Oil in mixers doesn't break down as quickly as oil in say, a car engine, because there is very little heat involved. Just keep an eye on it every 6 months or so. Check to make sure the oil is still the proper color and doesn't look watery. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!!

You do not have to replace the oil very often. Once per year should be just fine. And you should always use 90w-140w foodgrade oil. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Hi, the planetary fill plug is not an allen wrench but it’s square the 1/4 inch is too small and 3/8 too big. Is there a special tool hobart uses to unscrew this plug ?

The 3/4 inch bolt under the planetary is to drain it. It should be drained then filled until the oil runs out of the allen screw hole. I used to work for Hobart.

Close but no cigar I don't often see V1401 Mixers around anymore so it is really hard for me to get video of it. But, from what you are describing it sounds like you may need a new Planetary Seal (Part # P-68045). But to change it, the whole planetary has to has to come down and as long as that is coming down you should change the Bearing as well (Part # BB-9-45). It may not be necessary, but Part #s D-67500-21, P-64384-2, and M-67903 could also be contributing and you may want to request the technician have them on hand when doing this job, just in case. I do not recommend any tech who doesn't have adequate Hobart training try to do this as it can get a little complex. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!!
Hi. Can you please let me know how often I should change the oil of my mixer? I just got a used one and I am changing the oil tonight but I would like to know how often we should do this. Thanks very much.
I'm sorry, I really don't know. I've never heard of that brand. You can always call the manufacturer and ask them. Sorry I couldn't help, but thanks for watching!
Yes you can. And honestly, if you changed the oil once every 2 years or so you'd be fine. It doesn't break down as quickly as it does in a vehicle or any other piece of machinery that generates heat. Oil in a mixer can last a very long time. Thanks for watching!
Looking on the internet everybody servicing Hobart mixer seems to have an opinion on what lubricant to use. The Hobart Service Manual I have for the H600/P660/L800 calls for "Mobile Gear 634" for the gear box. As to the planetary, for model with a Planetary oil pump use the same oil "Mobile Gear 634".Without a Planetary oil pump use "Chevron FM EP NLGI 2". The slideways and Bowl lift screws. should be lubricated with a light coat of "Lubriplate 630AA" The bowl lift gearing should be lubricated with "Chevron FM EP NLGI 2"
I just got a used 60qt. I have power, but nothing happens. You can hear the click and see the break activate when pressing the Stop button. Any clue? Also what oil does the machine take? Thanks
Arthur D'Addario Unfortunately the issue you are describing could be the result of several things. In this order I would check the following 1) Safety switches (Bowl lift [located behind the lifting mechanism silver panel], Cage Magnet/Switch [if equipped with a cage], or transmission micro switch [located behind the silver plate that indicates the gears]) 2) The Timer (if equipped with timer) 3) the Start Switch or 4) the micro switch attached to the contactor itself. I always recommend Hobart brand oil for their machines, but if you scroll down and look at some of the past comments there may be some useful information there ;-) Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
Hi, I have a HL800 Legacy, 80-Quart mixer, can I know which type of transmission suitable to use? I searched online, some recommends 40W, food grade and some recommends 90W food grade. Btw impressive video! Thanks!
Hi. Thank you for this video. It was very informative. Can you please explain and get more into the type of oil to use. For Their are many kinds out their. Looking forward to viewing more of your videos. Again thank you.
+chris a Unfortunately I walk a fine line in recommending a specific oil to use since Hobart always recommends using "Hobart" oil. What I CAN say is that anything under a 90w Gear Oil would be too light for a Hobart H600 ;-) Thanks for watching!
I'll tell you EXACTLY what type of oil to use and why! As a former Hobart Tech who worked on 100's of these mixers, you use Hobarts Mobilgear 634. The reason is that this is FOODGRADE oil and safe to use when working with food preparation. If you want petroleum oils leaking into your mixing bowls, IF they do leak, then you're possibly dealing with Health Standard issues. Now you know!
I posted the actual Hobart lubricant requirement from the service manual up ^^^ in response to another user. The gear oil recommended by Hobart (Mobile Gear 634) is very expensive ($40 a quart) - A cheaper option is to use Mobil Gear 600 XP 150 which sells for less that $30 a gallon. Here is a link to the H600 Service Manual which has the lubricant requirements - www.manualslib.com/manual/1064440/Hobart-H600.html
Ebony Hall I always recommend using the oil that Hobart supplies. There is other gear oil you can use, but I cannot guarantee it will provide the correct lubrication and may damage your mixer. What I CAN tell you is that anything under 90w is wayyy too light for an H600 ;-)
That sounds like the overloads are shutting the unit down. That will happen under a heavy or too heavy load. The overload assy uses small heater assys. that will trip the thermal overload on larger units. After the overload cools down it will reset.
Yes, there are 2 locations. There is the transmission oil (up top under the lid) and there is the planetary (behind the J-Cup) just below the transmission (right above where the hook goes on). They both take the same oil. Thanks for watching!
Basically you just never want them to dry up completely. My preventative maintenance plans usually include a greasing ever 3 months. That should do the trick! Thanks for watching!
Lisa, I am SO sorry, not sure how your comment slipped through the cracks. Here is how to change the oil: Planetary To check, DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY and remove the drip cup-splash guard, which is secured by three screws. Remove the Planetary Fill Plug. Oil should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole. If the oil is not at the proper level, slowly add the recommended planetary lubricant until the proper level is achieved. Replace the fill plug and the drip cup-splash guard. A Planetary Drain Plug is located on the bottom of the planetary. Should draining become necessary, remove the drip cup-splash guard and place a suitable catch pan under the drain plug. Remove the drain plug, allow the oil to completely drain, and replace the drain plug. Remove the fill plug and pour in 6 fluid ounces of the recommended planetary lubricant. Replace the fill plug and the drip cup-splash guard. Contact your local Hobart Service Office for the recommended planetary lubricant. Transmission The transmission oil should be even with the line on the oil level gauge when the motor is NOT running. If the oil falls below this line, DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY and remove the top cover, which is secured by two screws. Remove the Transmission Fill Plug and add a small amount of the recommended transmission oil until it returns to the proper level. DO NOT overfill the transmission - leakage may result. Hook To install, place hook over the shaft and make sure the pin is in the channel. Rotate to lock in place (hook should drop slightly and pin should rest in channel). To Remove, Lift the hook and rotate in opposite direction. Drop down and remove from shaft.
Thanks for the helpful video. Would you be able to make a similar one for the Hobart N50 tabletop mixer by any chance? (It doesn't have a lid that lifts off like the 60QT one.) Mine is slowly dripping blue oil into the bowl and after several years of this, I'm worried the level might be dropping too low inside. (It doesn't have a sight gauge either to tell the level.) Thanks again for posting!
+Robert Enenkel If I can get my hands on an N50 I will be sure to post a video on it. It sounds like you may just need new planetary seals. And, if I'm not mistaken, the N50 used grease instead of oil which is why its blue and you don't have a sight glass. Over time, the grease breaks down, just as oil does, and can become runny allowing it to drip. As soon as I come across an N50 I'll be sure to post some videos and let you know. Thanks for watching!
+Windy City Restaurant Equipment Repair you have to bring the planetary down from screw in the middle. very carefully cause it's heavy. and if it breaks is going to be hell to replace that piece. clean it and all grain s.make site they're is no residue.or fragments.the put food grade grease. put planetary back on and turn on. make sure it's all the way up or grains will break
The sight glasses are pressed in. To replace you need to drain the oil below the glass, pry out the old one, and then press in the new one. Make sure you use sealant on the new one! You don't want it to leak.
Thanks for the reply. Do you push it out from the inside or just pry it from the outside? What type of sealant? A gasket sealant like you'd put on an oil pan?
It doesn't really matter if you push it out or pry it out. I've done it both ways and the important thing is that it comes out haha. The new sight glass comes complete with bezel so you don't really have anything to worry about if you damage the old one. Just pop the old one out, clean the inside edges of the hole, and put a bead of silicone sealant around the new one. Press it in tight. Be sure not to hammer on the sight glass itself. Often, I've used a small block of wood so I can put pressure on the whole sight glass at one time and gently tap it in with a mallet. Clean excess silicone off the edge when you're done and you're all set! Thanks for watching!
Michelle Urps It is very similar on the M802 mixers, but not exactly the same. Instead of there being a pipe on the top of the transmission that unthreads to expose the "fill hole" there is a dedicated bolt that you will need to unthread. However, because it is a closed system, there shouldn't be a need to change the oil ever unless it is contaminated. The only way that would happen is if the seals are bad in your square drive (where the attachments go in) and product discharge is seeping into it. Hope this helps! And thanks for watching!
Ariana - Thank you for the comment and I apologize for not going more in-depth on this subject in this video. We do plan on doing a full tutorial on changing the oil in the near future. But to answer your question, these mixers take Hobart specific oil that is only available from Hobart or a Hobart authorized service company. Contact your local Hobart representative for pricing. Hopefully this helps you, and if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask!
This could be many things, but most likely the planetary is overfilled. If it wasnt manually overfilled then the chimney seal is most likely bad and the whole transmission would have to come apart to re-seal it. Usually about $700-1000 job. Hope this helps a bit. Thanks for watching!
Windy City Restaurant Equipment Repair: My employer has told me stories of her 60 qt paddle breaking on the mixer. My question is how does that happen? Is it because the paddle is weak? or is it because it was improperly attached to the mixer? My employer does not fully know how the paddle broke. I'm just curious to find how or even why the paddle might have broken. And by the way this wasn't recent and was not broken by me.
Rebekah, I've seen this happen before. First, I would ask how the paddle was washed. It CANNOT be put through the dishwasher, ever. The acidity in the chemicals weaken the metal. It also could be that the paddle was not on all of the way and put too much tension on the weakest point OR it could be that the bowl stop is broken so the bowl was lifted too far and the bottom of the paddle hit the bottom of the bowl. I have seen that before too. Hopefully this helps, sorry for the delayed response!
@@Windycityequip I have also seen problems where the pin on the beater shaft is worn and the dough hook slot for the pin was badly worn and enlarged. In those cases it is not uncommon for the hook to break and the pin to break off which makes for a lot of fun trying to get the hook off and the pin replaced. You can tell if the hook wobbles badly on the beater shaft when you wiggle the hook. Retired from Hobart after 42 years and the stories I could tell...lol.
I wouldn't recommend it for a long period of time. Also try to transport in an upright position. I will say that the A200 uses grease, not oil, so unless the grease has liquefied, you shouldnt get a lot of leakage like you would in an H600 or L800. But I still worry about something getting dislodged or displaced by transporting on its side. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!!

Sir, pls make some video on rational combi oven maintenance
I will add it to the list. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hi. Can you please let me know how often I should change the oil of my mixer? I just got a used one and I am changing the oil tonight but I would like to know how often we should do this. Thanks very much.
Service manual says every three years depending on usage. More frequent for the planetary due to small amount of oil.
Could you advise what type of gear oil I would require for Fimar meat mincer model TR22TE. Thanks.
I'm sorry, I really don't know. I've never heard of that brand. You can always call the manufacturer and ask them. Sorry I couldn't help, but thanks for watching!
Can i use the same oil for both planetary and transmission and how often should i change oil on both
Yes you can. And honestly, if you changed the oil once every 2 years or so you'd be fine. It doesn't break down as quickly as it does in a vehicle or any other piece of machinery that generates heat. Oil in a mixer can last a very long time. Thanks for watching!
Hi
can you tell me what type of oil is better to use for hobart H 600 ?please help me to figure out?
Smko Kurdistan See the comment below for an answer to this question ; - ) Thanks for watching!
What kínd
What oil should i use?
Do you have any guide tips on replacing a Agitator/Beater shaft pin Hobart part#111156 on the Hobart H600?
nicolas martinez Not yet, but that's next on the list for Hobart videos! Stay tuned and I'll get one made as soon as I can. Thanks for watching!
What if we added sew machine oil to gears on the inside
Was tryin to make it easier to raise bc store hasn't done anything
@@elizabethcholka70 If you mean the bowl lift, you can use grease on the lift screw and nut. Something like wheel bearing grease would work just fine.
U really help me and make me save money
Aziz Shah I'm Very glad that you enjoy our videos. Our goal is to help! Thanks for watching!
Hi, I have a HL800 Legacy, 80-Quart mixer, can I know which type of transmission suitable to use? I searched online, some recommends 40W, food grade and some recommends 90W food grade. Btw impressive video! Thanks!
Go with the 90w for that machine. 40w is way too thin. Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I have the same unit but what kind of oil does it take? thanks
What kind of oil is recommended for use 5w? 10w 30? 40? motorcycle oil :)?
Ebony Hall I always recommend using the oil that Hobart supplies. There is other gear oil you can use, but I cannot guarantee it will provide the correct lubrication and may damage your mixer. What I CAN tell you is that anything under 90w is wayyy too light for an H600 ;-)
What would cause the mixer to stop during a mixing cycle? After about 1-2 minutes it’s started again.
That sounds like the overloads are shutting the unit down. That will happen under a heavy or too heavy load. The overload assy uses small heater assys. that will trip the thermal overload on larger units. After the overload cools down it will reset.
I have a question, Is there are two ol locations for oils ? If so , are they the same or different type of oil in each location ?
Yes, there are 2 locations. There is the transmission oil (up top under the lid) and there is the planetary (behind the J-Cup) just below the transmission (right above where the hook goes on). They both take the same oil. Thanks for watching!
The spec fir oil in the planetary is different than fur the transmission … you don’t state that the oils are dufferentb
Nice video.......Where can I get the oil?
You can usually find the food grade oil online. Just search google. Usually prices are better than Hobart or a Supply Store.
how often do you need to regrease the threads for the crank?
Basically you just never want them to dry up completely. My preventative maintenance plans usually include a greasing ever 3 months. That should do the trick! Thanks for watching!
Does the rule " every time you change transmission oil, you change planetary oil" apply to Hobart D300 mixer also?
No, most of the D300 mixer actually use grease instead of oil so it tends to not break down as quickly. Thanks for watching!
Now I need a hand figuring out the wiring layout on her..
Thank you SO much!
Can you tell me how to remove a dough hook and change oil for a Hobart model 802
Lisa, I am SO sorry, not sure how your comment slipped through the cracks. Here is how to change the oil:
Planetary
To check, DISCONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY and remove the drip cup-splash guard, which is secured by three screws.
Transmission
The transmission oil should be even with the line on the oil level gauge when the motor is NOT running.
Hook
To install, place hook over the shaft and make sure the pin is in the channel. Rotate to lock in place (hook should drop slightly and pin should rest in channel). To Remove, Lift the hook and rotate in opposite direction. Drop down and remove from shaft.
Ok sounds good thanks for your help wce i just found your channel and i will keep watching.
Thanks Juan! Have a great weekend!
That oil is getting into your product. Use grease
How do you replace the sight glass?
Thank you and I appreciate your help!
Very well presented. Thumbs up Dude
Paul Tsasa Thanks for watching!
I wonder if anyone already asked you this since I didn’t hear you mentioned in your video. What kind of oil do you use to change old oil?
Thanks!
hi, what kind the oil you put that mixer?
More maintenance please
Do you know how to replace the grease on a D300 and which type of grease to use? thanks
+Zvi Schiff I emailed you basic instructions on how to do this. Thanks for watching!
Can I get the instruccions for the D300? Thank you
I'd like a copy also if you don't mind. I've been looking for a tutorial for a week. Thanks, George
how do you remove the guard to change the oil?
If you're talking about the cage, its 3 screws on the collar. Thanks for watching!
Is this the same for the Hobart M802 as well?
Michelle Urps It is very similar on the M802 mixers, but not exactly the same. Instead of there being a pipe on the top of the transmission that unthreads to expose the "fill hole" there is a dedicated bolt that you will need to unthread. However, because it is a closed system, there shouldn't be a need to change the oil ever unless it is contaminated. The only way that would happen is if the seals are bad in your square drive (where the attachments go in) and product discharge is seeping into it. Hope this helps! And thanks for watching!
Palm to the forehead. Lol a "close system"?
Ariana - Thank you for the comment and I apologize for not going more in-depth on this subject in this video. We do plan on doing a full tutorial on changing the oil in the near future. But to answer your question, these mixers take Hobart specific oil that is only available from Hobart or a Hobart authorized service company. Contact your local Hobart representative for pricing. Hopefully this helps you, and if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask!
Great info..you we're a huge help thank you.sir.and yes i subscribed😃
how do you fix the oil leak above the planetary
Retired from Hobart after 42 years and the stories I could tell...lol.
hi. can i lay a hobart a200 on its side for transport
How much oil in the main gear section and what type? Thankyou!
Anywhere between 90w -140w will work just fine. I'm unsure exactly how much it holds, but just fill until the oil reaches the center line on the sight glass 👍 Thanks for watching!
my head shaft is leaking, how can I solve this problem.
That usually means that the oil is overfilled. The oil level should be below the front shaft hub.
thank you
hi sir can u please upload the video, how to service hobart N50 mixer, same as shown in hobart A200.
agnelo fernandes I am sorry it is taking me so long. I will try to get videos up soon. I've just been swamped lately! Thank you for your patience and thanks for watching!
Hi does anyone here knows how much oil is to be put in it. I can’t tell by the little window. My Hobart mixer is so old or something. Can any one please tell me how much oil is supposed to be in the machine. Thank you for any help.
One gallon
