The three replies I got from my comment were from musicians who were over 50 years old. I think that says everything about the level of musicianship we get from Dirty Loops! I can’t think of another musician or group that can fuse, pop with jazz and classical and have it appeal so universally.
As a humble Swede I'm so proud of these boys. Three Swedish guys that meet and start playing together while studying music in Stockholm. When I first heard and saw their early tunes/videos I could not believe what I heard, it was so refreshing and from there on I'm hooked. I listen to them at home, at work and in the car and I' m still intrigued and can't get enough. There are so many tunes to listen to but their version (together with Cory Wong and his fab horn section) of the iconic MJ classic Thriller is my favourite because they really make their own version but still somehow true to the original. No wonder that Quincy Jones has taken them under his wings. I really liked your reaction because listening to DL the first time has this effect on you and music will never be the same.
I'm 72, and I get the comparison to Mahavishnu Orchestra - I followed them for awhile. They intrigued me, but they never sold me. I'm not a musician. I listen to prog rock, some pop, 60's-70's jazz and some classical. Found DL recommended on a Snarky Puppy comment. First song I heard from DL was this one, and my jaw was on the floor. Love them so much, especially their original work. I can't tell you what they're doing, but they make my ears so, so happy. Hope you share their newest- Run Away - it's hilarious, and Henrik does impossible things. Repeatedly. It's a do not miss. Subscribed and liked.
It’s just wonderful to see new people’s minds blown by these three dudes. Thanks for a rad reaction and giving us your thoughts on Dirty Loops afterwards 🙏 I couldn’t agree more with what you’re saying. Dirty Loops seem to have created their own genre, a unique mix of everything that went before them. Right in the beginning when coming out with their first LP ‘Loopified’, it was three immensely talented guys taking a simple pop tune, and then ‘doing the surgery’, as Aron (drums) once said. Or loopifying it. The resulting ‘covers’ are nothing short of sensational. Later they went into writing their own tunes, as well as doing collaborating with other artists. Jonah is the Original Riff Master, as well as one of the most soulful singers. Quincy Jones (on who’s management board they sat), when discovering Jonah, said: “ He’s got soul, and one of the biggest ranges I’ve ever heard.” Jonah’s been singing for forever, but mainly in church choirs, also did some backing vocals in bands, but discovered lead vocals only fairly late in life. He’s a classically trained pianist, switching to jazz piano later on, and counts classical composers from Bach to Rachmaninov, as well as jazz pianists like Oscar Peterson etc., as his influences. Henrik (bass) and Aron are legendary musicians, too. You’ve mentioned the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Yes! As well as the Pat Metheny Group, -as well as absolutely everything else they’ve ever listened to. I’m looking forward very much to hearing more from your Dirty Loops journey! “Next to You”, their Samsung Horizon ringtone, “Thriller” from their collab with funk guitarist Cory Wong, -all of their stuff is simply mindblowing 👍🔥👍
It's funny that you say they need to change their name, as that is exactly what lead me to check them out. Came up as a recommendation a couple of times for some reason and the name intrigued me. Wasn't at all what I was expecting. But I loved it. Seeing them live April 9th!
They have been touring for a couple of years straight now and they are pulling this off live. Although they do have a 4th keyboard/background singer on their live shows. On occasion they also have a horn section too. Any background singer(s) on the recordings are Jonah (keyboard singer) adding takes with a slightly different voicing.
Beatiful comments! It’s odd to see you almost not react during the video, but you make up for it afterwards! Of course you should check out some more of DL. Have you listened to Run Away, that they released just days ago? I think it will surprise and delight you, and if you watch Henrik (the bass master) and his “extra equipment”, you might even have to smile or look perplexed. Won’t sell it more than that. Now bite!
I've seen this video about 20 times or more and just realized: There are no controls on the bass guitar! No volume, tone select, pick-up select, etc. BTW, you should also check out their first-ever original, "Hit Me." It went #1 in Japan. Also check out some imaginative covers such as "Ta Fete," "Baby," "Undo," "Circus," "Over the Horizon," and others. For fun, listen to a minute or so of the original song first and then check out how DL "loopified" it. You'll be amazed! Another favorite original is "The Way She Walks." No video, but the song will blow you away!
This is prly my most loved tune by them and I know them all ;-) It´s the mixture of all the different styles and levels of references they collected in this, Pop, Jazz, Classical... I love the piano part so much it reminds me of Pat Metheney/Lyle Mays. The transitions between all these parts are crazy good and effortless! And then of course all you guys said about Henrik and Aron, that chemistry and humor!!!
As a touring musician for 37 years and a session Drummer for the last 15 years Aron makes me wonder why I even play music. I'm not worth to carry his stick bag! Ambassador Jenks
Interesting reaction style. I almost clicked away, but I read a couple of comments, and stayed. I'm pleased I did. (Hank?) used a lovely metaphor, an 8yo beating a grand master. For musical composition, maybe reserve that for Jacob Collier and suggest Dirty Loops are like an 11yo beating a grand master. However, Dirty Loops bass player, Henrik, is an amazing musician with Aron and Jonah not far behind. Jacob Collier's keyboard skills are comparable, but his bass playing and percussion are weaker. If you're friend hasn't heard Jacob Collier, maybe react to "All Night Long" or "Moon River". I assume you both know Snarky Puppy. You might consider reacting to Japanese bands. Best Wishes. ☮
Looking for more similar insane stuff like that?! Search for "Valeriy Stepanov" and his Jaco Pastorius cover version of "The Chicken"! Disapointment impossible ;-)
I don´t think this video lives up to the standards of the word "reaction video" since there is hardly any reaction. I mean, there is a discussiona and analysis at the end, but still: hardly any reaction.
For me, a 79 year old professional composer, it doesn’t get any better than Dirty Loops!
Got ya! And I´m 55...
Same at 55 ❤
Agreed. I'm a keyboard player; 67.

Yes! "Master fusion" - what a great term for this piece of music.
Lovely reaction video.
Thank you, both 🙏😊

We definitely will.

@@PomadeJam they are touring in Canada/the US right now. The videos are edited by the drummer Aron, so many talents!
Well done guys, more DL please!
It shall be done!
Great review guys,,,nice to see people that get it
Wow. That was incredible

«The new mastery» - great summing up of DL.

We will do that one for sure. And maybe even add in some more expressions! Thanks for the recommendation!
I quite often struggle to find the words to describe these guys, they are just absurd.🤯
agreed!

it really is a fantastic tune.
The music is jazz fusion

lurking henrik and suddenly hummingbird tactile bass
In my opinion Aron is the King of the snare rolls! Ambassador Jenkins
Hard to disagree
I liked you both listened to the complete song without any interruption
thanks!
Great commentary!! Got a new sub!
Kids have that band like my generation had people like UZEB. Same incredulous look at the end of the piece.
I am a HUGE Uzeb fan, will have to play them for some reactions too. Alain Caron is one of my all time favorite bass players.
