Am 70 and have kept a personal & garden journal for years. In 2017 we moved into the mountains (zone 3) my garden journal helps on some things now - but my newer one is priceless! Whole new ball game on the mountain :) But, a journal is a wonderful tool for the garden. I also keep track of the weather each day too. Good video kiddo-thanks
Great idea. I'm going to start a journal immediately after finishing this video. I always think I'll remember what I do in the garden and of course I rarely do!
I started in 2009 with my journal. I also do the temp and rainfall but started this year with any interesting birds that visit! So glad I started it!
I love how passionate you are about your precious space and stewarding the land. 💚 beautiful
I'm damn near 40 years old and I am still putting my plants out too early. I can't resist the itch after being cooped up all winter.
Me too.... you can keep doing it. It's easy. Look up how to build a little plastic dome on top of your garden bed with some half-inch PVC pipe. Just keep putting it out early. I actually start fertilizing everything in February. It's horrible. This year I got ripe blueberries in Tennessee by the end of April.... lol. I almost killed some plants by fertilizing way too early and waking everything up. But hey... screw it. Lol
Just figure out how to build a dome and double line it with bedsheets or plastic and put things out as early as you want :)
@@lifeisgood070i got a couple cheap greenhouses at lidl. When I don’t need the clear covers, I’m gonna use insect netting 😊 I got one that stand up and one that covers the ground ❤❤❤❤❤
You need a mini green house. I realize i do this too and build a mini greenhouse just in case it get cold.
Play the odds! Just have some spare 😂
i hear ya !
gardening teaches humility, just when you "think" you figured it out, along comes a new set of challenges, either diseases or pests or human error, gardening keeps you humble
I just started gardening at 58. In between foot surgeries and unable to workout the depression is horrible!!!! Depression and ADHD are a horrible combination and RUclips had me so overloaded with information! Thank you so much for all of your insight and more importantly to slow down. Obsessed is what best describes this gardener, and you have given me some great advice. SO thank you very much💫
Hi Tuck! Welcome back to garden season 2024! So good to see you again! ❤❤
James & Tuck, you guys always bring a smile to my face!
I am watching your videos everytime you upload something and been watching you since I came here in Wisconsin from Philippines I really love watching it cuz I don't have any idea gardening in this country I don't even know what are Zones are. So I have a garden 4 years already but because we are just poor farmers I can't afford how you make your garden beautiful. you really inspired me I love planting and growing ❤
❤❤
A little bit at a time.
You can have a garden with very little expense. Not very many gardeners have a lot of money.
@@cynthiafisher9907 That's for sure. We live on under $2000 a month and a garden is extremely important to us. When we started, our income was just about $1000.
In my late 70's and not really able to garden much anymore. But I tune in to enjoy your sunny personality and, of course, Tuck. Keep up the good work encouraging and entertaining the rest of us.
King Tuck
❤TUCK! Yes, patience! I saw so many people buying the wrong soil, complaining about weather not being sunny enough to plant out seedlings, and basically not knowing how to choose proper plants in the garden center today. I wish I could help them all, but the few I do makes me hopeful for their summer gardens.
Love that Terra Cotta color on raised beds.
Me too!!!!
Tuck is so adorable!!!
You are so right about timing, garden in the Southern hemisphere, we have had 3 years of mild winter's, a frost last weekend reminded that we do get severe frosts. When its a mild winter you can plant the cold harder stuff in August, but a more frosty winter wait until September for our area.
Hi James , for the first time, I have placed down wood chips in my garden as an experiment. I was inspired to do so by viewing your channel. Thank you. I am Spamming the hearts down below for Tuck.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Perfect timing, James. Transplanting peas and beans today, strawberries tomorrow.
New gardener here!
Did you plant your strawberries from seed or did you buy seedlings?
@@proudboxermom3104 I buy live plants at my local greenhouse. Everything else I start from seed. Good luck!
❤❤❤tuck was born to be in the garden! LOVE seeing this little guy! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are amazing. I learned alot from every video. You can be a teacher.
Amazing we plant and God gives the growth. I know we sweat but it is all worthwhile.
Thank you.
Thank God.
Your "god" should spend some time helping victims of war around the world & leave the garden to Mother Nature.
♥♥♥ Hearts for Tuck... the vegie dog! LOL
Awesome garden informational video as always. I love the huge ego bed with the protective covering . My Jack-doodle and Tuck would be best buddies as they enjoy the same vegetable snacks in the garden. Jack-doodle even enjoys georgia collard greens !
it makes me happy your lovely little dog is spoiled so well!!
❤️ Tuck KING of the garden ! 👋🏽😁
This is my 2nd year gardening. I live in NY and the weather is very unpredictable this year. Still cold, but at least starting in the 60’s & 70’s some days at noon. Nights are still pretty cold, but now getting in the 40’s & 50’s. Your right patience is important & timing. Even though I am tempted to transplant, I know I have to wait & transition to hardening the tropical plants. 😅
Don’t want all my hard work to be in vain. This year I am planting more varieties vegetables . Already planted potatoes & carrots outside few weeks after last frost. They have germinated and I have sprouts for the carrots, so excited. Going to start hardening off the tomatoes & peppers for a few days starting next week. Thanks for the advice! Very important for us newbie gardeners! 😄😂

Tuck the King of the garden 👑🐶🪱🦋🕸️🤎🧡🤍💛💙
Oh I shared it not just because I have made some of those mistakes, but to ensure my best friend does not make the mistakes that we did. She is asking me lots of questions and I share good videos like this one to back up what I say so she can SEE how it is done.
Jp, I'm new here so excuse me if I ask questions that you've already answered. Where are you located and what zone are you in?
❤❤❤❤❤ For the master gardener, Tuck. My poor garden, everything is gowing like weeds. My tomato plants are already waist high, flowering, and setting fruit. The cucumbers, squash, cantaloupe, and peppers are flowering and fruiting too. I just harvested mustard about ten days ago, and now it is ready for a second harvest, and my Swiss chard is ready too. Everything is about a month ahead of schedule. Alabama, 7B. My transplents went into the ground between April 6th, and April 9th.
I literally just bought plants at store today to transplant!!! Strawberries, tomatoes and cucumbers 😊 ❤❤❤❤ From NY and I’m taking in everything you say. 1st time gardening this year ❤❤
Let's Gooo!!! 🐕😁❤️
Could you make a video for us about planting ,thinning and harvesting different types of herbs . Thanks!
I love ALL The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni videos!
Let's Gooo!!! 😁🐕❤️
You have very good points. I made the mistake of planting my corn on March 22 instead of April 7 like I did last year. We then stayed cool and moist and half of my corn didn't germinate and I had to re-plant more. Plants are very temperature driven. Thanks for your channel!
So happy to see Tuck feeling better - he is Precious ‼️🥰💙💜❤️🧡💛💚😘‼️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️for Tuck! He’s the king of rne garden! We demand his presence😂🙏🏼! Love all of your videos! God bless!
💓💞💕💘💖💗 Love to see Tuck in the garden!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤for Tuck, he is precious.
Thanks for the tips, James. I plan to transplant some of my seedlings out into the garden tomorrow, so this video was right on time. (Hearts for the cutie pie, Tuck ❤️❤️❤️)
Love your videos. I'm a farmer's wife who loves gardening and have learned lots from your videos :)
Tuck, king of the garden ❤❤❤
The Young King ♥️💖🤗💗
He definitely knows what he likes! We had a cat that loved cantaloupe, watermelon and cucumbers, he was one of a kind. Miss that rascal Bobby.
@@EYES2seeEARS2hear78we had one that loved eating green pepper plants!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤for my little freind
King? You from England or something @@lindaseel9986
You and Tuck are so upbeat! Where did you find the purple mustard seed?
I believe that is Japanese Giant Red Mustard. Seed available from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
I usually wait till the 3rd week of May to plant out in northeast ohio; however, the weather has been so good and the 10 day forecast looks great that this past week seems like a great time to plant. I'm risking it this year for the first time in like 10-15 years!
Super helpful lessons and reminders. ❤❤❤❤ to the king!
You made the points I shared with my Arizona bestie. I live in Washington, but rules for picking a plant to buy and how to not stress out plants when planting them is something everyone needs to learn. Especially newbies at gardening. I put photos of her raised bed she built on RUclips under Community. No idea why they don’t just call it “Photos.” 😂
Thanks James and King Tuck!! You've helped me be patient to not plant too soon.
That’s so funny your dog loves his healthy garden snacks 😂😂 I love how much dogs love gardening as much as we do ❤
❤Tuck looks like my girl Yorkie she love vegetables too💕
Always love your videos and seeing Tuck. Good tips, thank u.😊
❤❤❤❤ hearts for Tuck and keep up the excellent work James
Zone 5b
I plant 1-2 weeks "early" and if It gets cold, I just put everything under covers.
Thanks to James and Tuck, I will not longer be a foolish gardeneir. Thanks Tuck and James. :)
Those little self watering planters are adorable!!
what are the strings for in his garden.
I could be wrong, but maybe a grid to divide sections for easier planting and straight rows.@@dawsoncolleen
@jeanbean1390 thankyou, but i cant get a message from the gardener
@@dawsoncolleenIf you watch the videos, he explains everything. No need to try to contact them personally.
Tuck, we love you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.... You too James!
Its always nice to see james and tuck ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh little Tuck is such a big Helper!😍😍😍 Love this little guy! You're great to James enjoyed your channel many many times!
Love ya James & Tuck 💖💚💜💙🩷❤️🌻🥕
Tuck is so precious ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Angella thanks for taking me through the stages of transplanting, sometimes we forget.❤❤❤😢😮
Oh my goodness, Tuck is too much!!! Love him...❤❤❤❤❤
We have had a lot of rain and temperatures into the high 40’s at night. We are past frost, but I waited to put out my tomatoes. I have to wait until next week for peppers, until night temperatures are consistently above 55 degrees. I haven’t seen such a cool and moist May in a long time. My neighbor’s gardens have been wiped out by slugs. Glad I avoided that. My tomatoes and peppers will make up the time when the sun comes out.
Please can you show us newbies how to create those PVC supports in your tunnels surrounding the raised bed? Your garden is super neat and professional!
Thanks you for your garden videos, James! I've been following your channel for about 5 years now and I gotta say, My tomatoe game has improved tremendously. From seed to harvest, homegrown food is priceless!! Tuck ♡
20 seconds in, and I absolutely love this guy. a true king
Thanks James and Tuck! Love your videos! You always give super advice! Hearts to little Tuck! He is so sweet!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Tuck is the cutest garden boss. 😊
Thanks for the reminder, James! Patience is key, especially here in Colorado. Your garden is GOALS. Thanks for all the tips!
I’m very jealous of your plants James, they always look great.❤️❤️Tuck.
❤❤❤ I love your videos and seeing Tuck eat the veggies! 😂
totally following that this year will be the best yet! thx for the inspiration♥♥♥
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ for sweet Tuck!
Thank you for the information! Hearts for Tuck!
I'm zone 4B in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. I'm itching to get my starts in before leaving for a couple of weeks. But! We have snow forecasted for the next week. I'm trying to not be impatient! I think I've resigned myself to plant when I return at the end of May. Thanks for the reminder.
Forgetting to label. Guilty as charged.
A journal is so important for great results over the years. Nice Video James.
James & Tuck I am a newbie to your channel & boy where have you been all my life, you taught me more in this 1 video & it was brilliant. Cheers Denise- Australia
I love you Tuck…..❤️💫🐶💫❤️
I have just started watching your videos and I’m blown away at the knowledge you give in every one. I am at the starting stages of gardening and I am so excited to get planting!!!! Thank you so much!!! Looking forward to more and Tuck is truly a little king. Wonderful content. ❤
@gardening in canada has a video explaining why we do not need to plant tomato plants so deep..very interesting video
Great video, wonderful information. Love Tuck, he reminds me of our Niki, she’s been long gone now but still missed! She was the sweetest girl! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just planted my tomatoes that I started in January. They have been very happy and one even has a little tomato on it (not just a flower) I did the same thing last year and they got massive! So maybe seeing flowers isn’t always a bad thing.
Yes! I’ve been holding on to my warm weather crops before putting them in the ground. Especially with the inconsistent weather in our Zone
First time I watched your channel talking about your beautiful garden and many tips for a Health garden and l was so excited to watch your love for the garden 🪴 Keep the good vibes and job going on 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The dog is too cute! 💙
Thank you for all your advice, your videos are brilliant. You are such a nice guy and Tuck is adorable. Thank you for all your hard work, really appreciated. 👏😊😮
This year, I had 4 days of drizzle and clouds in a row. So I didn't harden my cabbage and just put them in the containers. 2 weeks later, that look amazing.
I got value, and I thank you! Plus for the chief doggy ❤❤❤❤❤❤ ! My lab wanted us eating raspberries right off their bushes and has been picking them delicately himself. He definitely has the delivery advantage but we all know the tastiest berries are closest to the sun.
I live in Zone 3B.. almost Zone 4.. I planted 6 cucumbers one year, and seeded more in between the the plants. The seeds caught up, even over took the growth of the potted plants ! I now only start Cuc's by seed right in the garden. They will grow 'when they want to' !
Still to cold here too, I am waiting, and that is what I been letting others know but I do have some squash growing now, Hi Tuck
Tuck is precious!!❤❤❤❤
❤❤ Much Love for you and the lil Boss 😊 thanks for another great vid, may your garden be bountiful! ❤❤ great suggestion with the journal. I have kept one for years myself. When to plant and when to bring things in, what did well, pests encountered and when pollenators and companions bloom to attract things at the right time!
This intro just never gets old!! Love it
Love the channel and advice. I’d like to see plants actually grown in the ground like most every American garden is. Very few use planter boxes , containers. Farmers grow in the earth as do we. It’s not the same. It’s a much tougher grow environment. My 20 year old garden doesn’t look like RUclips gardens. It looks like dirt with straw mulch 😂
Agreed. I'd like to see more realistic gardening happening. If we have another "issue" like 2020, those cutsey raised beds will only take you so far and you won't be purchasing any expensive soil and fertilizer. I'll take my struggle garden (live on a hill, clay soil and LOTS of rock) any day. I'll be exiting this page and finding just that! 👍🏼
@@AmysAttitude my issue is what they call soil is not soil. I don’t know what it is tbh. I’ve probably put 50 bales of straw on my garden over the past 10 years that have decomposed, hand tilled in but, at the end of the day my garden is still clay 😂 We end up giving away 75% of what we can’t consume. Happy Gardening!
I just started a journal for this year. Everything you tell us is valuable I've learned so much and I'm using it as I go into this year's garden. Thank You and Tuck for the lesson to carry us forward.
I wish I loved mustard greens as much as Tuck does. haha. That was adorable. ♥♥♥
Will you do a video on snow peas planting requirements and harvesting?
Very good ❤
Your gardens are beautiful♥️Tucks a cutie and your tips and experience are very informative! Thanks a bunch for your gardening wisdom.
Wow I’m loving your videos and oh my goodness I have been making every mistake you are talking about 🤦♀️ I wasn’t able to garden last year but am this year so I’m learning at 68 years old what to do 🤣😂👍
❤❤❤love your helpful and supportive video!
Love Tucker ❤️ 😍 I always get itchy and get my peppers to early..this year im working on restraint..
Everything the light touches, Tuck 💚💚💚
❤❤❤'s for Tuck as always
❤❤❤❤❤❤ I luv seeing Tucker in your videos!!!
Sometimes we think we are bad at planting something but with time our plants let us know it was were or when we planted that was off, looking for información like this and doing is key to learning to have that dream garden. Plant the same kind of plant in diferente parts of the garden and see the one that does better through the season to start.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ for Tuck😊 Thank you so much for yet another informative video!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ for Tuck and James!!!
100% all great advice.
