Yes! That's the familiar sound of my childhood! I did the same thing this year with my Amiga 500, she's turned 30 back in April, her older bro Mac already riding his 30's. But those sounds of FDD, the ticking and sudden rambles when we put the disquette in...I am sure you as well - know every little sound and crackle, we oftentimes exactly know what's going on just by listening to the computer! For example, upon providing a direct executive command, or loading a disquette: - it does a few fast ticks then makes a long loud one (like a fuckin goose) then continues the irregular silent ticking = load and/or execution successful - a few ticks then suddenly a complete silence = syntax error or command rejected / also disquette empty - few ticks, shorter milder "goose", then the silent repetitive and rhythmical ticking = command accepted but there's a bug / dusquette successfully loaded but the software bugged out - few ticks, then shorter milder goose (same as above) but then a sudden silence = the same as above, but the bug is much more serious - one tick, then silence, then one sudden and loud screech (or a goose) then just silence = hardware error / dusquette is damaged - same repetitive ticking on and on = much more serious hardware error / dusquette useless shoul be discarded - one barely audible tick then/or just silence = drive died And there are more. 🙂 Always the same, you couldn't go wrong by knowing them! 😄
Oh man this takes me back. Such sweet machines. I still remember playing one of the first flight simulators on it. The images made up out of big fat pixels no more than a few lines, and that was the aeroplane. But it worked. Always...
The boot times have not changed at all although everything is much faster, including the SSD compared to the floppy drive ;-) but they just load more stuff at the beginning.

LOL that thing won't turn on after 5yrs let alone 30
Hello Xi
S M whoops macbooks from 2008 still work in my school definitely more than 5 years
macs then were used like lambo cars,u don't use it unless u show off it, mac now a days are used as shoes
30 years, and it still looks like new
That was first thought. Looks like been kept in the original box since was ‘retired’.
They used a really good plastic for these machines.
Its impressive that the floppy disc is still working! If that was a flash drive it would have died 28years ago!
Reliability on an another level🔥🔥

@David Ionescu there’s even websites, no downloads needed. Sure, it’s not the full experience, but way easier for some. Here, I’ll link it: jamesfriend.com.au/pce-js/
@@TheTotallyRandomGuy I love the james friend emulators! Back in high school I used to play bureaucracy (a text based adventure game) all the time during class on that site
Love how these old machines roar back to life
My moms tv from the 60’s: “Are you challenging me?”
Everyone's saying "oMG It BoOTeD bEfOre tHe ModErN Pc!" Of course it did. That things running on kilobytes of data, even on hardware that old it's easy to load that little. Modern pcs have alot more heavy lifting to do.
Nah shouldn't be a reason for it.. especially with arm processors and cleaning up all that base layer crap that is wasting it's potential common with x86. M1 macbook or smartphone boots right up and you could be in a application editing 4K video while fully networked within 1 minute using way less electricity than this machine. Windows, as usual.. is in need of significant refinement.
The OnE iN tHe bAcK Is uPdAtInG bRo
@@KamalaChameleon even M1 Macs with its superfast SSD and RAM can't boot as fast as original Mac since modern PCs has very sophisticated firmware loaded before the OS itself. Even Linux on my PC boots faster than the UEFI itself (6 secs vs 10 secs)
@@IslamicContent1445 what's wrong with that? If you can't tell the difference between updating and booting you're pretty stupid honestly. you can't compare an update to an old computer turning on. That update is based on your internet speed anyway not just your computer. My computer boots in like 10 seconds or less but updates can take 20 minutes to a couple hours depending on how shit the wifi is that day. I bet that single update is more data than that mac has ever processed in its life.
Wow that’s so cool! I was born wayyyyy after that, but it’s cool to see what like was life back then 😃👍
That is dope, I love old school technology. I want one of those for real. Don't ever get rid of that computer, you have a treasure right there man ☺️.
The lack of the Mac “bong” disturbs me, also that might be a capacitor issue
Macs didn’t have the “bong” til like the PowerBooks in the 2000s, only boot up sound I heard of the 1980 era Mac are a “tit” sound like the electronics of the time
@@quarthar no, it has a bong. I have the original 1984 Mac and it has a startup bong like the 512K, the Plus and later SE and Classic models.
It was more of a prolonged monotone beep
I was waiting for that satisfying sound and it never happened :(
Have you heared that Apple will get rid of many things soon? Like the sound and the illuminated apple.
I miss the Happy Mac followed by “Welcome To Macintosh.” It would be awesome if Apple added this to MacOS Big Sur when it’s released this fall.
I like how the Display in the background say "Configuring Windows updates"
I love those old machines... They may no longer be of much use today, but they are historical pieces.
I don’t know why but I found this to be one of the purest things I’ve seen today

The modern windows in background: am I a joke to you?
the funny thing is modern windows is a joke. it has so many issues compared to windows 7 and before. and this is coming from someone who uses windows 10 as a daily driver

@@frostech3149 i can tell if that was true as a windows 7 user
Oh wow, I didn't know that had such a small screen.
If this thing was sold by Apple today it would probably be priced at over $1k
The Mac costs $2495 in 1984. Would be over $6000 today. $1k would be pretty cheap then.
@@marcel151 the thing is, the Mac was the most advanced computer available to the average Joe at the time.
it was more than 2g when invested
@@corporalchaos666 Or just look at my comment.
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial Did I say anything different?
Even 30 years ago, Macs were the best looking and most beautiful computers.
For example, upon providing a direct executive command, or loading a disquette:
- it does a few fast ticks then makes a long loud one (like a fuckin goose) then continues the irregular silent ticking = load and/or execution successful
- a few ticks then suddenly a complete silence = syntax error or command rejected / also disquette empty
- few ticks, shorter milder "goose", then the silent repetitive and rhythmical ticking = command accepted but there's a bug / dusquette successfully loaded but the software bugged out
- few ticks, then shorter milder goose (same as above) but then a sudden silence = the same as above, but the bug is much more serious
- one tick, then silence, then one sudden and loud screech (or a goose) then just silence = hardware error / dusquette is damaged
- same repetitive ticking on and on = much more serious hardware error / dusquette useless shoul be discarded
- one barely audible tick then/or just silence = drive died
And there are more. 🙂 Always the same, you couldn't go wrong by knowing them! 😄
One of the good things about old annoying noisy hardwares: you can tell what's wrong if something buzzes a certain way.
Windows: *boots before the old PC*
Old PC: *boots after the insertion of floppy disk*
Windows still configuring updates: "He's cheating!"
Mac: trying hard to run after 30 years
Windows in the background: Configuring windows update
Amazing. So cool that you still have it, and in such great condition after all these years!
Oh man this takes me back. Such sweet machines. I still remember playing one of the first flight simulators on it. The images made up out of big fat pixels no more than a few lines, and that was the aeroplane. But it worked. Always...
Oh man. The nostalgia. I completely forgot the Welcome to Macintosh splash screen. So many memories
The boot times have not changed at all although everything is much faster, including the SSD compared to the floppy drive ;-) but they just load more stuff at the beginning.
I loved that old mac did so many school projects on it. Classic
“YOO, that’s the monitor from surgeon simulator.”
Yoo its a fetus
I half expected it to play that meme of Tom spinning on the record player. Like it's been stuck on it for 30 years and now it's relevant
Notice how 30 year old mac boots way faster than the windows computer behind it.
The 30 year old Mac is processing exponentially less data, though. Lol
@@ethanmcmanamey5164 yea but operating systems like ubuntu and mac os atleast support live updates.... Also windows sucks in being secure 🤷
