  • A review of the Cambridge Cameo Standard Reference Bible with Apocrypha, CD257A. ISBN: 0521509467, 9780521509466. This older Cameo has a sewn binding; opaque paper; the words of Christ in black; a Bible dictionary; and gilt (but not art-gilt) page edges. It is printed in a small (8 pt) font in a double-column, verse-by-verse format, with page-ordered references in a center column. The cover is a stiff, black calfskin leather, much less flexible than the calfskin cover on the more recent red letter Cameo with Apocrypha (the KJ455:XRA). It came in an attractive slipcase. In this video, I compare the font in this older Cambridge Cameo with that in the newer Cameo, the Oxford Brevier Clarendon (Allan 6C), and the Oxford Brevier Black-face.

    I notice that I neglected to change the title on the third "Details" chart. My apologies. I believe all the other information on that chart is correct.

    Yay! Love those old Cambridge slip cases they were beautiful and very sturdy. And of course the Cameo is my favourite Cambridge typeface. Thanks for sharing brother.

    I didn't realize that Cambridge made a Cameo that came with both the dictionary & Apocrypha, so unique. All it needs now is the translators to the reader, maybe a glossary & goatskin :)

    Love these reviews. Would you consider doing a review on or pointing out when you so these what are the gold standards or best of it's kind for a particular feature? Ie... Here is a excellent example of line spacing, or font darkness, or line matching, or binding, etc. Would be nice to see the finest examples. Thanks for this good work that you do.

    Thank you for the review! Do you know of any decent, reasonably priced modern editions of the KJV with Apocrypha? (I mean ones that are printed with modern type etc. like this Bible, not facsimiles of very old copies like many of the "1611" ones appear to be.) I'd like to read the KJV more, but I'm Catholic and it would be nice to be able to have the Apocrypha with my Bible when I take it with me or when I'm reading.

    I love my little Clerandon quit picking on him, I know he's shady but he's always been their for me.😀
    Oh boy those old slip covers are special, that's the first premium I ever laid my eyes on. Back when there were bible stores that actually had premiums behind the counter...yep kids they existed. I remember slipping it out of the box and going wow beautiful, then saying wow $130😳😲LOL
    I really love the paper and dictionary, the font only looks inferior next to their new bold font. By itself its amazing, that's why I never set my Turquoise next to my Schuyler 😁

    • @RGrantJones
      @RGrantJones  5 лет назад +3

      I *like* the Clarendon. Just wish Allen had their printers use heavier paper. But maybe they want it thin so they don't have to use as much goatskin.
      The thing I like most about that older Cameo is the smell of the leather. (The newer one is practically odorless.)

    • @Airik1111bibles
      @Airik1111bibles 5 лет назад +2

      @@RGrantJones The thin paper from yesteryear didn't have ghosting like today. I do like nice paper but some of these bibles are getting way to heavy. My Schuyler feels like a brick of gold, its beautiful but boy is it heavy.
      That leather smell and not laying down flat is most likely caused from that awesome box design. I wish they had kept it and just updated the picture instead.
      Another great review brother.

    • @RGrantJones
      @RGrantJones  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, it's early modern English. The Challoner revision of the Douay-Rheims is similar. Here's a review: ruclips.net/video/Rk6FE_sw5tM/видео.html&t= . I think you can also find editions of at least parts of the original Douay-Rheims for sale. Yes, here's the New Testament.
