What sets them apart from Michael and Trevor is that these two argue in every scene but still have genuine appreciation for each other without threatening to kill the other even once
I love how the directors said to them saying "For the game, just be yourselves." and boy did both of them deliver good on their characters.

I could be wrong(probably am) but Lamar was actually planned to be playable but slink johnson(Lamar’s va) got arrested during the development and rockstar got so deep in development they couldn’t turn around and make Lamar a playable character(could be wrong)
