The fact that the last words in this song is exactly Ai's final words were always breaks me

2:22 I don't know why, but I really enjoy that the Japanese "dame dame" became "dammit dammit" in the English version.

It may be a little difficult to understand as it has been translated into English to have the same pronunciation as the Japanese version. That's why it sounds Japanese.

The song was written based on the short story 45510 by the manga's author. It's ~10 pages long. It focus on the pov of another B-Komachi who finds 16 years later a blog page written by Ai. It explains the rap part of the song.

Don't forget to check out the ED "Mephisto" by Queen Bee.
The rabbit costume from the OP makes a reappearance, but it's cut out of the version shown in the anime because the song starts playing during the final moments of each episode before actually cutting to the ED animation.

Damn it. By that last line, I teared up here at the laundromat. I can't recall a time I listened to Idol and I didn't choke up at least a little.

the darker part i believe is meant to be from the perspective of some of her fellow idols in B-Komachi

The thing about Maria does refer to the Virgin Maria, this has two meanings, one is for Ai's fans since they believe that Ai is a virgin, they see her as a pure person, and the other meaning is for the viewer, we no longer know the father of the children so he is equal to the Virgin Maria gave birth to two children without knowing who is the father of Aqua and Ruby

The remarkable aspect of this seemingly unnatural English translation is that it not only matches the sounds of the Japanese language but also aligns with the meaning of the story. In many cases, it matches the sound of the beginning and the end of the lyrics. Moreover, after listening to the Japanese version several times, when you listen to the English version, there are parts where it sounds like Japanese despite being in English. ENG"That emotion melts"=JPN"daremoga mewo" and ENG"Completely deny"=JPN"kanpekijanai" etc .

Unfortunately with the English version it seems we can't really play with the word "Ai" that much which means love but also her name (like in JP we can actually think "perfected Ai" they use is a "perfected Love" and that also fits with how she finds true love)
