As a lil design student right now you're so inspiring. I am always thoroughly engaged throughout your videos and your aesthetic is beautifullllll. Keep doing you
Omg I was gonna say the same thing!! Fresh graphic design student and love what I'm learning so much and honestly katrinas channel inspired me to take the leap and register for class. Love your style!!
I paint. The cheaper brushes (the ones you get in the little sealed plastic bags usually lose alot of hairs. Try buying the individual ones that are more expensive they don't lose hairs on to your canvas
so happy that I got recommended this by RUclips! I've been hoping to come across fellow creatives who incorporate their practice in their videos! Loved this recollection of the things you did, nicely balanced with the voice-over! I went to the LA art book fair, too! Back when I was visiting. Still working on all of my images from LA. I subscribed! Happy to see more of your work pop up in my feed!
I enjoyed your video so much and I also love painting too it’s so therapeutic and also painting sometimes can feel draining to people who are impatient but once you enjoy the process you feel good.
Creatives sharing their lives on YT are an instant Subscribe from me! My boyfriend and brother are both Art Directors and I am a content marketing specialist and water-colour artist, meaning I am always surrounded by designs, arts and marketing material. Seeing you breakdown your day as a GD inspires me. I too wish to some day start a channel from the pov of a writer, but until then I am here, doe-eyed watching you live. Much love! 🤗 Niki.
I couldn’t agree more about the rewarding feeling of creating long form content! I feel like it’s helped me really enjoy the process and remember to have fun. Loved this so much and your design work!
10:35 I’m 43 and yes that’s what your 20s are about. Figuring stuff out. Especially learning about hung you didn’t know that you didn’t know. Your 30s is when you really start knowing things. Take your time ❤
With Gouache Paint - you can try and work on a paper based canvas - you’ll find the paint itself will feel smoother and that might help with the brush issue as well - also the quality of brushes might also be a problem🫶🏻
came across this video as an almost-24-year-old planning my move near los angeles with a design career 😭 am feeling so burnt out and anxious but this video was a nice little reminder to go out & experience the world !! this industry is just so exceedingly exhausting, demanding, and fast-paced & making/doing things you want starts to feel like a luxury. in reality we should be experiencing things and people and places. the productivity guilt is reallll, especially when you work from home. i hope you enjoy what los angeles has to offer & continue to nurture your mental health!!
mostly played around with it myself! I learned the most from trying to design posters and then youtubing tutorials when I needed to (ex. how to use brush textures, how to make a gradient). I have a couple of tutorials on my channel :) For figma I had an internship at a design studio and that's how I learned the bulk of it but I share a lot of graphic design resources on my ig from time to time!!!
Just discovered your channel, I love the aesthetic of your videos and your designs. I'm currently stuck/lost and haven't really figured out what path as a Designer I should take even though I've been a designer for a few years already. I also plan on making a youtube channel to document my process to overcome it hopefully. Thanks for inspiring!
Hi! I made an entire video about my college experience if you want to check that out! It's called "How I became a freelance designer in college"@@__aika7__
ugh i wanted to go to the LA book fair but i was out of town :( it looked so fun, i'm glad you got to go!! i also got my type01 mags a few months ago and i'm in love
That book, "The search for self in early adulthood" is SO GOOD. I got through it so quickly and it really resonated with me. It wasn't just some self-help book throwing the same advice at you and I think any age group should read it tbh! Side note: I loved watching this :) I'm also a graphic designer and just graduated in the summer and I'm about to be in the same sort of situation as you. Very comforting to see!
Hello! I was looking for channels more vlog+life style and I found yours. As I know the importance of supporting people at the start of a new project, I wish you every success and I will start following you, your content is great, I hope it grows a lot.❤️
This was so refreshing to watch, love love watching how different yet similar creative people around the world are! I loveee going to art/book flea markets to collect some fresh inspirationn. Loved watching this video, keep it uppp!
Your brushes are wild 😂 I feel like painting is all about quality you don't need to have many brushes, but the quality is very important, same about the paint.
wait i swear we live parallel lives except we're on totally opposite sides of the world :,) that art book fair looks so so sick too !!! love the way u show us around LA, can't wait to see more
Super cool to watch your vid's and get another perspective from a fellow designer's life! When you said about being productive every day and feeling bad when you weren't I was like THAT'S ME! It's nice to know you are not alone in these mind battles :-) I should also look at books more as I've become to obsessed with Pinterest lately and I feel we can all start looking the same as we're looking at the same inspo
I'm just a French high school student who found out what she wanted to do later: graphic design. Your video is really good and your work is admirable. I just wanted to ask if maths is an important subject in this field (I have a lot of questions about my future lol). Thanks again for the inspiration
thank you!!! the only time I ever use math is really simple math in measuring distances in dielines for packaging so I wouldn't say it's that important
Omg, I’m a designer from LA too! I feel the same, I’ve been trying to balance design and life this year and I think it’s going well. Lol and I totally agree that LA has so much good food. What is your favorite places to eat?
i love ktown so much so pretty much anything there but I also really like salt & olive (mediterranean), dune (mediterranean), pazzo gelato, and bub & grandma's (brunch)!
sooo happy youtube recommended your video. love hearing about what other creatives in the la area are doing. i'm an editorial writer, so i really enjoyed your process of finding inspiration. might just have to grab the feeling of falling in love. have you started it??
love this video, but DAMN! that's a lot of paint brush hairs in your paint...you weren't kidding...you could role your cat across your painting and it would leave fewer hairs than those brushes...
hey do u have any advice with starting graphic designing, I'm 15 right now and I believe I have a lot of potential when it comes to graphic designing, also super cool video!
hi I’d honestly just say practice with personal projects as much as possible! I talk more about advice in the “how to become a better designer” video if that helps
I'm a graphic design student from New Zealand and I plan on moving to America when I graduate but I can't choose between LA or NYC. Which city would be better for a freelancer?
If you’re freelancing it doesn’t really matter since work can be remote! I prefer LA right now for weather reasons but both cities are amazing and have a great network of creatives
Sorry in advance for the question, but how do you pay your rent? Let me explain: I am an Italian art director, graphic and motion designer and from the video I missed the way you work. I didn't see anything commercial or saleable, just beautiful graphics for us designers. Maybe la in california is different or for privacy reasons you didn't want to show commercial projects on video, I don't know, I'm just curious, I hope you appreciate the question, I'm not asking it maliciously.
Yeah no problem! I do a lot of freelance branding projects, am on monthly retainers with a couple clients, and am actually a full-time in house creative lead for one of them. I also do content creation/partnerships with brands so I have a few streams of income that way. Hope this makes sense :)
Hi Katrina. I love your videos. I did try to ask over Instagram what programme you used to create your Insta reels but it wouldn’t let me.. just wondered if you used an app for Instagram or Final Cut or something? Thank you! Great video.
hey katrina! as a creative myself this was inspiring to watch. i'm interested in getting into branding and was wondering if you had any recommendations for packaging mock ups? the figma mockup plugin doesnt have many product options. thanks so much and keep it up!
Love this video! But I don't think it's ~*lame*~ to spend your your weekends on your craft or bettering yourself. 😅 A lot of people are masters of their craft because of constant practice and self-development. Social media is really demonizing "hard work" and "productivity" and that's why we're all so mediocre at what we do, especially creatives. 😅
Hiiii in Sofía, I live in Los Angeles and I am a fotographer, would you like to consider collab with me?we can go to echo park and have a photoshoot? Jajajajaaj Im new in the city 😊
Hi! Just found your page! I’m a graphic designer as well, but I was wondering….how did you get a graphic design gig? I’ve been trying to for basically over a year now. Just wondering if you had tips that helped you get a job? 🫶🫶

Your journey dragged me back to visual design. I'd love to ask if you could share resources where you learnt from, especially designing with figma
mostly played around with it myself! I learned the most from trying to design posters and then youtubing tutorials when I needed to (ex. how to use brush textures, how to make a gradient). try using gouache in a good cold pressed paper, there's where it shines ;)
The cinematography is on point🥰🥰🥰

super excited for you! it's ok to be lost right now, you'll figure it out (and everyone is a little lost)
Hey! I'm in last year of hs and a little lost on what design to major in. If you don't mind me asking, did you get a degree? And if so what major? Ty❤
