Broke my 5th finger metacarpal at the base(sheath) well I had a circular fracture that started at the base of the 5th finger metacarpal and the top of the metacarpal below the knuckle in INovember 2022 is now July 2023 and My pinky finger is very stiff at the distal phalange. I could bend my pinky and ring finger somewhat if I move my fingers for a minute or two to loosen them up but I think is problem with the tendon . I had some therapy but it only got more stiff and swollen every time I had therapy. I think my therapist was not any good 😢. I do have a very good orthopedic Dr . Just giving my fingers a chance. Also my ring finger overlap my pinky finger when I try making a fist. Scissors finger I think is called . I guess I had the brace on my hand too tight during healing period. My pinky is also crooked 😢 cannot make a fist yet

How long was the recovery for this patient until they could return to full activity without cast or splint? Was there casting post-op? If so, How long?

I know this comment is old but I just had this surgery done recently. Post op I was in a hard splint for two weeks from my knuckles to my elbow which kept my forearm and wrist immobile. I then had the stitches removed and am currently in a similar splint to the post op one for an additional 4 weeks. After the 4 weeks I go for a check up to see if I can start physical therapy

Hello doctor, My name is Victor Aguirre and I had a ECU Tendon Reconstruction of the sub-sheath on my left wrist by doctor Gary Chen In Los Angeles California. I wanted to ask you if limited range of motion flexing my wrist upwards was normal after this procedure? Also, my right thumb feel tight when I open my palm. Another thing i'll note is that something above my pinkie knuckle feels tight? Any comments of what this might be?

I cured my subluxation using conservative treatment. My orthopaedic
surgeon told me I needed surgery but the literature does say
immobalization will fix this issue unless you have the rare Type B
subsheath tear. I insisted to be put in a long arm, munster cast (this
enables elbow movement while restricting pronation and supination of the
wrist). Your wrist position in the cast must be in full pronation,
radial deviation and slight extension (it is very important to be in
this position or else it won't work). Do this for atleast 6 weeks.
My cast came off and my ecu tendon no long subluxated. My surgeon looked
annoyed that I proved her wrong haha
Your surgeon wants to do surgery. This is how they get paid the big
bucks. Insist on doing the cast for atleast 6-8 weeks.

jim rogers mine was the exact opposite, i went to her for the first time in November 2018 and tried everything but surgery (cast, therapy, cortisone shots, splints, etc.) but nothing was working so i got the surgery in June 2019. I kinda wish my surgeon offered surgery right away (she didn’t want to do it because then I would miss school, and since I’m only a teen she wanted to avoid surgery at all costs it it wasn’t needed.) I’m glad the cast worked for you, the recovery from the surgery has been a rough one, and am currently still recovering 6 months post op.
