I grew up in poverty... my mom didn't have credit. I didn't have credit. I couldn't even get a loan for the film school I was accepted to... and now... I'm supposed to pay for someone who was privileged enough to receive a loan to get a higher education. Ffs! The cycle needs to stop!

College is not a requirement especially if the student didn't get a scholarship. Just like everything else in the world, if you borrow money, YOU have to pay it back. I went to a post secondary school for M.A. MY last week of class before getting assigned to clinicals when I get to class everyone was outside waiting to go in which was weird and when they let us in we were met with an announcement school went bankrupt and there would be no more classes go home. I took out a large loan for this and the government doesn't forgive it either. So as a widow with 4 children I busted my azz to keep my payments up. Then I ended up in hospital, lost my job and car and defaulted. Found another job later, but was so far behind, had to save for another car and I paid when I could, and it took years with interest rates but I did it. Then later decided I want to do more and looked into several different schools. None of the options made it that important to go through that hell again. If you aren't deeply dedicated to finishing don't start. If you are bad at paying bills, don't do it. And if it's to make a good living, you don't need to spend that kind of money to do so. Schools don't educate, they dumbify and indoctrinate. Don't.
The lady that leads the teacher's union is the embodiment of why our teachers have become substandard in this country.

*Its also why I didn't tolerate liberal teachers in High School or college. I have the honor of having retired one such liberal AP History teacher who taught 12th grade AP Hist. She had terrorized students for over 2 decades. I made it my goal early in the year to get rid of her & I did. She retired one week after graduation. She wanted total control over her students. She even wrote her own rules which contradicted the handbook i signed the first day of the first semester & this is what I used to wage war on that woman for the next 5 months and she went to other teachers, she went to the Principal, she went to the President of the Board of Ed. even. She wanted to get me suspended. Nothing she did succeeded & every Monday morning while all the students broke their necks to get to her homeroom 10 mins before the actual bell rang for homeroom I stood outside of her door and waited by myself until the bell rang. She even tried locking the door but because technically the homeroom didn't ring until 7:58 am she wasn't allowed to. She was told she had to keep her door un-locked. And at **7:58** when the homeroom bell rang I went to my seat. She even tried the 'Oh, well lets make sure everyone knows how SPECIAL you are' approach which the Principal pointed out to her was absurd because I was actually just following the rules of the handbook everyone signed the first day. So, I wasn't expecting special treatment. I was actually expecting to be treated like all the other students. This further frustrated this teacher. It climaxed when I started skipping homeroom altogether and she walked into the office and I was in their making copies of some music for something for Wind Ensemble. She grabbed me, took me to the Principal's office and just went off the rails. The principal told her 'He's a good kid. Leave him alone. He told her to give me a hand-written pass.' On the way back to her room she swung around with her purse and tried to hit me in the head. Dumbest thing I ever did was ducking that purse. I ducked, her purse hit the wall and her stuff went flying up one end of the hall and all the way down the other. Her crap was all the way up and down that hallway. That was the day she gave up. I won. 7 weeks later she retired.*

I’m a conservative. I’m a Mexican woman who grew up in a broken home with alcoholism and I dropped out of high school in my senior year to have a baby. (I have always been pro life) but I was on welfare, had 2 more children and raised them as a single mom without getting child support. When I was 21, I had 3 children on welfare and made a decision that was not going to live waiting for a government handout. I walked to the adult school to finish high school, took classes at community college and worked my way out of minimum wage jobs, barely keeping up with the politicians who kept raising the minimum wage. Every time I got ahead, they raised the minimum and went back to being a minimum wage earner. I started my own business and did that until my children were grown and then I lost everything and was homeless. I am working my way out of debt today & wasn’t privileged enough to go to college. (Ironically, I was in advanced placement classes during high school but my dysfunctional home life was a lot so I drifted into the wrong crowd) so it is insulting for the leftists to think people who worked & clawed their way through life to accomplish something, should pay for their useless liberal arts or gender studies degree. Pay for your own school!

The way to build a country is through an educated populace. The way to keep a populace subservient is to argue against education. The free education received by millions through the GI Bill post-WWII made the US the greatest economy in the world.
If they want a free college education ask the professors to teach for free.
If there was a cap put on these schools where they couldn't charge as much then we wouldn't have as big of an issue. Almost everything else has one. Medical and education needs to have a cap on pricing.

My daughter went to college to become a teacher and came out with a debt of 120,000.00. My husband and I could not pay for her college we are blue collar workers. We raised our kids to grow up to be responsible. The only way we could of helped her was to put a loan on our house. We found a interest rate at that time that was 2.2 percent which cut her payment in half. She is now married has two kids had worked two jobs for the past 15 years and has never missed a payment to us. My son went to trade school and his loan was not as high. He is 31 Married with two kids and his loan is paid off. I am so proud of them. They both bought houses also. They are hard workers and are paying their own loans that they chose to make. They don’t expect free.

I’m a nurse with my BSN and I have ZERO student loan debt bc I never took out a loan. There are ways to get a nursing degree and just about any other WITHOUT going into debt you can’t afford. But it will take ALOT of sacrifice and hard work. Pay your own bills.

When I took out my student loan I was told by a counselor that once I secured a degree I would have no problem paying the loan back. That was a lie, I have never earned more than $32,000 /yr.and trying to pay back the loan is still a hardship. So it's not for the rich and I would really like this off my back.
As a nurse and nursing professor who worked in person throughout the pandemic and didn't skirt my teaching by zooming it in, it is hard to want to give money to the teachers who fought to stay home when their students were the lowest to transmit covid.

Teaching nurses online and simulation for clinical experience, then to put them in a hospital during a pandemic without the requisite face to face time is nuts. The majority of them are going to be in the hospital so get them in it. In person and hands on honestly is the only proper way, especially since they are paying. Just like a business, if you pay for a product you should get a return

When I went to college and got a student loan, I was pleased that the interest rate was so low and my monthly payments were low. But I paid them off as soon as I got a job!! Problem is, these younger generations were raised with the participation mentality and no sense of responsibility.

I worked when others partied. I worked when others just took out a loan. It took me years longer because I refused to go into debt.

I did the same thing...worked 3 jobs went part time for 7 years and graduated with my bachelor degree dept free... why should I now have to get 3 jobs again just to pay off some lazy baby's bills? Who will pay for my bills?

Hey, earned less than $30,000 per year, was a single parent with a deadbeat dad who failed to pay child support, and I still managed to pay back my student loan. Not my loan, not my debt.

Plenty of communist and socialist countries out there; i'd pay attention to things like forced military service or 50% taxes that come with all these "handouts".

We pulled 2 trillion in revenue from income tax in 2022. 3 trillion would be needed to cover the program.
Some simple math; that would require a 25-30% tax increase over the current for people already in 32% bracket.
So yes; well over 50%; into the 60%-70% area (i am already in 37%)...

Because they have bankruptcy protection and those with a worthless piece of paper do not. Not having bankruptcy protection for student loans makes no sense when people can ring up thousands of dollars in credit card debt then declare bankruptcy and still keep everything they bought. The government ends up paying for it in the form of tax write-offs, for the lenders, which means if your neighbor declares bankruptcy you as a taxpayer will have paid that person's debt. Student loan debt should be treated the same way.
@@markfuller2656 college graduates also have bankruptcy protection if they fail to pay their bills. Bankruptcy is a completely separate issue which has nothing to do with student loan debt. College graduates with their worthless piece of paper earn more than double in their lifetime more than most of the folks I mentioned.
@@johnyy1911 Several months back, a survey of applicants to the student loan forgiveness program revealed that around 75% of them would use the additional income for non-essential purchases (travel, alcohol, eating out, etc.). So the Left’s argument that this cash giveaway will “save and change lives” is total bunk. It’s basically a subsidy for the Dems’ pet constituency so that they can “live their best lives” while continuing to avoid basic responsibilities.

I didn't go to college ! I aged out of foster care system and I found a couch to crash on and found job . How in the Hell are you going to tell me I have to pay for peoples college when I never had the opportunity to choose to take on that debt.

For those who don’t get it you can look up ‘Rate of Return’ which explains this basic economic principle.

Finance and economics should be taught in middle school and and high school! 15 and 16 year olds can work so they should be getting some financial literacy in school. Clearly not all parents are equipped to be teaching it.
The first thing my liberal economics teacher was about economic costs... then talked about how he wants free college and Healthcare would be without mentioning the economic costs.
Those of us who could not afford to go to college, did not go to colleges we could not afford!
Not to mention that essential workers got to work during the pandemic barely scratching by while watching "non essential" workers get $1200 a week in unemployment along with an additional $800 a month in food benefits with free Healthcare.
Being an essential worker, barely scrapping by with my family, has made me very jaded during this pandemic.
