Why We Almost Didn't Move to Nicaragua 🇳🇮

  • 30 May 2023 | My Experience in Granada | In 2015 my family visited Granada, #Nicaragua as part of our surveying countries while trying to determine where we wanted to live long term. In this video I look back on our time in the country and how Granada almost caused us to not live in Nicaragua. We almost didn't #relocate because of too many #expat communities in tourist cities.

    I am SO glad I watched this video! Very helpful. I will definitely visit and enjoy Granada, but the things you mentioned, definitely helps. Thank you!

    I have the same attitude about all of the major tourist spots. El mirador de Catarina is swarmed by people targeting tourists all well. San Juan del Sur isn't as bad as downtown Granada or Catarina in that way (being mobbed by beggars and sellers), but it's even worse when it comes to price gouging. There are plenty of amazing spots around Nicaragua that are so rarely visited, that I can often be the only person there, and so I feel no desire to visit the touristy spots.

    We are located in Poneloya and enjoy the Nica community. We do a little with the expats but our vibe is living with the locals.
    Went to Granada last year and had enjoyed the higher end restraunts. San Juan del Sur is to be avoided in my opinion. We have been twice and it is not our home. We love Leon and the walkability of everything. Nicaragua is home and we love the Nicaraguan people. Great Vlog ❤

      Where would I look to find a rental fir 2 months in leon

      That's great. And we live walkable to each other?

      @leahboscher7489 I literally don't know of any short term Leon apartment rentals. That's such not a thing here. Im' not saying that they don't exist, I'm sure that they do. But I've never found a place willing to rent under six months. The cost gets too close to the cost of the hotels so people just opt for hotel living instead.

    I once had a kid ask me to buy his plastic flower in granada. I was told by locals and family to ignore them. The kid started following us asking us questions. After he knew he wasn’t getting nothing, he sat at a bench and started crying, that a attracted another tourist group to come over and console him. I felt a little bad for the kid but my grandmother told me he’s just fooling them and they do it all the time.

      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Год назад +5

      Yup, it's a routine. In Leon we have one kid that gets super aggressive, will hit people through restaurant windows and once someone totally ignored him and he managed to light their shoes on fire! Assume anyone begging like that is a pickpocket.

      It's definitely in one of the bumps, but like 2-3 weeks ago and I can't find it again.

      What makes you mention it specifically? You aren't the first to mention that song and I had a copyright issue with it (easily resolved as I had licensed it), so it has stood out to me as basically being mentioned by name three times.

      Sadly, they do not. Sometimes you can sneak by. But officially it is not allowed.

    Well also depends on the restaurants you choose to visit: I’ve been to so many and never been begged at: Pan de Vida, Asarte, Pita pita, Eco, La frontera, Garden cafe, Mona Lisa (inside) and many more.

      If you go inside it goes down a lot, but still happens.

      I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Not sure how long; perhaps 9+ months.
      I’m not sure if your aim is to make money from this blah blah… but, I don’t think you know the actual impact you’re making for the ones set after you.
      You are a forefather, I speak for everyone watching.
      THANK YOU!!!
      When we move to Nicaragua, I WILL find you and shake your hand 😂
      Keep them coming, I’m sure it’s fun for you too.
      I’ve been telling everyone about you.
      Keep it up.

    If you're not a paid spokesperson for Nicaragua, you should be. If they have a Department of Tourism, they would benefit greatly if they collaborated with you.
    Question - do you have any videos about the university(s) in Nicaragua? Any content pertaining to US graduate students, study abroad opportunities, stipends or incentives, partnerships with US college(s), etc?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Год назад +1

      Jaja, send them a note! Actually I know that they watch the show.
      I don't have any info on the universities here. Hard to imagine that there are many programs working with US universities. But there is a lot of them working with Mexico, Spain and I think Italy.

      @@ScottAlanMillerVlog - hahaha. If I happen to rub shoulders with any of elites when I get there, I'll make sure to recommend your channel. And thanks for the university feedback - we might give one of their colleges a visit while we're in the country, just for something to do.

    From the sound of it you have enough funds to live almost anywhere in the (3rd.) world. Why just fixate on Nicaragua?

    San Juan is very boring, more of fishing town then a beach town.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Год назад +1

      You are going to be super disappointed in the other beaches if you think San Juan is a fishing village. It's the least fishing village of the entire coast. Don't get me wrong, EVERY village has some fishing. But San Juan is an international port of call, has a board control office, and is the largest beach party spot in the whole of Latin America. Overall I find it boring, because it's so totally overrun with tourists, but I'm not sure where you'll find anything farther from a fishing village (except totally empty beaches.)
