Health care to a certain point should be free. That is why public hospitals are there. But free basic health care and the same health care for all are 2 different things. The NHI is implemented in the UK, a country much different from SA in many ways. But even there if you want specialized treatment you can wait months and if you go private it can be 10x the cost of private Dr in SA. Sounds like another etolls.
Who would be the ruling party 1, 5, 10 to 15 years from now and will they, as a majority still want this to go ahead? So this can become a mess really quick.
Even though I understand the points being made by mans, I gotta say that it's kinda insulting for him to say that those affordable scheme options would make private medical care more affordable and it would just piss off the clients who give Discovery 4-6k per family by telling them their plan is equivalent to someone's R450 contribution to the scheme.
We can only wonder what the NHI will cover, probably the lowest package that a medical aid like discovery covers at 100% of the cost to NHI than what discovery spends for that cover, the rest of the real private health care will still be paid for by individuals via medical aid schemes. In short, this is a way for the government to pay R1000 for a medicine that a medical aid would limit to R100 because that is how much it should cost at worst.
Active citizenry is needed Now. Not in violent protest form. But boycotts, demands in accountability, DIY and self-sufficiency will also go a long way. We aren't serfs or here for rental extraction. Are we?

And then it will take 10-15 years for the full implementation of the NHI. Only then will medical aid schemes be affected. So relax for the next 20 years or so...🙂

Even more positive is that they can work in a shopping trip to London and Dubai, checking out their flats and have lunch and dinner with their friends, the Guptas, while they are at it. We will be in the fortunate position to pay for the shopping sprees as well.
On another positive point, the IMPORTANT people have thought it good to exclude themselves from the pesky blackouts...there is no sense for them to suffer from an Eskom that they have fckd up...
Fortunately, the IMPORTANT people will also not be affected by the increased cost of living as ALL of their expenses, including but not limited to travel, food, entertainment, clothes, education, housing etc. are paid for by the taxpayer, no questions asked. On another positive point, in a country that is the murder, rape and kidnapping capital of the world, we do not have to worry about the IMPORTANT people... They have allocated themselves an average of 56 highly skilled and trained police officers EACH to protect them and their families.... That is such a relief!
One wonders how blind this man chooses to be not to see the inevitable collapse of medical care in this country...

Because I certainly can't afford to (nor do I want to) pay twice for the same thing.

Agree Dr. the Bill will take time to impliment. But this is exactly what tje ANC is aiming as they are looking fot votes next year. People will vote thinking the ANC is providing better health care. After voting they will not be able to impliment and the process will fall through....another Eskom.

One can imagine that once NHI a law, a helter-skelter process of amendments will follow to try and stabilise it. As of now, there seems nothing concrete to guarantee it sustainability.
Phew thank goodness for this newsfeed about the proposed NHI for all South Africans ❤
The scare tactics by private sector. Have started.
Yes, and they started long back when the bill was still a proposal and draft, they have been fighting it to keep their pockets fat, to keep milming the cow and milking us with expensive medical bills. And why is the media only giving voice to those fighting against this bill and none to those supporting it? A single narrative is being pushed and we are hearing only voices from 1 side. This chap is now saying there are in favour because they have been defeated in their fight to stop the bill and now they have changed tact and now fein support while saying it will take 15 to 20 years to implement. So now their new tactic is to sabotage and cause delay of implementation of the National Health Insurance?
Bad idea
Will never work😅😅😅
Everything the ANC touches is ruined though not sure why they think this will work
NHI is important but can only work when both private and public sectors joined forces and select the right concept.look at Covid there was excellent contribution from both sides ..but running one NHI fund is a disastrous route
This country can not even provide electricity........
Go ahead with it but they dont even know how they going to pay for it

Exactly and we know we cannot trust the ANC!
Yes...hospitals must cater for all
So we don't have to pay medical aid. No gap cover. We will get free treatment in the private sector
We already pay for public healthcare through our taxes,to increase the tax rate amounts to double the tax for the same service,I am not paying.

Another cash cow for the cadres. I would suggest ANC do not get involved in the future. Leave it to experts
They will send us to day hospitals and force us to pay out of pocket for meds
Lower grade doctors who are cool with lower pay
That was an excellent explanation and I think people should encourage others to listen to what was said. No need to panic !!!!!!

Dr Contradictory
The way I understand it is that R200 Bn is going to be allocated to "fix" the current infrastructure. It is not said what time period is allocated to do this. And then it will take 10-15 years for the full implementation of the NHI. Only then will medical aid schemes be affected. So relax for the next 20 years or so...🙂
I cannot afford both and if the law says nhi is a compalsory tax, then PVT medical has to go. Discovery is so far up governments ass and fail to see that this WILL become the next ANC feeding trough at their own peril.
The very scary part of this NHI will be the loss of our Dictators and Specialists. However, I don't know if this can be implemented overnight.?
It will most certainly take 10 + years to implement BUT the NHI tax will start ASAP. The money has to come from somewhere to eventually implement it but we all know there will be very little wins along they way and will take decades before we all eventually wake up and realize that we have been paying for something that will never materialize and then Jan will be blamed again 2030, 2040 .... Drs, need to start planning for their exit strategies now.
There is something quite sinister about this executive
Check who is against an NHI implementation which will benefit all citizens when countries like the UK have a very functional Health System modelled along the same lines? So a few people should continue having top health service while the rest suffer to save your shares in Medical Aid companies and save high income of some elitist doctors? If some of the doctors want to leave there is plenty of doctors still in school and from the Rest of Africa. In fact they should not stop with NHI, they should go ahead and implement a National Social Security Pension Fund as well.
With what money?

The private hospitals, private medical aid and private healthcare is worth billions provided SOLELY by the private sector.
The government is solely responsible for the state health services with taxpayer money and is a total failure and 3rd world quality. The NHI will not be able to purchase healthcare from the private sector which is a more expensive service as it cannot with the money available at present spend the available money effectively on public sector healthcare.
Accessibility in rural areas will not improve whether it is NHI or private medical aid due to geographical realities.
Accessibility and availability of private healthcare resources in urban areas are based on the real need and economics of private healthcare. In other words the capacity of resources will not be able to cater for state demand.
This is socialistic and communistic interference in the private sector and an ideology that will cause the deterioration and destruction of healthcare in South Africa.
