- In Ancient Greece, after imprisoning the Titans beneath the ocean, the rulers of the Greek gods, Zeus and his wife Hera, have a son named Hercules on Mount Olympus. While the other gods are joyful, Zeus' jealous brother Hades plots to overthrow Zeus and rule Olympus. Turning to the Fates for help, Hades learns that in eighteen years, a planetary alignment will allow him to locate and free the Titans to conquer Olympus, but only if Hercules does not interfere. Hades sends his minions Pain and Panic to dispose of Hercules. The two succeed at kidnapping the infant and feeding him a formula that turns him mortal, but fail to remove his superhuman strength before Hercules is found and adopted by the farmers Amphitryon and Alcmene.
Years later, the teenage Hercules becomes an outcast due to his strength, and wonders where he came from. After his foster parents reveal the necklace they found him with, Hercules decides to visit the temple of Zeus for answers. The temple's statue of Zeus comes to life and reveals all to Hercules, telling him that he can regain his godhood by becoming a true hero. Zeus sends Hercules and his forgotten infant friend Pegasus to find the satyr Philoctetes-"Phil" for short-who is known for training heroes. They meet Phil, who has retired due to numerous disappointments, but Hercules inspires him to follow his dream to train a true hero that will be recognized by the gods. Phil trains Hercules into a potential hero, and then they headed towards Thebes. On the way, they meet Megara-"Meg" for short-a sarcastic damsel whom Hercules saves from the centaur Nessus. After Hercules and the others leave, Meg is revealed to be Hades' minion, who sold her soul to him to save an unfaithful lover.
Arriving in Thebes, Hercules is turned down by the downtrodden citizens until Meg appears, saying that two boys have become trapped in a gorge. Hercules saves them, unaware that they are Pain and Panic in disguise, and unwittingly releases the Hydra. Hercules defeats it and becomes a celebrated hero, but despite Hercules' growing fame and defeating every subsequent monster Hades unleashes, Zeus tells him he is not yet a "true" hero. Saddened and frustrated, Hercules spends a day out with Meg, who falls in love with him. Hades learns of this and on the eve of his takeover, he holds Meg hostage and offers her in exchange for Hercules surrendering his powers for a day. On the condition that Meg will be unharmed, he accepts, and is heartbroken when Hades reveals that Meg was working for him.
Hades unleashes the Titans, who climb Olympus and capture the gods, while a Cyclops goes to Thebes to kill Hercules. Hercules defeats the cyclops; Meg then saves him from a falling pillar and is mortally injured. This breaks Hades' promise that Meg would not be harmed, and allows Hercules to regain his strength. Hercules and Pegasus fly to Olympus where they free the gods and vanquish the Titans, but Meg dies before he returns to her.
With Meg's soul now Hades' property, Hercules breaks into the Underworld and offers to free Meg from the Styx in exchange for his own life. His willingness to sacrifice himself restores his godhood and immortality before the life-draining river can kill him; he rescues Meg and punches Hades into the Styx, where irate souls pull him under. After reviving Meg, she and Hercules are summoned to Olympus, where Zeus and Hera welcome their son home. However, Hercules chooses to remain on Earth with Meg in lieu of living on Olympus. Hercules and his friends return to Thebes, where they watch Zeus etch Hercules' image into the stars to commemorate his heroism.

I got a bit choked up when Phil finally saw and heard what he spent his whole life hoping for. A hero he trained written in the stars, and the people saying, "Hey! Thats Phil's boy!" He was so happy for that brief moment.
And best that it was said by the one who laughed at Phil 😊
Yeah. I’m feeling that
Plus he got a tasty flower.
What about Perseus?
"That's Phil's boy" gets me every time. Geez

Fun fact: In the actual Greek mythology Hades was not evil, he was actually one of the nicer gods of Olympus. The only one who ever had a beef with Hades was Demeter because Hades kidnapped her daughter Persephone so she'd be his bride. Zeus on the other hand killed and raped billions. Hades wasn't laid-back and hedonistic like he's shown here, he was always very glum, miserable, and barely said a word.
Zues on mythology was actually a dick and honestly only ever cared about athena, herculese, and ares
This version of Hades is in Lore Olympus (on Webtoon).
Hera on the other hand poisoned Hercules's mind. Making him kill his own family.
Can’t say I’m mad they changed it. Love this movie
Having read Greek Mythology, I agree with everything here except when you used "billions."
In the real legend of Hercules Hera actually was the villain, not Hades. Zeus went to Earth and disguised himself as Alcmene's husband and slept with her and that's how Hercules was born. He was a demigod-- mortal but with some God powers. His Greek name was actually Heracles, named after Hera while Hercules is his Roman name. Hera was absolutely outraged that he was conceived out of wedlock so she sent two snakes to kill him when he was born but Hercules killed the snakes with his Incredible strength. All the way into his adulthood she drove him insane until he reached a Breaking Point and murdered his wife Megara and their sons, completely unaware of what he was doing. He was horrified about what he had done and that's what set him about on his quest to become a god and also to redeem himself.
Didnt he just end up dying anyway cuz heras a fricking b**ch in mythology. But kind of for good reason. Zues literally slept around with nearly every goddess and slept with a lot of mortals to. Hera honestly only has I think 2 children from zues?
I'd say Zeus was also a villain. He raped and slept away like no tomorrow. He is the father of so many children whose mother is not Hera...Dionysus is another example.
@@bangtansugakookies1550 In Greek Mythology, say you're a child of Zeus basically gets, "Okay, and...," as a response.
@@zikonrokarminrot636 Hera anonymously gave him some sort of coat that she actually coated the inside with poison. Hercules told the wife he had then to just prepare a funeral pyre for him, he was dying very slowly and when his body was set ablaze he finally died. Zeus found his spirit and remade him a God, the God of heroes and he joined Zeus on Olympus.
@@bangtansugakookies1550 That's WHY I love the game God of War because even with inconsestencies Kratos another born child of Zues set out to murder him and achieved it.
Zeus needs to drop his chest day routine
😂😂he need to be telling the other gods to workout because they looking like they eating too good
Just like Simba and Hercules are the best heroes there are. 🙂
This was a major turning point for Hercules. He waited years to have his dream granted on being a God & returning to Mount Olympus. If you look very carefully when him & Meg first arrive, Hercules eagerly left her & was on the very brink on being back amongst the other gods again.
And had it not been for him looking around seeing Meg walk away, Hercules would had lost the love of his life as he very nearly forgotten about her.
It was that one moment where Hercules was in a catch 22 situation. He could had been a god again but miss out on Meg or be mortal & be with Meg meaning he couldn't return to Olympus.
And Hercules knew that being a god can never replace the love he had for Meg.
2:29 that's his real momma and his real papa! No matter where he came from!

@noahmizen7001 right? Eros did it for Psyche so why couldn't Herc do t for Meg?
While Disney's Hercules may not be the most accurate version of the Actual Hercules, it's still an excellent Disney Movie, nonetheless. Plus, throw in The Animated Series and you've got a great Disney Character.
Also, the Disney Version of Hercules, unlike the Actual Hercules, is allowed to have a happy ending and two parents that care about him. One are Mortals and the other are Gods.
Ye. I’m a huge mythology fan and this is one of my favorite Disney movies EVER. Imo as long as you can make it entertaining I’m ok.
Great movie. Back when Disney was awesome. Good times.

To those saying: Zeus and Heras were villains, well so was Heracles, kind of. He could be a dick sometimes according to legends
I mean, can you blame him? Hera, being the spiteful bitch she was, hated Herakles. As she hated all of Zeus's bastards. She basically hit him with a magical rage whammy, making him kill his family while he was out of his mind. And then, THEN the gods made him perform his twelve labors as PENANCE for Hera literally driving him insane. He wasn't perfect, but damn, I'd be a salty bitch too after that.
I can't even think of a single instance where he was a dick in his legends. I remember he was Hera's victim

Disney is not really Disney without 2d animation !
Nope.
The rest of the movie makes me sad and feel good
I was stuck on Hercules, purple cloak, and Zeus‘ purple toga or whatever they wear and after Hercules chooses a mortal life with Meg his cloak turns blue, and is no longer purple. Interesting that they used tyrenian purple.
When Zeus says, “Now at last… my son… you can come home!” And the gates open and the victory music comes in, it makes me think about how entering Heaven will be when Jesus says, “Well done… good and faithful servant… you have been faithful over a few things. Now I will make you ruler over many things… enter… into the joy of your Lord!”

KIDS 🥳 LOVE DISNEY 🎵 MOVIE 🎥
Couldn't they have just made Meg a God too that way everybody's happy? Hercules finally gets to come home and Meg becomes a God so Hercules gets to be with her too. Hercules deciding to stay with Meg on Earth after working to be a true hero the entire film to return home just made it all for nothing.
No they made it accurate to the myth: Meg is Herakles’ first wife whom he slays along with their children in a fit of madness sent to him by Hera. His wife in Olympus has a different name and they have two children
Exactly, I think it's a waste and shame they didn't make Meg a goddess. Hercules dreamt of returning up Olympus plus be with his beloved forever. Meg could have become a goddess. But because she's a mortal, Hercules chose to be mortal too which made all his efforts to return to Olympus a total waste.
now where is kratos
I don’t think he exists in this demention, either that or him killing all of them hasn’t happened yet.
Wait until Kratos finds this universes Greek gods….
