I was teaching Wood Carving class in June of 2021.
One of the most beautiful places on the map of the United States, Camden Maine.

It reminded me a lot of my Mother-Land Russia; the Same birch tree all over. Same Flowers, same hills. Online School is very good for learning A LOT of woodcarving skills but in person it is like supernatural anointing happening.
It is is like in old times:
apprentices would learn the trade by watching Master and imitating them as closely as possible. They learned through endless repetition and hands-on work, with very little verbal instruction.
WELL: Not in my case. I have a tendency to give a LOT of woodcarving-related verbal instructions.
(the word “apprentice” itself comes from the Latin prehendere, meaning to grasp with the hand).
It is a different type of experience if You would Compare it to an Online wood carving school.
It was 5 days woodcarving workshop and the way I teach. I like to talk first about Design.
When someone takes a woodcarving class with me I want them to understand my logic.
I want to make sure everyone understands WHY we carve the way we carve. Design is one of the fundamental building blocks of woodcarving art.
Understanding the process of sharpening without sacrificing your wood carving tools is also crucial.
And for me, it is important that the sharpening process does not take hours of labor. I am showing a two-minute method of sharpening wood carving tools.
