanks for the review. Where do you live? Those trails look super awesome. Looking to get my first bike. I’m so stuck between the D5, D7, T6, T7. Like since I’m dropping nearly a grand, should I just get the D7 or T7? I want to be able to enjoy trails. I’m 41 so I most likely won’t be going super fast or jumping. I’m just starting out. It’s like I’m paying a grand, might as well spend a little extra. But concerned about messing up the bike. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the support!! I’m located just outside of Bakersfield, Ca but do riding all over SoCal Trails like Greer and Skypark as well! As for the bikes, I would definitely recommend the T series. They came out with that new T6, which looks like an AWESOME first time bike! The D7 is a great bike from what I’ve seen, but I think you’ll run into limitations on the D series eventually. Personally, I’ll never need more than the D series. BUT, since this video, I’ve upgraded bikes to bigger suspension & geared more towards trail / chunk / jumps. I found that if I ever find myself on a trail with a challenging feature, in my head I know I got the bike for it, now it just comes down to rider ability LOL. People say you’ll loose climbing efficiency but from what I’ve experienced, climbing is climbing and there isn’t to much to make that better, except and Ebike 😂 I definitely recommend getting into the T6 or even the T7! Bikesonline is always running killer sales, so if you do make that decision, check out my link pinned to this video or in the description and get yourself a killer ride! Happy riding my friend!
I really wish this bike came in a 29, as I’ve found that I like the 29er better. But the 27.5 is still actually really fun to ride, ride this bike not too long ago and it’s playful! All rider preference! The large felt a little small to me, I don’t remember what the sizing is but I would almost look and see maybe if the XL would be a better fit. Either way, enjoy the new bike!
If your having trouble then upgrade to a better bike the polygon D6 or D7 are the better ones with better specs but if there not enough even the T8 or T7 are great with even more travel and specs but there expensive
I use slip on gloves from the company SixSixOne. Super lightweight , comfortable and durable! Been using them for a few years now and they’ve been awesome

It’s pretty cheap for a dual suspension it’s not the best specs so just change it up with air forks or rock shocks.

The D-5 is not the beginner, it’s the beginning….of spending on upgrades.
Trust me, I’ve done it.
It’s the beginning to a long road full of upgrading parts and financial mistakes!😂
