'Man of Action' by Les Reed still brings the tingle of anticipation I used to feel when I tuned in as a kid, just like so many others, in bed with my transistor radio under the pillow. Great station, great DJ's!
What a great video and amazing jingles from a time when radio rocked. One of the best stations certainly the most fascinating you never new what would happen next. But alway very cool and professional Thanks for putting it together
@@billcurtis7240 A J Burns was a very clever Guy - I hope to make this a project in the winter months will have to locate them in the attic - Hope the 36c this summer has not damaged them - There is one about the grounding of Radio Haraki - Plus the bombing with added MORSE Code thrown in for free - one of my favorite recording is Debbie England on Radio Atlantis also Tour of the Mi Amigo - Got Datty Don Allen as well haven't decided on CD or memory stick. Some were is a recording of RNI test transmission to Libya only a short recording though
Flicking over the stations on my car radio recently I heard a DJ voice and thought "I'd recognise that voice anywhere"" Roger Day, still on the air in 2021. RNI was always an adventure , you tuned in every day wondering what was up out there on the ocean today.
I listened to RNI from the early test broadcasts and also they broadcast on short wave. I remember Roger Twiggy Day broadcasting on this great radio station. The jingles were the best, for me, since Radio London a fe years earlier.
Rni and Veronica kept us going when other pirates were shut down. Great stations. Roger "Twiggy" Day " Your thinner record spinner" those were the days.
August 14th 1967 at midnight - when the Marine (etc) Offences Act became law. Writing this now approaching midnight when Caroline was the only one left. Johnny walker and all......
i was born too late (1967) so i cant really have an all over opinion on pirate radio but i loved laser 558 and with radio caroline they were miles better than radio 1 and our local station radio (b)orwell
1970. Radio One is In charge. But wait - what's this ? A new pirate station ! Suddenly radio was fun, exciting & interesting again ! The bland uniformity of today's so called 'independent' stations merely makes me hark back to good to good times when you never knew quite what was going to happen next. All gone - except of course for CAROLINE - sounding great on 648 !
Was glad when it appeared: Radio 1 was truly awful. But RNI still had a naff name compared with Caroline and the Big L. Also can't help but feel RNI was a little bit after the fact, and sounded as if it was a poor man's 1967. Apart from Roger Day, the DJ's were average as well. Still, Veronica was worried.
