After almost 30 years away from playing last, your videos are so helpful. Thank you so much for helping a once upon a time musician start playing again!
"Worst sounding note ... C" OMG thank you for stating that! I play in a local community band and dread when a C is held for a measure or two. As I come up to it in the music I'm just thinking, "are you going to behave this time?" (And sorry I'm late to the game ... loving your channel!)
Hola! Thank you for your videos. I play Oboe since 28 years already but your videos are still interesting and educational. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Germany!
When I blow on the Reed itself without the oboe, I get a C but I get 1 sound only which is the high C, but in the video 2 Cs came out, one high one low (I only have the high one) is there a problem with the Reed?
I hang on to reeds that I don’t really like and do a little of my practice sing with them. That way, if I were in a performance and my only really good reed dies I can make do with a not-so good one.
I got a new jones brand reed and I couldn’t get it to crow very consistently and when I played just the reed I could only play b or b flats. How works I fix this? And would you have any recommendations on machine made reed brands?
Hi Dylan, Im I am not a huge fan of machine reeds, but I am sure I could help you find a great reed maker near you. Send me a private message and let me know what state you live in. And of course I am happy to make you a reed I have a student version as well. www.oboefiles.com/shop/student-oboe-reeds/
I would love to be able to play that Mozart piece someday. Much too hard for us beginners! My reeds close up the more I play. I don't know HOW to consciously open my embouchure over time so this doesn't happen. Is it all just down to practicing? That would be too easy. Learning this instrument has been a major challenge.
It might be time for a new reed, they close up over time. Check out some reed alone exercises, they can give you the strength to not over manipulate the opening with your mouth.
hahaha! #allLips It doesn't matter just find your voice :) I have full lips my teacher had very thin lips... everyone is different but we can al play the oboe

@@kurthartle5473 Same here!!
That is a great crow!!
Rosenblatt said the priorities are 1. response, 2. intonation, 3. stability, 4. dynamics, 5. tone, in that order!
So true!!! though once 1-3 are done 4 and 5 take care of themselves hahaha :)

@@OboeFiles in chamber orchestras and als soloist when the time allows it
My father had built his reed self and some to westgermany exported. He played the oboe in his synphonicorchestra many years.
Das ist toll! Wie heißt er? Hast du gespielt die oboe auch?
Very helpful, thanks!

Perhaps not, does it sound and feel good when you play it?
Well, seem like all my reeds are dead😕RIP little reeds
so sorry :(

That’s good practice I suppose, do you scrape your own reeds or buy them?

Man, you waving that reed around is making me nervous.
I like to live on the edge ;)

first!
I wanna grow my hair longer than you.
Sitting here with some blanks deciding whether or not to just take the plunge.
You should not be able to peep any lower than an A. That can tell you if the reed will be flat.
Please don’t teach oboe students to move like you do physically.
