The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the founding leader Mao Zedong. It is located in Tiananmen Square, south of the Monument to the People's Heroes, on the former site of Zhonghua Gate. On November 24, 1976, in accordance with the resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was held in Tiananmen Square.
Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was inaugurated on September 9, 1977 and opened to the public. It covers an area of ​​more than 57,000 square meters and has a total construction area of ​​28,000 square meters. The main body is square, and there are 44 bright columns made of Fujian yellow granite outside. There are Foshan Shiwan flower-decorated ceramic plates between the columns, and the whole body is veneered by Qingdao granite. The roof has two layers of glass cornices, with sunflower reliefs inlaid between the cornices. The base has two layers of platforms. The gangs are all made of jujube red granite beside the Dadu River in Sichuan, surrounded by Fangshan Han Baiyu Wannian blue and white railings.
When I visited Tiananmen Square, I paid my respects to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall for the first time.
