- I love my Hidden Woodsmen 25L day ruck so you could only imagine how happy I was to see The Hidden Woodsmen come out with a 35L ruck! Its basically like the day ruck ewith an added kidney belt and side pouches. I chose mine in Pencott Greenzone camo. I show it here and also talk a little about my current winter sleep system.
Oh I almost forgot, heres the link to the pack on the Hidden Woodsmen site thehiddenwoodsmen.com/product/rucksack/
I finally received this video !
How much for the ruck sack? The one your wearing.
@@lanaholmes7098 $287.00
@@Reallybigmonkey1 are they made by a small company here in America? How much for the one your son has? Sorry I've been really looking for a ruk sack I'd even wouldn't mind a ole milarty one but around me there hard to get hands on.
I like the pack but I don't see any molly straps can u get them put on
You packed a lot of information in this video--the packs, the contents, the camo, the sleep system, the reasons for the decisions you make. Always innovative, instructional, and fun. Excellent. Thank you for taking the time to assemble, shoot (Hey, Nick!), edit, and share the video!
You are very welcome David and I'm always happy to share Brother!
Yep. Good stuff.
I like the sleep system you created. You are getting really good at sourcing materials and stitching them together. I hadn't heard about those materials before.
Thanks Doug, I'm glad you liked it. I keep a close eye out for anything that can be repurposed!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Me, too. I'm finding lots of Tyvek (or an equivalent in other brands). But I haven't seen the pallet liner you featured in this video. I will have to keep an eye out.
Lots of love sent out to you also Doug for all your videos . You guys make my day .
I agree with the sentiment of Steve Pedersen. Just watching you and nick in woods is like a mini vacation.
Thanks to you both for all your efforts.
Thanks! We are glad you liked it that much!
Good morning, Dave and Nick
Good morning Doug!
I’m going to use your waterproof bag idea outside of my sleeping bag. I usually just stuff it into my pack. Leaving it outside of the pack will free up more space in the pack. Because, I too like suffering 😂
I learned that trick a few years ago and I rarely go without it in the wet season. Take care and thanks for watching
Malcolm makes incredible gear. He makes what he would use and he considers input from others. Much respect. You always pack your goods so smart. Thanks for sharing with us!
Ih I agree, everything I've gotten from the Hidden Woodsmen has been incredible quality! Thanks for watching brother
That a cool bag. I'm not a fan of green though. But you like it & that's all that matters.
Always glad to see you & the hay oooohhhh boy, Nick, together making memories of a life time. Stories you'll be able to share w/the grand babies.
Always learning from your videos David. You all be safe & God bless,
Chris from Missouri
I think green is absolutely my favorite color! Especially in the summer. I know times change but I hope RUclips is around for a long time for my grandkids to watch these videos. That would be so cool. Thanks for watching and may God bless you too Chris!
Big D " Leader of the Pack" and "Minimal Nick" in the woods. Great looking piece of kit Sir. Always enjoy your project pieces. I'm with you , on the idea that as you get older , you pack stuff that keeps you feeling good. With a much bigger Nick camping with you now, and his minimalist designation, it would be cool to see both of you compete in one of your old school mystery pack of 10 items or 15 items, chosen by the other guy. I'd really like to see a person who gets to live the "realbigmonkey" camping philosophy up close, put his own spin on it. Does the heart good, to know you guys are going to have some beans and bush coffee. Thanks for the info , and the invite to tag along. As always, looking forward to seeing you in the next one.
Thanks Tyler, Im glad you liked it. Amazing how as I get older the way I camp changes, Nick hasnt changed at all. LOL. We do need to do another challenge. Thanks for watching
It shows that your thinking outside the box but at the same time it's well thought through as to what can have more than one use! Outstanding!! Thanks for taking the time to make the videos to both of you. Stay safe out there and have fun. SE TN.
I try my best to always think outside the box when it comes to camping gear. We are glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Paul
This is one of my favorited channel. I especially like it when you explain everything so nicely especially with the southern accent .I found this channel randomly; it is really a channel that produces quality content. I have learn so much .Thank you
Thank you Mario! Im glad you like it that much! Thanks for watching
That camouflage is amazing. I didn't even see ya until ya said 'Heeyyyy everybody' !
It's perfect for my environment here! Thanks for watching Rob
I watch you every week.
This is a great fact-filled video.
I always wait for you boys to make coffee.
Very cool to hear that Ray! Im glad you liked it, we have more coffee to come in the future! Thanks for watching
Howdy Big Monkey its been awhile since I have commented but the old man was inspired today. I like the way you think in regards to building your pack system tall with the pack rather than horizontal, good thinking. For years I have used the Medium Alice Pack and am a believer in the external frame with a shelf on the bottom as it can be used to carry other things (meat, water, wood etc.) Also, I like "pockets" for organization. For example in my case: Pocket 1, Waterproof med kit; Pocket 2, Waterproof fire kit, navigation, small binoculars, tools; Pocket 3, Gloves, cordage, extra socks, beanie hat, neck gator, scarf etc.; Added left side pocket, water bottle, cup, water purification and expandable water storage bag; Added right side pocket, cooking gear. All sleeping attached to bottom shelf. Rain gear, snake gators stored inside top flap.
Hello Richard and Im glad you liked it. Sounds good the way you pack your Alice. Thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 You're welcome buddy! One more thing you might consider trying, I found a plastic trash can that fits perfectly into the ALICE, the idea is to keep the sides of the pack from collapsing making it difficult when rummaging through it. It works great and can also be a water container etc. at camp. Also, you can wrap cordage or repelling line around it for internal storage if desired. You have a great channel and info as always. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge! I watch two or three of your videos each day! My wife thinks I’m 🥜 all the sudden you will say something that cracks me up! Love your ax! Just want you to know that your videos I have been a lifesaver! I was a life long backpacking camping fishing fool! In 2014, I was in a really bad rear end car accident and broke my back and neck, along with a dozen other injuries. Just want you to know that you have changed my life! I’m going back to the woods for the trout opener her in UP Mich! Also love your sewing!
You are very welcome Dennis and I'm glad you've been liking the videos! That car accident sounds horrible but, I'm glad you got through it and you'll be getting out again. Take care and thanks for watching brother
Thank you for this excellent introduction to a good pack, as well as other gear. Your sleep system looks very well-thought-out and highly functional.
I really like the hard container for the fire kit; it makes great sense.😎
You are very welcome and Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Great load out on your kit, thanks for sharing. I like how Hidden Woodsmen put the orange in side.
Thanks Josh! Im glad you liked it. Man Im amazed at how bright that orange makes the inside of the pack! Thanks for watching
I have been keeping my sleeping bag in a drybag, on top of my pack (modded lk35), with my shelter system on the bottom. It means that can leave my kit ready to go, more or less. Just pick a shelter/sleeping bag combination to suit the conditions, stick in the consumables and you're ready to go. Particularly useful if you're working in the woods on and off for half the year.
Nice looking pack. Stick a frame on it and it would be close to ideal.
Sounds like a good set up Jerry!
As usual, you never disappoint in your vids and unique ideas. I love the idea of the palate cover and heat reflective material. Where do you even fine such stuff? Pencott does make a winter/fall camo pattern. I've seen it on military packs from Europe. Great new packs for you both. Just because you don't feel cold doesn't mean you aren't. I learned that the hard way standing in line one winter during the snow. It took me a full day to warm up. Take Care and Stay Safe, y'all.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! I found the reflective material on Amazon under the name non perforated radiant barrier. The heavy green vinyl I found laying on an old discarded pallet! I gotta look that other camo up. Take care and thanks for watching!
Another fun and informative video, Dave! Love the sleep system. I have the MSS… definitely will keep you warm but just so bulky and heavy.
You’ll have to share with us how your system preforms in the very cold weather! The reflective pad at the bottom is a very clever idea. You would do well at developing ideas for an outdoor gear company if you ever decided on something like that.
Looking forward to “Dave’s Dome”!
Lol! Your shelter videos are my favorites! Hey o to Nick!
Thanks Ken! I'm glad you liked it. I need to somehow test my system against the MSS. It'll be hard to test it with Nick tho because he never gets cold. Lol. Take care and thanks for watching brother
Junkyard fox is a big fan of hidden woodsmen products. I enjoyed and looked forward to u and Nicks escapades😊 i would like to see more info on the camp axe.
I havent heard of him, Ill look him up. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching Sam
🙏🏻💗 Your pants really blend in with the surroundings .
Oh I agree, it's the perfect camo for this environment! Thanks for watching Pamela
After a day of stressful BS, I settle in for informative and entertaining knowledge. You and Nick never disappoint.
Fantastic to hear that Steve! Stop by and unwind anytime brother
I agree completely.
I see we've had more snow than you! Ha! Your pants are perfectly camouflaged. "You're not really out here to get fat!" LOL!!! You've really got it all in that pack. Nice to see you guys. 👍😎📷🇨🇦🌲🔥☕
Oh we rarely get snow. Cold yes, snow no. I love that camo for these woods. Thanks for watching Marian!
We thought both rucksacks were great loved the pattern on your one Dave. Another enjoyable video cheers. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Michelle, Im glad you liked them both! Thanks for watching
I like the big rocket pouches. looks quite similar to those 40L Norwegian military packs, a few vintage pack designs. Very functional. Bucket style opening -- the best
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Yep, it is a lot like it
Looks like a really well done pack, nice size and love the camo pattern!
Oh it's tough as nails! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for watching
Pencott is the absolute king .They got the "Badlands camou" Wildwood, and winter i believe .I bought the Wildeood camou complete uniform with a hat .Pencott is also NIR (Non infrared reflecting) complient so you are invisible to the FLIR"s (forward looking infrared radar)many european army adopted as summer fatigue .They make you invisible in the summer i swear.Airsoft people loves them very much cause allowes very close hits.So happy that it found you .Love you brother blessings to you and your son.
Oh I agree! I recently ordered some Pencott Badlands material for a tarp. I had no idea of the IR capabilities. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching Angus
Hey Dave. I like your sleep pad ground cover. Hidden woodsman stuff is more expensive than I like to spend. Good stuff, just too pricey for me. I like your handmade stuff. Can't wait to see your shelter from a golf cart cover. I'll see you on the next one 07
Thanks man, Im glad you liked it. Its high but that what has to happen for handmade items. The gold cart cover will be new territory for me. Lol. Thanks for watching
Great seeing you back again . I'll start the video in the morning . But I'll be sure to view it all . Love your videos
Fantastic to hear that Stuart! And thanks for watching
Hard To Go Wrong With Malcomb's Gear Great Stuff There Davey, Hay Nick. ATB T God Bless

THANK YOU Very much Dear Dave, the rucksack seems great - Have a nice weekend friend
You are very welcome and you have a great weekend too Ofer!
There is always great information in your videos. Showing how you pack yours helps give ideas of how to pack our own. Great one. Hello to you and Nick.
Thank you Tressa! And We are glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Hello David and Nick, stay safe and warm, from Houston tx
Hello Lewis and thanks! You stay safe too brother
Hey guys, love that pack and the vid. And Dave, beside the toilet paper, you need a mini shovel !
Thanks, We are glad you liked it Julius! Oh yes, those two things are a must have! Thanks for watching
Really nice video, thanks very much. I have a great down small comforter, your showing of that blanket gives me permission to take the
At on the trail. I just bought a Condor Kephart knife I am looking forward to carrying and using on my next trip. I am taking your advice and pairing it with a stainless 4" knife to use in food prep. I chose the Buk 102 woodsman, since it was already in my collection. I will cry both on my next four night canoe adventure in Florida.
Thanks Brian, Im glad you liked it. That down comforter will be perfect for that canoe trip. Thanks for watching
Good stuff Dave & Nick. I don't take an axe as I've no need for one at this stage of my journey. I'm going to use alcohol or gas stoves mainly or a bushbox to cook with and avoid fires as much as I can, reason being most of my camps are stealth camps and a fire will give you away - you might as well set off flares - "Hey I'm Here" - as I'll be on someone else's land.
I do like the pack, not sure that the camo isn't too light in colour and if they took the shine off it too - maybe toned down it would be fine all year or as Nick says have two. I hang boots in a bag in the vestibule of the tent or off the daisy of a hammock. My socks - thick wool with a synthetic thinner sock underneath or over the top, allow for warmth and the clean replacements go in a bag with my spare clothes at the bottom of my sleeping bag.
We are glad you liked it Mark and thanks for the comments
Love your new pack, enjoyed how you've put together your sleep system, smart. Yep that camo is fascinating.
Thanks Sharon, Im glad you liked it all! Thanks for watching
Superb mattress pad Dave. You could get rich selling those . Thanks for sharing so much knowledge with us . Roll Tide from central Alabama and congrats to the Georgia Bulldogs !
Thanks, Im glad you liked it that much! Thanks for watching
David, just a thank you, everytime I hear you say "Hey everbody" I don't care what type of mood I am in I get a smile. So again Thank You!
Very cool to hear that! I'm glad it lifts your mood and thanks for watching
Dave, you talk about camo patterns like we ladies talk about seasonal dresses! Adorable! I think Nick is right about the blend he wears as more year round, but maybe there is a compromise - pixel design, but some darker greens. Thanks for showing how much a 35 ltr. pack can carry!
Lol! Im a sucker for camo. Pencott makes two other versions with more brown and less green. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Thanks Dave and Nick for another great video, I just love your videos, whenever I just need to relax I head to my notifications bell to see if you've uploaded another video yet, tonight this one was there, if not I just search through your videos and find one I haven't watched yet, thanks again and, I shall, see you in the next one...
You are very welcome Derek and I thank you for keeping up with my videos!
Thanks for the video. I love these kind of videos. Looks like a great rucksack. Very interesting. 👍👍
You are very welcome Ian and Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
Your information about your sleep system was very useful. Thanks!
Thanks Rich! I'm glad you liked it brother
Another AWESOME video Dave and nick!!!!! Great job!!!I just absolutely love your channel!!!!!God bless you guys
Thanks Nick! We are glad you liked it and may God bless you too brother
Man ! That is a great camo pattern ! That comes as close as anything I have seen , to matching the " bright " vivid greens of summer . Have always wondered why they don't make a camo closer to nature in the summer . A tent in that pattern , and you'd blend in great . I like that pack . But ole Gubs has waaaaay too many already :D Interesting take on a pillow . Yes , you sure did , get a lot of stuff in the 35 L . Be safe out there folks .... Gubs
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. They do sell this fabric so a tarp or tent could easily be made out of it! Might be a future project for me? Thanks for watching Gubs!
@@Reallybigmonkey1 Well IMO. If you use that same camo for either . You will blend in great it looks like . We had woodland & Tigers . Depending , the Tigers were better .
hey Nick, glad to see you helping your father. been watching for years and I sense how proud of your father you are, as we all are. Always entertaining, comical, yet packed full of good tried and true info...he is a treasure to us all...peace
Thank you so much Alan! We absolutely cherish our relationship and time together
I have watched many of your videos & learned quite a lot from them...I like that you are "hands on " about your product reviews and only rate them by your direct experience with them 😉. This was an excellent presentation 👏 & gave me a great base of thought concerning packable needs for the wilderness...Thanks...oh & btw I luv the way you do machete lanyards (around the thumb) & have adapted this method for most of my knives as well...very comfortable & secure...keep up the good work...you may be saving lives without knowing...
Fantastic to hear that John and I'm glad you're liking the videos! That lanyard method should absolutely be adopted by all outdoors folks. Take care and thanks for watching
As always, another excellent video on a new piece of kit. I could not believe just how much equipment you were able to get in that new rucksack 😃. I did like the unusual cammo but agreed with Nick that it would be better in summer and stand out a bit more in winter. I also like to have a hydration bladder in my rucksacks as I tend to be more inclined to drink often that way. The sleep system is superb and I learnt from you a long time ago, to have a complete change of clothes for sleeping in👍. I liked the idea of the round tin holding dry firelighting materials in too! I have a tin just like it, but never thought to use it for that! Many thanks again, both of you, for another great video. Always appreciated 👍👍👍.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I guess over the years I've learned a lot about packing. This pack is really going to excel in the spring and summer! Take care and thanks for watching Spencer
Love them camo pants!!! You could barely see your bottom half at 0.07 into the vid. NICE! Great gear review!
Thanks Carolyn! For this area, that's definitely the perfect camo pattern! Take care and thanks for watching
Really nice pack, I like the space and kidney belt.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it
Great job as always, thank you Nick and David.
Thanks Brother! We are glad you liked it
Great system! Greetings from the woods in Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Malcolm makes great packs and pouches!
Absolutely!
Another spectacular video, gents! :-). That’s a nice bags all right. The first thing I noticed when you open the first pic was the bright orange reflection, and right away I could see that it would make a huge difference when it came to finding something in the bag. Thanks for the tour of your rucks’ contents; there’s lots of food for thought In that presentation.
It was nice to see your set up and your new system for sleeping; I was hoping to be a bit at the end so that you guys could reflect on the new system in the morning, having test driven it overnight. Because really, no matter how impressive a system looks, and no matter how well thought out, it’s experience that tells us if it achieved everything you set out to achieve. I don’t mind telling you that I’m paying close attention to the new things that you’re doing with your sleep set up, with an eye to getting mine back to the point where I can get comfortable sleeping on the ground without having to pack a cot.
PS. As Nick videod Dave of walking away with the new pack on, all I could think is that if the colours are slightly different, it would be really easy to put that bag down and walk away a few feet, only to have trouble finding it again. It’s amazing what’s a visual pattern technology is coming to. It was dazzling!
Thanks, Im glad you liked it Daphne! The sleep system works very well, at least for Georgia. For extreme cold Im not sure yet. Since I was showcasing the pack I didnt want to drag the video into the next Moring. Pencott makes several other camo patterns with this same technology if you have time to look them up.Thanks for watching
Hay Dave and Nick , hope things are good down south , Icy and snow here .
That pack looked good and I liked the camo too and it looked plenty big enough. I use a ILBE pack , I can get all my gear in the top and I do get a lot of food in the bottom to get fat in the woods 😆 I love to eat when I’m in the woods for some reason it just taste better.
Thanks for the video and your views on these subjects it has help me out on a lot of things to do to make it easier.
Have a good weekend and be safe out there.
Hello Johnny! Its cold down south but no snow or ice. I used to eat like a hog in the woods but Ive sloed down. Must be age. Lol. Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
That’s a dandy ground cloth Dave! Great video

Thanks Gary! I'm glad you liked em both!
Malcolm does it again, nice pack. That is a nice loadout for that pack. The sleep system you made is definitely lighter weight and less bulky than the MSS. Y'all stay safe.

Thank you for the video! I had a bit of a rough day at work and watching you helped me forget about it for some reason. ;-}}
Im sorry to hear about your day but Im happy it lifted your spirits David!
Great video on your pack. My buddy was looking around for a new pack so i sent him your video to check it out. Thanks for the video
Thanks, Im glad you liked it and thats great to hear! Thanks for watching
I don't know how likely it is to find the right size, but that plastic backing reminded me of a fresnel lens sheet which would be a great backup for getting a fire going if you have the sun available plus you'd still have some support/stiffening. But you couldn't really use it as a cutting board/table/etc. Another great video. You can pack/organize an amazing amount of gear in a 35L day pack.
I never thought about a fresnel lens but that's a great idea! I'll look into that. After years of backbreaking trips I finally got packing down pat! Take care and thanks for watching!
I like the water proof material....and I'm pretty sure that plastic piece is a spine protector...plus stiffens the pack.....great video as usual!!
I'm glad you liked it brother!
really enjoyed the video sir good looking rucksack
Thanks Brother! I'm glad you liked it and thanks for stopping by
that ground sheet with the reflective material is a great idea . i would imagine there would be a market for them, id buy one.
I'm glad you liked that! It is very nice to have around. Thanks for watching my friend
Very informative video you should sell the ground mat, thanks for this video, had fun as always 👍
Thanks, Im glad you liked it. Oh man if I havd the backing to make this I bet Id sell a bunch! Thanks for watching Harold
Glad to see you getting some down time we been on 6 and 7 days since we got back to work after Christmas
Everyone needs some down time! Thanks for watching Gus

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Good Morning. Good Deal. Have a GREAT Sunday. TAKE CARE..
Great backpack Dave! Enjoy it! 👍😁
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it
I really like that camo pattern. I’m like Nick, I like to pack lite as possible. Notice when you were walking that pack looks very stable, thanks to the kidney belt. If I was carrying a pack that size I would probably only fill it to bout 60% capacity. Amazing though how much gear you can get in those side pockets. With any pack I prefer pockets on the side rather than the back, makes the pack more stable. I’m gonna look for one of those down blankets. I always put my sleep gear and xtra clothing in a dry bag. Back in the day didn’t have that stuff. Thanks to you and Nick for a great video, I really enjoyed it.
Thanks, Im glad you liked it Alan. I agree, side pockets are so much better than back pouches. I found that down blanket on Amazon. Its been good so far! Thanks for watching
Hi Dave, another great video of "What's in Daves bag". Maybe sometime you'd show me/us how you set your sewing machine up to sew that reflective stuff to that waterproof stuff. Also, maybe sometime when Nick isn't around you can show us where you stash your Snickers bars. I wouldn't want my son around when I'm dumping my bag out and a dozen Snickers fall out. I think that green camo would be great in a spring and early summer environment. I need to work on a ground pad to go under my air mattress. P.S. My boots aren't going anywhere near my head when I'm sleeping.
Hello Ralph and I'm glad you liked it! I don't do anything special with my machine. It's a Singer 4423 heavy duty so it's no big deal to go through thick stuff. Lol, Nick and I keep separate chocolate stashes. Take care and thanks for watching
@@Reallybigmonkey1 I like the idea of separate sweets stashes. That way no body gets shorted. I have an early 60's Singer 503A that chomps through the heavy stuff pretty well too. Does your machine have an adjustable presser foot and if it does, do you adjust it light or heavy for that reflective stuff onto that kind of rubbery, strong stuff. No tarps for me unless I'm under it while it's raining. By myself it's a TCOP and with my dog it's a TC2P. Thanks to you and Nick for all the great videos.
Thanks for another great video. I do not know much about the inflatable sleeping pad that you briefly showed and spoke about, but I was surprised that it seems to offer insulation enough for you to not place one half of the down "blanket" under you, even though it would be compressed and less effective than if not. :) _John_
You are very welcome John and I'm glad you liked it! That sleeping pad has actual insulation fibers inside it. Amazing for an inflatable pad. Take care and thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing your pack contents with us. I like your choices and your rationale.
Thanks Ben, Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
New subscriber. If there’s not already a video. Nick should show what he usually brings in his minimalist pack. Love the content btw
I'm glad you like my channel Danny and that's a good idea for a video! Thanks for the sub and thanks for watching
Great video. I've had the Endor camo verison for about a month now and I love it. That sure is a shiny axe! Great advice about sleeping with dirty clothes.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Oh man that axe is my pride and joy. I take care of it. Thanks for watching brother
Thanks Dave and Nick for another fun video
We are glad you liked it Alan and thanks for watching!
Dave I carry a 70liter bag and it holds the whole house!! But man the stuff you pulled out of that bag made me feel a little inferior ha ha! Great video sir as always. Morning to ya nick!! I definitely love crazy camo patterns will check into those bags as well!!

I really like that pack the camo is great when you set it down its like it disappeard that orange flag would be good for navigating in thick cover the way you showed in a previous video great video see you on the next one
Thanks Gene, Im glad you liked it. Man them camo pants are absolutely perfect for this environment! Thanks for watching
As usual another great video. Thank you for sharing your great ideas.

Really nice kit! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Nicks not going ultra light, he's just got you carrying some of the kit he should be carrying 😂
Lol! Here's does like the axe!
Hi Dave, I've been enjoying your videos for years now and am revisiting a lot of them since I am recovering from knee surgery and can't get out much. I learn as much or more the second and third time that I watch a video as the first time. I live in central Texas and have similar land, some pine, but a lot of post oak and massive amounts of undergrowth. I also appreciate bushcraft from a place with relatively hot and humid temperatures. I see lots of bushcraft that show videos about keeping warm, but not so many about dealing with heat and humidity. Now for my question: Durag versus Boonie hat. You have talked about the benefits of both, but I usually see you in a durag. When I hike it is hot, humid, and I go through a lot of thickets (lots of Greenbriar, poison ivy, cacti, and yaupon). I usually wear a hat because it protects my eyes somewhat as I go through the brush and I am sensitive to glare. My son often wears a fisherman's hat (which has material hanging down the back to protect the back of the neck. My dad use to wear a Boonie hat with a bandana hanging out of the back. What are your thoughts? or maybe I should go to bushcraft USA.
Hello and I'm glad to hear you're going through the videos! My take on headwear is if I'm under the forest canopy I like a dorag. If I know there's thicket I have to charge through or I'll be out in a field of on the water I'll opt for a boonie hat. The difference between the two would definitely make a good thread on Bushcraft USA. Take care and thanks for watching
This system is awesome , short of getting down on the ground. Lol
I bought a Lynx mountaineering tent that I place on my cot and a couple of thin mattresses to throw into the tent.
Not good for packing distances but works fantastic for my needs.
It's terrible getting old.
Thanks Amy, I'm glad you liked it. The ground ain't for everyone but Ive figured out how to make it comfortable! I'm 54 so old is knocking at my door. Lol, take care and thanks for watching
Nice bit of kit there. Thru the years I've used everything from a gym bag to an army issue dufflebag to haul my gear. I currently use an old style metal frame backpack. While not as fancy as an Alice pack or the Hidden Wodsman, it gets the job done. Like Nick, I'm a minimalist. I tried the "ultralight" rout once before, but the gear tends to be pricey and not as durable as I need. Good lob on the pack, good job on your modifications and very good job on explaining what to pack and how to pack it. Thumbs up!
Thanks Brother, I'm glad you liked it. How very true, ultralight gear is high priced and absolutely not durable. I like cheap, homemade and military surplus. My only exception is Hidden Woodsmen and certain axe and knife companies. Take care and thanks for watching
