9:14 - It's so sad to walk down the South Bank now and see the LWT studio complex covered in scaffolding and ready to be flattened to the ground. And now every daytime programme is being made at the BBC. The founders of ITV must be turning in their graves. I think what is even worse is to see the front of it with the words Thames Television Studios over the entrance that were never removed from the Danny Boyle Sex Pistols film.
Yes, that iconic studio has been part of the London skyline since before 1972. It's legacy though lives on in film & video. Many thousands of hours of , comedy, light entertainment, drama & action series, news, current affairs, comprehensive sport coverage, outside broadcasts & specialist programmes .LWT certainly left it's mark on British & International broadcasting since 1968!
Tell me about it!! I cycle past that building 10 times a week. I even went inside to see a show being made, back in 1985. I often think about the great shows LWT produced. The Professionals, etc. Now ITV use BBC Studios!! Complete sacrilege.
What a huge bundle of laughs that closedown wasn't. LWT could have learned something about the fun and friendliness of on screen announcers from Westward and TSW.
A far off time when flinging a few darts was the depths of celebrity self-abasement. Remember Pro-celebrity Darts on Yorkshire as late as 82, somewhat surprising to see it even as a bookend to Saturday on London Weekend. They also tried Pro-Celeb Ten Pin Bowling at one stage.
It's a real shame that the PM5564 testcard wasn't there - someone could have downloaded it then made a three hour loop with perhaps an off air recording of a 1975 reggae show from BRMB, a few Yugoslavian public information films and an announcement saying "LWT is in bed having a snooze at the moment" thrown in every twenty three minutes or so to upload to their "this isn't anything like how things actually were but I think it should have been and everybody should just listen to me because I know that I am right" channel.
@@nowster It’s not, it’s a signal generator. I have one on my workbench. There’d be no use for a PAL decoder box seeing as a PAL decoder is inside TVs and monitors. EDIT: I misread it as PM5644. CWilliams has got the testcard designation wrong.
Having edited this clip for use as an mp4, I can't see any slides of a butcher's fucking apron, only the Union Jack. If you mean the Union Jack, why didn't you just SAY so?
Because it’s my channel and I choose to reflect my opinions on my channel… You should well know that I am critical of anything patriotic… Butcher’s Apron is a well-known uncomplimentary slang term for the Union Jack.
And you don’t have my permission to re-upload this clip, this copy of this clip, with the tape dropouts and head-switching bar is unique to me, so it belongs to me.

ITV is not even independent anymore. there are barley any reigons (STV & UTV are exceptions)

Liz Fraiser playing darts and Rita Tushingham closing the channel with poetry - I genuinely don't remember things being quite so weird back then.
You think that's the weird part? The darts coverage was presented by Fred Dinenage! :-)
Nice Beeb pfp

Nice to see the close with RIta Tushingham.
Wow Family Fortunes was on Sunday to begin with. I remember being a 3 year watching it then. Season 2 would be on Fridays.
No sighting of the PM5564 testcard, then...
No, unless it was after the tape ended.

Apparently a PM5564 was a PAL decoder box from the late 1960s.

Not true, summer 2018, 2020 and 2023 were good. 1990 was a hot one too!
