We have lived in Switzerland and in France since the 1920'ies. As a little boy traveling with my parents, we drove through the Alps on many occasions. I remember passing through this area in the sixties. I'm sure mom and dad wanted to see the Bond location too. One thing that came to mind was a trip back in 68. We were lumbering through the French Alps heading to Italy. There were several sport cars racing on the roads. Our old car was annoying them. As soon as they could, they went whizzing by. I didn't think much about them until an hour later, we came upon the police at the scene of an accident. Those same cars went right off the road and down the mountain side. If you note here, those crappy cement posts, not only are they short, but many are also falling over, and you can drive right through some because they are spaced far apart. Today, those old blocks have been replaced with solid steel barriers, and in some cases large stone walls. But back then, DRIVE at your own RISK! Thanks for the post!

I was looking at the snow on the mountains and thinking there must have been more than a few people fall victim to the ice that would form on the road sometimes. The slightest excessive speed could be a gross error of judgment.

In 1967, I actually sat in one of the Aston Martin's used in the film "Goldfinger"! It was on display for 2-3 days at the
A&S store in Manhasset, N.Y.! It was protected by a security guard, during operating hours, but a friend, who was a
store employee, let me sit in it, after hours! The car had a phone in the door; a televised screen & a control panel. I
also noticed scratches on the roof, where that portion was ejected! It was great fun seeing this famous car, in real life!

I saw the same car at a car show in SF in the 60's with my Father, not sure the exact year. They said everything worked except the ejector seat. That's pretty cool, because today they'd just use computer generated images for what that car could do. But I didn't get to sit in it - leather seats I'm sure. That car show in SF also had the Batmobile, car from The Munster's and many others. Thanks for sharing.

Sean Connery, the best Bond, was also in the four best 007 movies (IMO) - Dr. No, Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball! Also, probably his three most formidable adversaries came from three of those - Rosa Klebb, Red Grant, and Emilio Largo! With the world climate as it is and with the thing for remakes, I'm surprised Thunderball was never remade!

“From Russia With Love” is the high watermark for the series because it best emulated The Cold War world of Ian Fleming. The only other film in the 60s-70s faithful to Fleming was OHMSS.
By way of director Guy Hamilton, “Goldfinger” ushered in the era of “pastiche” and larger than life villainy and camp that carried the franchise in that particular direction for the next (almost) quarter century-when Timothy Dalton took the lead role.

that exact same sniper gun prop and its wooden case appears in two other Bond films...From Russia With Love Bond is chased over a hillside by a helicopter and he is carrying the rifle , he then uses the sniper rifle to shoot the chopper pilot as he is about to drop a grenade on Bond. On Her Majesty's Secret Service...in the pre title sequence Bond is driving his Aston Martin and is cut up by the Ford Convertible driven by Tracy, he follows the car and pulls up on the edge of a beach, he opens the wooden sniper rifle case and takes out the telescopic sight and uses it to watch Tracy walk into the sea. It is the very same prop that is used in the three films and it belonged to the armourer who worked on the Bond films supplying the gun props and gun effects.
