Hi Debra! Thanks for your question. I'm not sure what the problem is. You should be able to higlight on your own story as well as others. Is your story published already? If the problem persists, I recommend getting in touch with Medium support at yourfriends@medium.com
Hi Bhavya! Thank you for your question. When I was starting out, I was also confused about this! To answer your question, YES, you can still get curated after your story has been published by a publication. Curation and publication are two separate and not mutually exclusive things. Curation means that a Medium curator has read your article and they think that it's good and that Medium readers would enjoy it. They then "distribute it" across one or more topics on Medium (like work, psychology, animals, food, etc.) and "serve it" to the readers that have selected these topics as their interests. Publications, on the other hand, are almost like magazines or publishing houses that live on Medium. Some are run by Medium but the majority is run by Medium writers - like you and me. Anyone can set up their own pub on Medium. When you decide to publish your story under a specific publication, you're simply giving your story a home so it lives in a specific place on the platform, rather than only your profile page. Still, even when you do that, curators will still be able to read your story and decide whether they'd like to distribute it in some topics. This means that your article can be both published in a pub and curated (which I hope it will!). Shall I make a video talking about curation vs publications? Love x
