Being an ex-overweight person can definitely help in being a great weight loss coach, but someone can still be a great weight loss coach if they've never been overweight. A person who's never used drugs can still be a great drug counselor. Being an ex-drug addict can definitely help in being a great drug counselor, but someone can still be a great drug counselor if they've never used drugs. What makes a pastor qualified to give marriage advice to people is their knowledge of the Bible and spiritual maturity. I do think it's helpful that when there's a single pastor in a church for the single pastor and married couples in the church with great marriages to work together on marriage counseling so that way people can get marriage advice from a pastor who understands the Bible and is spiritually mature and from married couples with great marriages that know first hand what marriage is like.
