Watching him start to cry when he hears the FF4 music is hard proof that video games are, have been, and always will be, art. A story that can bring you to tears years later with the wonderful weight of the memories is a beautiful thing.
Everyone who play FF 4, I cry from happiness. Literally I spend 10 mim after getting to the next quest. I can describe how this impact me after getting there, specially at that time i was not feeling well.
FF is such a special franchise, and part of what makes 14 even moreso is BECAUSE of the callbacks and references. it's not only a love letter to the series, but it's a remarkable entry in its own right, and i look forward to the next ten years, along with all the people we will meet along the way x3
You know this expansion has really made me regret that I never got into Final Fantasy until just this year. When I got to that point I was just like "Oh my this music is lovely!" And then later I find out it's a huge nostalgia bomb as grown men and women weep to it.
My best friend and I reconnected/buried the hatchet earlier this year after 11 years of not talking, and I was telling him how incredible 14 was and how excited I was for Endwalker and all the apparent nods to 4 within the material released so far. Then I found out he'd not only never played 4, but other than 7 he's only played about half of 8, and he's the one who introduced me to FF with 7. But yeah, there are so many nods to the series in this game. One of the more subtle nods is how the Legati (plural for Legatus) of the Garlean Empire are influenced by the game bearing their number. Nael van Darnus, former Legatus of the VIIth, tried to call down a massive "meteor," like Sephiroth did in 7. Regula van Hydra fought you in Azys Lla on a floating continent housing the Warring Triad, which resembled the Floating Continent and the Warring Triad (originally translated as something like the Three Goddesses) in 6. Valens van Varro, as the new Legatus of the VIIth, continued the Weapon project, all of which are (mostly optional) bosses you encounter in 7. Zenos, Legatus of the XIIth, bares several resemblances to Vayne from 12: both are the Emperor's son who rule over a conquered territory, who then murder their fathers, and absorbs a godly-entity. Even the term Magitek is from 6, and the Magitek Reaper, which you get as a mount at the end of ARR, is also from 6, and many of the Legati's armor bear strong resemblances to the armor Judges wear in FFXII, who share roles not too dissimilar to the Legati in XIV.
The fun part now is: If you go back to those other games, you'll get a completely different and unique experence of being like "Wait a second, I know this music/boss/etc".
@@GarlyleWilds Literally what happened to me playing through FF3 Pixel Remaster for the first time. Like, I instantly recognized Eternal Wind of course, but what really clicked for me was hearing the theme of the Ocular (the room in The Crystarium Crystal Tower where you frequently meet up with the Scions and the Exarch.)
I'm unashamed to say that I just teared up a bit, watching a grown man just about break when an element of his youth, an integral part of a series he now loves (and an integral part of a game that served to make so many FF fans) started playing as BGM. Thanks for sharing your nostalgia with everyone KB!
Final Fantasy 4 was amazing. If you were a kid when you played it, like I was. It was revolutionary. Cecil shedding his Dark Knight to become a Paladin... Pallum and Porum's noble sacrifice. The greatest generation of gaming. This music hit me hard, and when I am not busy in game.. I tend to relax in Bestway's Burrow for the music.
5:15 ...and there, you see his expression change from a smile over lil' buns to shear borderline nostalgic tears once the FF4 music kicks up after the Quest Complete tune ends. 😄 ...Beautiful.
I broke down at the same place, and in that moment I was a kid again. FF 2/4 was my introduction to the series as well. The story just resonated with me. It let me bury myself into a fantasy world that grips me to this day.
I was fortunate enough to be born and able to play the first Final Fantasy when it first came out, but 4 is the first I vividly remember from personal memory alone. I think the FF XIV devs realized that the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom Final Fantasy games are not only so damn near perfection, but are some of the first Final Fantasy games a lot of people ever played, and what better way to pay homage to the franchise and its fans than to hit the nostalgia button with IV as hard as humanly possible?
Here is a great FF4 story. I was 8 years old, at a little corner store and they were selling used rental games. Bought FF1 for dirt cheap. Brought it home, no manual nothing and I got hard stuck in the Earth Cave. Gave up on game. Fast forward 2 years later, borrowed my friends SNES for a week with FF4, loved it so much went back and beat 1 and loves it too. That double whammy made me a Square fan for a long time. Only broke free so to speak when I gave up on console gaming, only to own the mostly inferior ports of them all on Steam lol.
7 was my first FF, and it's still near and dear to my heart. 6 was...good, at times, but it just doesn't do much for me. I had to work HARD to bring myself to care enough to finish that one, and I'm so envious of everyone who loves that game so much. But 4, especially the 3D remake, is maybe as high as my second favorite FF. In fact, when Hydaelyn said that we would find "an ally on the moon," my first thought was, "Fusoya?!"
You know what will really blow your mind? In Shadowbringers the WoL was a Dark Knight and for Endwalker he became a paladin. He had the exact same transition that Cecil had in FFIV.
FFIV was my first FF and JRPG too, and it remains amongst my favorite games of all time. The music didn’t break me to tears, but I sat there a while just listening with the biggest, stupidest smile on my face.
This was me discovering the crystal tower raids/music. FF3 was my first and I teared up big time when I heard the syrcus tower music and eternal wind. They did such a good job at celebrating the previous titles in the franchise.
As someone who's favorite (non-MMO) FF game was 4, this whole area was just a massive bout of nostalgia and both this song and the battle theme in the Loporitt area just makes me pause, even mid-combat.
i understand how you feel. though it wasn't my first FF game, 4 was such an amazing story QwQ my first official FF game was 3, so whenever i hear Eternal Winds I cry Dx it means so much to me, this game, and i'm glad to see how much it reminds people of their childhoods, their times with FF. Thank you for sharing with us this story KB
My same reaction was in seat of sacrifice My first final fantasy was the first and i love the first warrior of light when he make his pose oh my god blew my mind
Finally! another FF4 fan...You had the same exact reaction I did when I heard the town music from FF4..... although FF4 was not my FF...(it was the OG FF), FF4 was the one I was probably the most invested in. So hearing the town music hit me pretty hard for me as well...then the battle music when you fight monsters in the Bestway Burrow was awesome. Even seeing the Magus Sisters in the Tower of Zot got me pretty hyped and I was wondering how the game was going to do Delta Attack. Now if only I can get the orchestration for the Bestway Burrow so I can just leave it on repeat in my FC house...LOL
My regret is that I didn't get into 14 sooner. FF6 was my introduction to the series and I got really tempted after seeing the next bunch of Omega raids were taken from FF6 with Kefka being the last one. Seeing the Phantom Train animated was amazing and deeply nostalgic for me. Heck, just loading up on my Magitek mount and hearing the Narsch theme makes me nostalgic.
I come from the time before we had FF4 and 6 proper in America. FF4 was FF2 and FF6 was FF3 in the shops. I didn't find that out till later. I remember being so confused when 7 came out. Like why are they jumping from 3 to 7 lol? I played FF3/6 with free game rentals due to good grades at the local rental place. It was the first that I really got into. From there I was hooked and wanted to play the others. Damn...this series has had such a staple in the lives of so many.
It's hard to argue against FF4 being my favorite. I've played it all the way through, normally, at least 25-30 times. I use a stationary bike for exercise, and I run randomizer runs (FF4 Free Enterprise) on FF4 while doing this, so I'm not completely bored as just music doesn't work for me. Cecil only, grinding to 99 on Mt. Ordeals with the twins to see what they get spell wise, no magic and only items, FF4US and FF4J runs, etc. I played the hell out of that game as a kid and still do run through it once or twice a year on a normal playthrough just due to the nostalgia. Hearing the town music, followed by the FF4 battle theme, in this area just broke me.
My first was FF3 DS. This moment for you was me going through CT for the first time. Was me hearing the full version of Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Was me freaking out over how accurate and insanely perfect Amon was. And was so much more in this game. So I completely and wholeheartedly understand what you’re saying. 6 will always be what I see as the best one excluding 14, 3 holds a very special a place in my heart. A place equal to the place 4 is for you. Hell I even quote it as my love for Tomoya Asano games and Bravely as a whole.
I was lucky enough that FFI was my first Final Fantasy, but FFIV was my favourite for the longest time. I love it so much that any time a new version comes out, I get it, and replay it. While I didn't tear up at hearing Welcome to Our Town, it definitely hit me so hard in the nostalgia that I felt warm and comfortable. It's such a good moment to finally hear a song that I've heard so much over the years in now my favourite Final Fantasy.
This was me when I first got the Magitek Armor mount and it played a remix of Terra's theme. I was already feeling the nostalgia from seeing them, but hearing her theme made me cry. You can imagine the field day I had in Stormblood with all of the references to FFVI, to the feature in the Omega raids. The team really cares about the titles that came before FFXIV, even the ones that came after. There are so many references that it reminds me of better times as a kid. (Who else knew "Marques" was a good guy because of FFVI?)
The magitek armor in FFXIV originally had just the default mount music. The FFXIV fans made it very known to the Devs that it should play March to Narshe. So they changed it.
My 1st FF game was FFVII but because of that, I backtracked to previous titles FFI to FFVI and FFIV and FFVI stole my heart, so even if FFIV was not my first FF game I still teared up when this music first hit. FFIV was a great FF game in terms of story and listening to FFIVs music here hit me with a sense of nostalgia to those yester-years of childhood fun.
In real life I have zero friends who love Final Fantasy and sometimes it feels like I’m the only one who does. But seeing all fans experiencing XIV now has been great 🙏🏻
This whole area had me geeking out lol, the hummingways are indeed adorable lol and the towns music....then to out the icing on the cake you get the battle theme in a fight.... 4 is my favorite so this was just..... ^this reaction lol
Yep my thoughts exactly the house and the music is diffinitly from ff4 now they just need the theme of love for the wedding and everything would be awesome made bestway burrow my main hub
FFIV, or 2 as I knew it, was my first as well. And while this music poked me right int he nostalgia, the fight music just caught me by surprise and sent me :D
I personally didn't play 4 until I was in high school and I happened upon the FF4 remake for the DS. 1st time with the game and GOSH DANG did I love it. My 1st proper FF was 7, 8, and 9 but I do have rather vague memories of playing ff1 as a kid at my grandparents home and not understanding ANYTHING. But FF4 truly stole a place in my heart for the series and my love of RPGs and breaking systems just took off from there Edit: can't forget Tactics. Even after all these years it still reigns Supreme in my heart. Still haven't played 5 or 6 (pixel remasters not having the extra content other versions had makes it unlikely I'll ever play them or even enjoy them in full...FF5 had a Necromancer job iirc)
aw, I was hoping you'd show your reaction to the battle theme too! But yes.....FFIV, I think, was my first FF too. It's either that or I played VI first, then went back to rent IV. Either way, it was one of the first two FF games I played, and each time I hear music from either of those games, it makes me shed those nostalgic tears.
I broke a bit before with the whole mind slam that was the second half of Garlemald and then the moon shenanigans, but I tragically had never played another FF game before, so I never got to share in this moment, but boy did XIV make sure I still got a hearty dose of feelings later along-
Finally seeing the moment of realization at 5:15 is beautiful, and this is why I love watching others playthroughs after I've done mine - because others will get things that I don't, and we all get to feel that together, even those of us who may have sadly never played FF4 before.
I think I had tried to play FF1, but never got far. Seeing someone FF7 was when my interest really got roused, so much so that I dug up an emulator and played the SNES games (4 through 6). I loved them so much that I bought a PS1 JUST to play FF7 and have been an FF fan ever since. Just like you, I just stopped and listened in awe when the music started playing. These mad geniuses got us AGAIN.
FF4 was one of the first true, proper FF games I ever played. Yes, I played 1 and 2: Dawn of Souls, but FF never really hit me until I started playing the much more... story-driven ones. Namely, the GBA Remake of FF4. And my god, that game grabbed my soul and dragged me down into the JRPG franchise. I will never not be a fan of them, and I would say FF4 is one of the biggest reasons. I feel this man's feelings.
The first one I played was FF1, which was fun, but didn't really have a story. FFVI was my first real, story based RPG. Until FFXIV came out, VI was my favorite RPG (along with Xenogears). I played IV later and loved it, too. I remember it being extremely expensive and hard to find at the time as it was an older SNES game. My dad took me to the mall one time and told me I could buy a used game. Ended up finding an original FFII version of the game used for $15. Instant buy.
I'm the odd sort that always acknowledged Final Fantasy... but never played them. My first Final Fantasy game was Dissidia on the PSP, but I never touched a numbered title till XIV. I've recently gotten FFVII Remake, so I'll get around to all of them... eventually.
That's due to Nintendo of America, at the time. All games went through them if they couldn't localize themselves (which Square couldn't at the time, it was incredibly small still). NoA determined it wasn't accessible enough for the common person (i.e. wasn't braindead easy). Square actually tried three times to get it pushed to the West. First was the game being sent over to NoA, then getting declined. Then they later tried again with a 3rd party agreeing for the translation, but NoA denied the right to publish the game. Top Dog actually tried to push to get it ported over to PCs, but plans for that fell through I believe due to $$$ and, iirc, an exclusivity deal with the SNES/SFCom for FF5. SE definitely tried to get it brought over, but NoA wasn't playing ball.
@@tats_sacs it's rumored that, due to this, final fantasy switched to Sony for ff7 because of how overly picky Nintendo has been in the past and why ff and Sony has a pretty close relationship.

My first FF to try was VIII but the first to ever play was IX. As soon as I could get money I bought me VIII as I wanted to play it more than just renting it from Blockbuster.
I wish I could have played FF IV when it was out on the SNES but sadly at the time my family was poor and so all I had was like 4 or 5 SNES titles that were given to me as christmas presents one year and stayed with that generation until the PS1. Unlike most people my first FF game was 8 and gods what you felt here I felt during in the eden area as well as E1N.
Is it too bad i never played anyone other pf the final fantasy games? Except Xiii trilogy which i consider the best and pretty much missed the reason where all these songs come from? :) Luckily i have a friend that knows best and tells me all these details :) still i appreciate them all for what they are and not where they come from :) i liked when loporrits appeared :) and the haven like music that played here :)
It's funny, 3-5 I know literally nothing about, it's really my only FF dead space (besides the 13 games). By the time they were re-released they were too old school for me to find fun to play, story or no, so I never did. Even as a music lover, the only things I really came away with were the 4 boss theme because of Culex in SMRPG and Battle on the Big Bridge from 5.
The tower of zot and babill omg ff4 overload and I love it.... just kina wish they would've made the magus sisters a smidge more of a pain in the ass in the sense that you would have to defeat them in order or it starts over....and they hit you really hard... just saying...maybe a hard mode???
All i remember from FFXIV was being at a friend's house mindlessly wandering around doing other things while he and another friend were playing co op; I recall seeing one of the twin characters use a 'bluff' ability followed by a pretty funny animation.. didn't think it was such a big deal at the time and this was when Pokemon was already dominating the Gameboy market
I am a PC gamer so i just liked the music in this area, never knew there was so much history behind it. anyway, i get the feeling u'll recieve alot more shocks this expansion, so buckle up!
VI was my first FF. I feel the same way about it as you do about 4, and the first time I heard Terra's theme on the Magitek mount, and also the Doman Enclave theme hit me the exact same way this song did. I think I'd die if they ever put a direct reference from Chrono Trigger in, as that was one of the first games I ever played.

Edit: can't forget Tactics. Even after all these years it still reigns Supreme in my heart. Still haven't played 5 or 6 (pixel remasters not having the extra content other versions had makes it unlikely I'll ever play them or even enjoy them in full...FF5 had a Necromancer job iirc)
Yep Tactics wasn’t my first FF game but god that game is my version of his Ff4. I love that game so much.
Just wait till he hears the battle music
aw, I was hoping you'd show your reaction to the battle theme too! But yes.....FFIV, I think, was my first FF too. It's either that or I played VI first, then went back to rent IV. Either way, it was one of the first two FF games I played, and each time I hear music from either of those games, it makes me shed those nostalgic tears.
......give it a second uploding it.
I felt the same way. That music started and I was 15 again playing 4 in my room where I grew up.
When I heard the FF IV battle theme I lost it. It’s still one of my favorite battle themes in any FF game.
I admit, I squee'd when that music kicked in in The Burrow.
FFIV DS was my first ff alongside FFIII DS and Ring of fate, but even if it's not the exact same game i feel you
FF4 was one of the first true, proper FF games I ever played.
Was looking forward to seeing this particular reaction again, great stuff :)
IV was my 2nd Final Fantasy game (Mystic Quest was the first sadly) But it was IV that made me fall in love with Final Fantasy.
I'm the odd sort that always acknowledged Final Fantasy... but never played them. My first Final Fantasy game was Dissidia on the PSP, but I never touched a numbered title till XIV. I've recently gotten FFVII Remake, so I'll get around to all of them... eventually.
IV was incredible. To this day i can’t understand why they didn’t release V after.
@@Viertel ah and they let turds get released. That was mind boggling.

This is great man. I'm like this but with 9.
My first final fantasy was 8. Not only first final fantasy, but first videogame with Threads of Fate, Star ocean second story and Chrono cross.
5:15 ah yes ff 4 song is so cool
I had the same reaction. I realise you likely recorded this a while ago but you HAVE to fight something there too!
When he aggros an enemy here. He will freak
...it has been said before, but this right here...this proves that Soken is a GOD of music...
I dun deny Soken's masterwork. But this specific theme is from Nobuo Uematsu. :)
Is it too bad i never played anyone other pf the final fantasy games? Except Xiii trilogy which i consider the best and pretty much missed the reason where all these songs come from? :)
Luckily i have a friend that knows best and tells me all these details :) still i appreciate them all for what they are and not where they come from :) i liked when loporrits appeared :) and the haven like music that played here :)
True FF fans over generations broke at this exact moment T_T
Hmm, believe tactics was what got me hooked then 7 came along and took my soul. Now 14 has done that and more
My first Final Fantasy as well mate.
I really need to pick up the pixel remasters it seems.
Very well done rendition
The tower of zot and babill omg ff4 overload and I love it.... just kina wish they would've made the magus sisters a smidge more of a pain in the ass in the sense that you would have to defeat them in order or it starts over....and they hit you really hard... just saying...maybe a hard mode???
4 was also my first final fantasy
I'm not crying. I'm fine.
🥺
😭
All i remember from FFXIV was being at a friend's house mindlessly wandering around doing other things while he and another friend were playing co op; I recall seeing one of the twin characters use a 'bluff' ability followed by a pretty funny animation.. didn't think it was such a big deal at the time and this was when Pokemon was already dominating the Gameboy market
When someone asks me what final fantasy game to start with, I always tell them to start with 4
I am a PC gamer so i just liked the music in this area, never knew there was so much history behind it.
anyway, i get the feeling u'll recieve alot more shocks this expansion, so buckle up!
So, what is the name of the track from FF4 in this place?
Tis simply called "Town Theme" or "Welcome to our Town".
After 7 remake 4!!
ff4 is my all time favorite, this part hit me pretty good too.
Bun buns!!!
Trop de cinéma go jouer et arrête de faire la mariole omg
What’s up your arse?
VI was my first FF. I feel the same way about it as you do about 4, and the first time I heard Terra's theme on the Magitek mount, and also the Doman Enclave theme hit me the exact same way this song did.
I think I'd die if they ever put a direct reference from Chrono Trigger in, as that was one of the first games I ever played.
