    Great to see you back on the boat. I love your channel. I have one recommendation. Now that you have some experience, find a boat instructor that will practice more docking and anchoring with you. You can find good instructors almost anywhere and it will change your boat experience and it will make the trip more enjoyable and less stressful.

    • @SchoandJo

      Thanks Ofer! We have some family friends helping but we are slowly getting back into the swing of things. A lot of the anxiety comes with knowing Pivot is our home, so any little small thing gets magnified. We just upgraded our anchoring set up (you’ll see in a few videos) and since then it has been fantastic - we can actually back down on our anchor, which hardly ever worked on our CQR. Docking has been going well too! Thanks so much for watching!

We had an MT-36 Sundeck with an American Diesel Lehman a few years ago. We have Perkins engines now, but the Lehman motor is a tank, as you obviously know. We miss ours, but wanted a little more space. Cheers! Ben

    FUTURE PROJECT - Gut and pimp out that aft cabin!! It'll be the least bouncy area to sleep. Also, a great investment may be a SailRite sewing machine to make all your own stuff. They have "how to" tutorials on their RUclips channel for making cushions, mattresses, canvas peices, etc. Holla when you get back to the St Johns.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      We dream about re-doing the aft cabin but not sure exactly what we want to do yet... we cross between a large bed, office type set up, or leaving it along and just staying in the V-Berth 😁 A sailrite would be killer, we may go that route in the future! We will be crossing the St. Johns in a couple days actually! Going to be heading from Jax to St. Augustine for the holidays.

    Are you going to re-varnish all the teak work on the outside of Pivot? We are currently doing that on both the inside and outside of our future Greatloop boat. We are using the epoxy resin method, which includes 2 coats of epoxy and 3 coats of varnish. If you are interested you can see it explained on RUclips channel Boat Works Today. It's a whole lot of work but looks great and hopefully will last longer than varnish only.
    We look forward to watching your restoration.

    Great video. I am a computer guy myself I would love to here a video talking more about your communication/internet plan for the great loop. My wife an I are thinking about giving it a shot in the future. I work for MSP so in need to have good reliable internet in order to be able to remote into client environments while I am out and about. I have some ideas about what I might want to do. I'm just not sure about what is available right now as far as options go.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      Sweet, we'll have to make a video about that! We are thinking of doing a smaller series detailing some of our systems this winter when we won't be cruising as much. In non-remote places our tethering did the job very well, probably enough to remote into clients, but most of my software work was offline so it was ideal. For important meetings, I'd just head to land and go to a coffee shop. Depending on your time frame, Starlink will (probably) change the game as far as internet goes. We will share more information soon, good luck Andrew!

      Nice video tour. Interior wood work can definitely tell its a Taiwan trawler much like our Island Gypsy "Despacio". With your draft you are about as Loop perfect as you can be. With antenna's down do you know what your air draft is? Will play in route planning.
      Be safe, and good luck on your projects.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      Yep, we are about 18ft roughly right now. If we were still on the loop, we'd have to take down our panels and biminy for the Western part of the Eerie Canal - that would take our height to roughly 12ft ( I think). That's cool about the similarities across the different Taiwanese trawlers!

    If it's not too personal to ask, how much did the boat cost? How much do you budget for fuel for the entire trip? Do you have fire suppression in the engine compartment and at the generator? I am terrified of fire on a boat. How much are fees for marinas?

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      Hey Will - we haven't shared what we purchased the boat for, but we do share our expenses each month including boat projects, fuel, etc! It's all here: schoandjo.com/great-loop-expenses/ I think we budgeted 11.5k for fuel for the year. We have fire suppression in the engine compartment but since we're a diesel its less likely to have a fire there. We have tons of fire extinguishers all around though 😁

  • @foggybottombbq1916
    @foggybottombbq1916 2 года назад

    When you guys looked at the boat, I saw you did the survey. Did someone check the Diesel engine and how many hours did it have on it? Just curious how you tested that to ensure it was sound for the long trip. As we look for ours that is of course a top priority. Thanks !!

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  2 года назад

      We didn’t do that much analysis on the engine since the PO used to be the goto mechanic on a family’s sailboat and used to run a marina. He ran us through the entire system before we purchased and she ran great on the sea trial. Basically the engine was one part of Pivot we were least concerned about! Plus reading about the Lehmans - they are pretty reliable if you keep them in shape! Any luck with your search?

    There probably wasn’t anything major wrong with your old small boat engine small motors need maintenance just like big ones, your carburetor was probably completely clogged full of junk because of old fuel (over 3 months)or bad fuel or just hadn’t been cleaned in a long time before going out and buying a new motor next time just give it a tuneup and clean the carburetor and other parts filters so on

    • @SchoandJo
