@@pixel824 In the movie, at this exact moment, JD greets Veronica and instantly goes to sit in the corner of the cafeteria, where Martha is sitting too. Both of them are in the same table and get along so well that Martha gives him some childhood photos of her with Heather Duke. That way he blackmails her to be able to get all the signs in the school for the mega suicide note. I guess the only two people that were out of the chorus were JD and Martha.
I saw heathers and when the girl that played Ms. Fleming said "Steve, I'm ending our affair" she was staring at a guy in the audience and he looked shocked and put his hand on his chest dramatically. It was hilarious and I can't forget it now.
At "and Steve I'm ending our affair" I always like to imagine her pointing into the orchestra pit and a musician just throwing his hands up and shouting "Pauline!"
2:11-2:17 That is a really impressive slide right there! The transition was as close to perfect as you could get while still maintaining the same volume; not many trained vocalists can pull that off!
Am I the only one who thinks its hilarious that at this part of the play, the dark, damaged "weird trench coat kid" is actively participating in a school assembly, dancing and singing?
Kind of shows how it's just an empty message teachers present to students in order to show they're doing their jobs. Well, guess what? A class on suicide prevention won't prevent any suicide if you don't actually care about the students! Maybe actually listen when one of them has the courage to tell you everything that's wrong with the school?
Ok so maybe I'm reading waay too much into this, but as someone with depression this song really speaks to me about people who are like "why can't you just be happy?" Like there's a simple solution that will magically fix everything. Also the idea that some people can't listen to problems (kids killing themselves) without trying to make it about them (Miss Fleming telling the kids to say it to the cameras, making her the "saviour".) idk. To me it seems like Fleming only wanted them to talk about their problems so she could "shine a light." On herself.
@@MaysClan nice character analysis there, sport, but it's fiction and the character can be whatever they want it to be in their head, and its just as valid as your version of the character
this song is the greatest representation of people who want to help ppl with mental illnesses but have no idea how it works at all and just end up oversimplifying the issue and giving terrible advice
Ms. Fleming only cares about the principle of helping the teens. She doesn't really care about what they actually feel. This is pretty realistic to a lot of teachers (not all)
When I saw the musical and Ms. Fleming asked if anyone wanted to confess first, Heather Duke raised her hand, but Ms. Fleming ignored her. It was hilarious.
I know you all hate Ms Fleming (at least you see the AMAZING voice she has) but I just can't. I mean, she is not the best teacher out there but at least she does care a little bit (most teachers simply don't) and I also love this song. It maybe has a empty message in the musical, but out of context, I see it as a positive and BRIGHT song, and sometimes it's true that we hide our problems and maybe if we tell someone about it, we will get something good by having someone who cares and give us advice. Idk, just my thoughts.
I agree, at least she tried something. It was not effective, but still, it's better than doing nothing at all. Also, this song is so fun, even if it depicts an empty message, I love it.
just to let you guys know! if you go to see heathers UK, and you’re sat on the front row usually on the left end seat, you will be asked to stand up and share a secret, while every spotlight in the theatre is on you, including the one jd uses, as well as all of the cast members leaning over to you! my stepdad had this and it was the best thing ever!!

my favorite part about this song is how everyone else is as upbeat as her in it about this sharing feelings thing but none of them are doing it and she's the only one who shared anythign
I slightly hate Mrs. Fleming because she kinda romanticizes suicide and stuff like that. And she uses it to her advantage so she can get on TV when there are "suicides" at the school. At least, that's how I see it.
Elias Little Nah, you could tell in Me Inside of Me that she really wanted everyone to tLk about their feelings and be happier. and in this, she says that back in her past, she "tried to change the world and barely made a dent". She's trying it again, and she saw this suicide as an oppurtinity to help people
Elias Little Also, she says "i have struggled with despair". She's been through what the studentents are going through now. maybe this motivated her to change the world

1) The fact that even Miss Flemming got her own song, but Heather Duke didn't
2) This song literally irradiates toxic positivity. I love it

Is it weird that when this song came on I was like "yeah, my school would do this"
I think my favorite part of this is Fleming is so focused on saving the students that she totally missed the two students who were ACTUALLY suicidal
ebisawkward Wait, I know Heather M, but who’s the other kid?
Possibly JD or Martha?
Well, Heather Duke had an eating disorder that could have led to death so she could have been another option
