Having used a few sets of Michelin before 'downgrading' to more value driven brands, there is no deny that they are probably the best in maintaining a more consistent performance as they age, even if its from their baseline XM2. Pity that they are now priced considerately higher than their competition.
i agree with you, they do not degrade much in terms of performance against treadwear. used michelin xm2, xm2+, and PS3. consistent performance throughout the range. you probably lose like 20% performance by the time you reach the last 10% of tread life.
You should find the RE004 has MUCH stiffer sidewalls than the Pilot Sport 4, for more direct and responsive handling and superior steering feedback. I really didn't like the Pilot Sport 4 ST, I found it extremely vague and floaty and I couldn't tell or predict what the tyres were doing (Civic Type R). Fitting PS4 was like an instant Honda Accord shock absorber conversion, it took all the fun out of the car. RE003 instantly restored stability and confidence, and the S007A was more of the same but with much more grip. I'm surprised the reviewer only thought the RE004 had 80 percent of the performance... On transient response is where the RE003 & S007A really shine as they have such a strong sidewall and are so predictable, I'd be surprised if the RE004 wasn't just as good and also superior to the PS4 and PS5 in that matter.... Heck, even the PS4S gets criticised for having a soft sidewall and a lazy turn-in, let alone the non-S, let alone the ST SE Asian version with even softer sidewalls.
I've tried quite a number of ultra performance and semi-slick tyres throughout my motoring life and I feel RE004 has hits the spot being very reliable, good performance (wet and dry) at a price point that many of us don't feel the pinch. I even compared it with SA007A (made in Japan) and found very little difference on the road. Track application is something else, even PS4 or PS4S also ain't perfect for it. RE004 reminds me of the good old RE711 back in the days. For sure, it doesn't channel water like F1 SuperSport, offer amazing lateral grip like RS4, AD08R...it doesn't need to because at that price, I will keep on buying it for my road cars even China made ones are cheaper and worryingly so.
@@firdausasri509 thank you for the reply! Currently I'm in dilemma between 195 50 15 AD09 or 205 45 16 Nexen SUR4G. Any thoughts? Haha. Specifically for trackdays

Hi Kon! If I were to upgrade my tires from the Michelin Energy XM2+ to the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE004, would it be a good upgrade? May I know what's your opinion?
@@KonWaiLuen I see.. When you say refinements, what do you mean by refinements? Because I'm driving a 2017 Alza meaning 15 inches.. Currently using the XM2+.. The price for a RE004 is about the same when I checked..

Handling will definitely improve. I can't comment conclusively on tyre wear as I didn't use the set long enough, but I expect it will have shorter lifespan than XM2
Any master sifus can tell me the pros and cons between advan V701 vs potenza re004? Or any other alternatives for the size 195 55 15 except for Ps4 they are not available for this size I don't know which is better in dry/wet/treadwear and can't find any online reviews also most of them are ads and biased :/

Michelin is super over rated and over priced. PS4 has soft sidewalls and definitely doesn’t handle as well as its rivals from Goodyear, Conti, Bridgestone, etc…

Agreed. Consistent with my observations using PS3, PS4, Primacy 3, and Primacy 4.
The tyres do fill up the arches ... Looks better. Now, I'm inspired to have my own E39.

Agree fully. It is a fact that Michelin is very much over-rated - especially if you want direct steering.
The reviewer is biased towards Michelin. The PS4 is a really soft tyre by UHP standards. Most of its mainstream rivals do handle better…

eagle f1 is very decent..but not easy to source
Almost a year using Eagle F1 Sport, fell in love with this tyre
Drive over to Singapore. It’s easily 20% cheaper.
Compare with mc6, which is is better in terms of grip performance? Since both of it price range are very similar.
I went to MC6 after this set of tyres and found the MC6 better overall.
